It tends to make me take certain apologists to task...and, answers the question "why I don't attend meetings".

As everyone around here knows I was abused until 12 years old by an elder, who also prostituted me to others.
He preferred girls, he abused his own children, his "problem" was (I am told) well-known but ignored - there were no second witnesses beyond his immediate family who were terrified of, and dependent upon, him.

Seeking Clarification About Ray
by Cthulhu ini do not wish to belabor the subject, but i am a smidge confussed.
i understand that his chances do not look good and everyone seems in agreement as to his condition but...has ray actually died?
i ask because the last i heard was that support was soon to be removed, but wikipedia lists his date of death as today.

(((RIP)))
Ray's writing in the Aid Book, when I was still a brainwashed kid, gave me great consolation. Even his tone of voice comforted me. CofC was like a long held "Amen."

Don't quit Zoloft cold turkey. Reduce dosage over a period of months.
Don't do any psychoactive without concurrent therapy. Meds should be an adjunct to getting better, not just a cover for the symptoms.
That's my unsolicited advice quota for the day.

A Question About Paradise Earth?
by sacolton inwe've all seen illustrations of jehovah's happy people living in a utopia lifestyle sharing baskets of fruit, wearing preppy clothing and everyone has a pet grizzly bear or shark, but what about natural disasters?
earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, flash floods, hail, lightning, blizzards, etc are just going to cease to exist?
everyday will be a beautiful 76 degrees with a calm cool breeze from the north?
-

Since all natural disasters are actually God punishing us, clearly Jehovah will be in a better mood once he kills of 99.9% of the population.

A better way of doing it, with regards to the 'God' question. If you're a theist or deist, please answer this question.
by Psychotic Parrot inwhy are you a theist or a deist?
please give any or all reasons why without resorting to a god of the gaps argument.
that is the only condition i am making, since in my (& presumably every other atheist's) opinion, a god of the gaps argument simply isn't convincing enough to demonstrate that there is a god, only that there might be a god.. thank you.. p.s.

who are insisting to me
So this thread is along the lines of "put up or shut up"...I get it...there are great squidges of this kind of thread in existence here...perhaps I'm just too old, it's pretty much a given that there are no evidential arguments.
Such as?
I don't know that they are "beliefs", but rather "placeholders", in my case. Google "non-theistic spirituality", or look into Zen, or maybe Native American religions (which would be rather pantheistic for you for the most part, I would hazard). Yes, there'sll be a bunch of New Age stuff to wade through.
But we here even on this board are not nearly so monolithic as one might expect - we don't digress because of a lack, we digress because of the individual nature of humanity. You might be more satisfied if you looked outside the Judeo-Christian motif, once you've exhausted this current line.
As far as I can see, Burns gave you the best answer. Everything else reduces to that, n'est pas?
For me, spirituality is the antithesis of analytical thought - not that it's contradictory, but that it's just a different context. It doesn't take place in the world of thought, it is accessed through a felt sense (experientially). It's just silly to try to prove it in the external world, since it doesn't exist there (if it exists at all).
I know that's not what your asking for, but I'm certainly not going to assert something I don't believe in!
Be happy -VE
