WTS response to 9/11
by Robert7 ini'm sure this has been discussed in length, but i'm a newbie :).
one item that really shocked me, back when i believed this was 'the truth' was the lack of response to the 9/11 attacks.
as all of us, we were really shocked and really were looking for comfort at the meeting (school/service meeting).

The WTS response to 9/11 was a big reason why I began to fade as well. Our TMS/SM meeting was that day, and I remember wanting to skip the meeting™ and watch the coverage on TV (worked all day, didn't really get to see the events unfold live like most people). My FIL called us and pretty much chastised my wife for even thinking of skipping the meeting, especially when I had sound panel responsibilities™. The only mention of it at the meeting was during the closing prayer, when they asked for Jehovah to be with the "brothers and sisters™ who were affecting by the events of the day." How cold and heartless!
I also heard the same stories from Bethel™, how people were forced into continuing the structure of their day, with no thoughts or concerns about what was occurring just across the river. One Bethelite™ mentioned to a friend of mine that he was extremely scarred by what was going on, and they didn't give a s**t. It was about printing more magazines! Then to hear they didn't let worldly™ people in for relief who had to flee Manhattan!!
Can you tell this is one item that just infuriates me to no end about this organization!!!

Let's see what the official 'elder handbook', "Pay Attention to Yourselves and to All The Flock" pg 138-9 has to say about the matter, shall we
If a person approaching baptism is an
illegal alien, heshould be urged to do what he can to rectify his status
with regard to the law of the land .
(w77 3/15 pp. 191-2)The Christian congregation today follows a course harmonious
with the Biblical pattern of the apostle's dealing
with the case of Onesimus . (Philem .
8-22)Overseers are not to police the lives of the brothers,
nor are they obligated to become acquainted with
all the details of civil and criminal law so as to
enforce these . Just as they do not check to see if
someone's home meets every detail of the building
code, they do not investigate in order to determine
whether a person has satisfied every detail as to his
legal situation in the country before allowing him
to get baptized or to continue in the congregation .
Baptism would not be denied such a person, but he
would not be viewed as exemplary and would not be
used in any responsible position in the congregation .
The same would apply to a person who uses fraudulent
or illegal identification .
A brother who has notified the authorities of his illegal
status and filed papers to resolve his situation would not
be restricted as to representing the congregation in
prayer, sharing in teaching, or being appointed as a
pioneer, a ministerial servant, or an elder if otherwise
qualified .
Such privileges may be extended even though the
authorities do not act promptly on his request for
permission to remain in the country. He is no
longer a fugitive .

A JW's Reaction to the Colorado Church Shootings
by fattire5010 injust to show you the mindset of the typical jw.
i was talking with my mother-in-law who lives only 15 miles from one of the colorado churches where the shootings took place yesterday.
when i expressed my sympathies for the victims and the community, she basically said in a cold-hearted, remorseless way; what do you expect for babylon the great, especially in a church where the priest is a sexual deviant!.

She must have forgotten the non-jw husband who went to the KH and shot at the elder who had slept with this man's wife and at his wife. It made the news when it happened.
Exactly...had the same thing occured at a KH, my God it would have been the worst tragedy ever. But because it happened in a church of Christendom™, big deal, who cares.
And you're right Steve, I'm sure many JW's felt bad about what happened. It just sucks that many of them are so self-righteous and hard-hearted that any tragedy involving other God-fearing religions isn't a big deal. It only is a big deal to them when it affects the small circle of the JW world.

Just to show you the mindset of the typical JW. I was talking with my mother-in-law who lives only 15 miles from one of the Colorado churches where the shootings took place yesterday. When I expressed my sympathies for the victims and the community, she basically said in a cold-hearted, remorseless way; “What do you expect for Babylon the Great, especially in a church where the priest is a sexual deviant!”
I just couldn’t believe the lack of humanly affection. I was so angered, I proceeded to remind her of the sexual deviancy in their own faith and the recent coverage on NBC Nightly News about the pedophilia cover-up. She of course, in a smart-ass way, stated those media reports are all lies fabricated from Satan’s system of things™.
I want to thank everyone here for exposing the TRUTH about “the truth™” and the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society INCORPORATED. As a former goodie-goodies MS™ who gave several public talks™, I’ve been lurking for sometime, and appreciate JWD and my family for helping to get me closer to telling the WT to eff off. This sham needs to be stopped!

Beards and dress clothes...
by B_Deserter ini often wonder about the unwritten rule in kingdom halls that a witness should be in dress clothes and brothers cannot have beards (the beard rule i think is pretty much us-only though).
sure, they won't stop you from coming to a meeting in your work clothes and they might even treat you fine.
but, if you want to go anywhere in the congregation (i.e.

I think if Jesus came back right now and examined the organisation using his Father's name, He would be disgusted as he was with the Scribes and Pharasees. All those thousands of rules that burden the people - rules that come from man not God.
This statement hits the nail on the head! The TRUTH about "the truth (TM)".
How I would love to shove this comment in the face of the next hounder who tries to corner me at my place of employment.

JW Stance on GLOBAL WARMING
by nomoreguilt inas you can see, i haven't been on the board long.
so, i don't know if this has ever been discussed.
so, for my own information i would like to know where and how they stand, wt art.

fattire5010
My JW mother-in-law reminds us all the time about global warming, and how 'man is bringing Earth to a ruin' and God will step in "any day now"...in fact, a bunch in her old congo got together and watched Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" to prove that the end is near.
She thinks that such fear will stop our fade....
