Why am I Renouncing My JW Faith...Part 2
by tjlibre ini left off on my first posts on this topic with this sentence: one of the big discoveries and the genesis of my semi-apostate ways came one day when i decided to look up some of the books cited in the reasoning from the scriptures book (almost 99% of the works cited by the society were available at the universitys library).
the research that was meant to solidify my faith in the jw religion, actually made the first crack on the foundation of my faith.. .

ok roll up your sleeves and get stuck into this one! ( you will love this!)
by highdose incame accross this website, clearly set up by a jw .
it firmly states that the bible over wheamlingly supports 607 not any other date at all!
and that if any other date eg 587 were to be used, it would make a mockery of the whole bible!.

Common JW Response to Apostates
by KingDavidwasframed inone of the things i hear from jws and even my mother is "if being a jw is so bad, where else would we go?
" or along the same line, but different wording "i know the society isn't perfect, but where else do they teach about jehovah?".
so i got to thinking last night, is there really a fds?

a group (not organization - but group) that is unified, Bible based and not wakko?
In my experience, No. Once you get an organized religion, it becomes wakko.
Maybe CTR had a good idea with that non-centralized Bible Students things he first tried out.
Frankly, though, WHY do you need to GO somewhere? If God speaks to anyone, why not YOU?

Odd CO talk...ever hear anything like this?
by sir82 inhad our co visit last month.
normally the guy has all the charisma and charm of ben stein from "ferris buhler's day off", but he managed to give a talk that was actually coherent one night.. here is the rough outline:.
the theme was about the difference between "justice", "mercy", and "undeserved kindness".. situation 1: adam and eve sinned.

Undeserved kindness (grace) is what caused Jehovah to let man continue to live - so that his works might prove him worthy of salvation.
So, I'm with Changeling - sounds the same to what I was taught.
And, yes, Satanus - it had bothered me since I was very young that, on the one hand, there is this "undeserved kindness" arrangment that lets man redeem himself through works (and this includes-pre-Birth of Christ man), and then on the other hand there's this "God had to kill Jesus to balance the fall of Adam" (redeem perfect life with perfect life) thing.
You don't need one with the other. They don't mesh. It's like the first part deals with how man is supposed to achieve salvation, but the second part only deals with why Jesus had to die? What kind of arbitrary, limited being is this Jehovah character?
As far as the Justice versus Mercy thing - yes, I recall that kind of language from the 60's. Seemed that God could not be Just and Merciful, since Justice always demands some extreme form of punushment leaving no room for Mercy, and Mercy was just another way of saying "I'll punish you later."

Any interest in helping write a movie script?
by cab1000 ini am not a writer, but i thought it would be fun to write a movie script in which the plot is that the jw's had it right.
it would follow a family or two currently living as faithful witnesses, a family that is not faithful, and worldly people.
the story would then progress into the great tribulation, and then armageddon, and then the paradise.

