New to this site....
by TanCatLuvr ini am so thrilled to find this forum.
it is such a relief to know that all of us 'apostates' are normal people who had the nerve to question what has been crammed down our throats.. i am 4th generation ex-jw with family members at bethel, doing missionary work, and pioneering.
even though i have been out for almost 20+ years, i still had guilt admitting to myself that this was a cult-like organization until just recently.

How many of you were baptised at a young age?
by lepermessiah inone thing this site has made me reflect on the baptism practice in jw land.. many of us were raised in the religion, thus you were given the pressure early on to shoot for baptism as a goal.. i remember feeling bad because i waited until the ripe old age of 14 to take the plunge.. looking back, i realize that when i was 14, i didnt even know what my favorite color was, let alone have enough knowledge to make a life altering decision.
yet, growing up in that climate, i would say anyone who waited past their early teens to get baptised was viewed with great suspicion and was likely to be viewed as "bad association".
kids who took the dip at 8-9 years of age were viewed as "wise beyond their years" and the like.. how old were some of you when you were baptised, and what are your feelings on the matter?.

I was 9. Didn't even realize that I was committing myself to God until I heard The Questions asked just before baptism.
To me, it was just another rule to follow - Get Baptized.

Death ... friend or enemy?
by The Berean inwithout a life expectancy, would mankind stagnate?
what incentive would there be to stay busy, set goals, desire a mate and children, or care for others who would never be in harms way?
why would we do anything today if we always had a tomorrow?could it be that death is natures prod and a necessary motivator of life and should be thus celebrated?.

It's always a matter of context and timing. If things were different, they wouldn't be the same - of that we can be sure.

Tim Kilgore vs. E-Watchman Is Wicked Gay...
by Tuesday inhey there folks, another one of my attention getting titles.
i liked the charity videos but i think the most commented on video of mine is the one regarding homosexuality in nature.
e-watchman made a video response to the video which fell right into one of the stereotype answers i've gotten a hundred times on the video.

How do you know when someone has given something to you?
by Elsewhere ini have come upon a situation in which i am a bit confused.
if someone drops a phone book on your front porch.
has the previous owner transferred ownership to you?.

In the absence of law or contract, abandoned property can be considered a gift under most circumstances, when the owner is not obvious, the property is delivered in a lawful manner, and there is no fraud on your part. There are exceptions, for example anything mailed to your home absent your request is considered a gift (in the US).
Car boots are covered under law, describing their use and ownership. They are not considered abandoned when used within the confines of law.
Vehicles and other property that typically has a registered owner must go through a legal process or registration for ownership to change (in general).
When damaging property that is not your own, you can be sued in civil court where guilt is assessed based on a preponderance of the evidence.

While You Were A JW Did You Feel Controlled?
by minimus inthe governing body constantly tries to impose its will on jehovah's witnesses.
they really don't want you to do anything but society approved things.
everything is "bad".. we can see this quite clearly at this point.

I was emotionally stunted (and may still be to some extent).
I didn't feel controlled, I just followed the rules. I didn't feel much of anything at all until I was 30 years old.

^ A lot of words for the WTS to say, "Yeah, you caught us in a contradiction, but we still say the Great Crowd can't get into Heaven."

If I Had Intelligently Designed Man...
by VoidEater in...i'd leave out stuff that serves no purpose - like the appendix and coccyx.. ...i'd make the testicles internal so all those baseballs in the groin didn't hurt so much.. ...i'd add a third hand and eyes in the back of the head.. .

Black and White Thinking: the ENEMY of Intelligent Thought
by Terry insomething is true if it matches reality.. a true statement cannot contradict reality.. but, the mind can interpret anything into its opposite.
all it takes is black and white thinking and a belief things should be otherwise.. if jeffrey dahmer's mother thought he was a good son, then, he could not possibly be the guy who is eating people.. if o.j.simpson was a fine, upstanding fella with a great personality, then, he couldn't possibly have brutally murdered two people with a large serrated knife.
a ton of proof means nothing when belief is everything.. black and white thinking won't permit any facts to slip by the core belief and become refuted.. are you guilty of black and white thinking?.

WHEN was the last time you were wrong.....and CHANGED your opinion, belief or actions???
Lilith's soul probably was split and a portion of it resided in Evangelion Unit 00. But that's really another board.
If you did not posess this certitude you would be so overcome with fear...
Nope. Certitude is an *illusion* of security. Without certitude I just have *interest*.
In the face of belief, truth hasn't a chance. Being certain is the enemy of life.