Headline: UN bans all religions except Jehovah's Witnesses. Dissolve:
Happy Witness Family out in field service at a door; the son, Jimmy, speaking to Householder: "We invite you to come to the Kingdom Hall for True Worship! It's illegal to pray anywhere else, now that Jehovah has destroyed all false religion." Cut to:
Kingdom Hall, surrounded by police cars holding back an angry mob. One by one, ghostly figures clothed in light materialize. They fade, leaving bearded men in Toga-like garments, resurrected righteous men of old, the Princes. Pan up to:
A ghostly apparition appears, it's Jesus Christ and a horde of angels flying through the heavens. Light shines off his gigantic sword; cut to:
Flame comes from the sky toasting 6,000,000,000 people, but miraculously leaving 6,000,000 (most of these in US and Mexico). Everything man-made is a charred mess, stinking bodies covering the landscape. Dissolve:
Jesus sitting on a thrown in heavenly Kingdom Hall. Track through the open doors to a parking lot filled with 144,000 people, though this number fluctuates as they fly up and down to Earth. There is a variety of clothing from periods throughout history. They are all shuffling reports in and out of the Hall. Snatches of conversation:
"Looking for more Mens Wearhouse suits..."
"Yes, cannabilism seems yucky, but there's nothing in the Bible comdeming it, and there's precious little seed..."
"There were no guarantees of lion pets - now tell him it's either bury bodies or till soil..."
"Of course they weren't resurrected, none of the Prince's wives were prophets of YHWH, were they?"
Rapid cuts to various scenes of birds of prey eating eyeballs out of blackened sockets, burial details, families crying over lost loved ones; sntaches of conversation:
"If only he had repented yesterday - he told me he'd start coming back to the meetings next week..."
"I'm so glad you were reinstated..."
"I guess my DA letter didn't make it..."
"You should have forced him to get baptised!"
Slow fade through this to:
Happy Witness Family, Jimmy all growed up. Jimmy (to Dad): "Wow, this thousand years has been rough. But at least we got all the bodies buried (the ones we didn't have to eat), and have the farms going. Maybe God will help us get electricity after the trial!"
Dad: "I still wonder why the 144,000 didn't have more actual administrators or managers among them. Oh, remember, eveyone, tomorrow is the FInal Judgment of those resurrected, and then Satan comes back for a short while." Cut to:
Fast cuts: Princes, 144,000, angels appear before groups of people in rough clothing with pronouncements of falling short of God's will. Some are killed by blinding flames that miraculously appear, others by Other Sheep as directed by the judges. Freeze frame and dissolve to:
Satan emerging from the Abyss. Satan: "Here we go again..."
Fast cuts through an indeifinite number of years that look surprisingly like the last 6,000 years of human history. Long dissolve to:
Happy Witness Family out in field service at a door; the son, Jimmy, speaking to Householder: "We invite you to come to the Kingdom Hall for True Worship! It's illegal to pray anywhere else, now that Jehovah has destroyed all false religion." Cut to:
Hppay Witness Family at home. Jimmy: "Wow, 6,000 years of preaching and teaching. I wonder if it'll take another 1,000 years to clean up this last destruction? Will we finally get to have lions for pets?"
Dad: "Well, at least we now only have perfect people on Earth! Remember, tomorrow is the first day of the rest of eternal farming!"

The increasing number of the anointed. Comments, anyone?
by dgp ini'm very much enjoying "the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses", by heather and gary botting.
now, this excerpt comes very much to the point of this thread, i believe:.
page 145: "still, in 1975 the society clearly feared a continuation of the upward trend in memorial partakers, and in an article entitled "annointing to a heavenly hope - how is it manifest?

I wasn't in Africa, though I was "in" through the 70's.
It was a strange push-pull sort of thing - how the Anointed were built up in the minds of the R/F, yet when someone dared to say they were of the Anointed and partook - well, the powers that be would mutter and shake their heads and be full of discontent and pessimism.

Some do see alternate universes as being made up of different constrained groupings of dimensions, our own universe being confined to a brane of three dimensions with other universes existing on other branes; it's not clear if these constricted dimensions are the same three, merely on another brane, or a different three, or some combination (in other words, it's not clear if what makes our universe distinct from another is the dimensions we use or the brane they're constrained upon).

Circuit Overseer said from platform ,if you have ever done something and not confessed to Elders...going to die!!
by Lady Liberty injust had lunch with a inactive jw friend of mine who is well on her way out.
she said that when the she went to the kingdom hall the week of the circuit overseers visit, he said from the platform, that if anyone had done any wrong doing in the past, no matter how long ago, and had never come forward to tell the elders, then they would not make it into the new system, but would rather die at armegedon!!.
i guess after that talk the elders were inindated and they began privately, and publically reproving, and removing ones!!

Disgusting.
Sounds rather like another religion, one that the WTS has condemned time and again, oh, yeah, the Catholic Church, with their need to have a priest intercede for forgiveness.

I think you may find that "values" vary widely among the individual Witnesses.
I pray you may find that your own values do not include theirs - such as shunning when someone leaves, or covering up the criminal acts some of the perform in order to keep their reputation clean.
May you find peace.
