twenty minutes ago, there were two large explosions in dayton, ohio.
they were strong enough to vibrate my house.
the local news reported that a plane struck the veterans administration building about 5 miles from my house.

i feel pretty sure about this, that the planes were just a diversion set to allow emergency vehicles easy access to the basement parking lot.
eye witnesses placed a large explosion just before the south building came down.
one thing is sure, the buildings did not come down as a result of the planes hitting them or any explosions due to that.
Here is a site about how tall buildings implode:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/building-implosion.htm
It includes several video clips of tall building demolitions.
I also found this description of the structural engineering of the WTC towers:
Yamasaki and engineers John Skilling and Les Robertson worked closely, and the relationship between the towers’ design and structure is clear. Faced with the difficulties of building to unprecedented heights, the engineers employed an innovative structural model: a rigid "hollow tube" of closely spaced steel columns with floor trusses extending across to a central core. The columns, finished with a silver-colored aluminum alloy, were 18 3/4" wide and set only 22" apart, making the towers appear from afar to have no windows at all. Also unique to the engineering design were its core and elevator system. The twin towers were the first supertall buildings designed without any masonry. Worried that the intense air pressure created by the buildings’ high speed elevators might buckle conventional shafts, engineers designed a solution using a drywall system fixed to the reinforced steel core.
[Edited to include the following:]
You might also want to look at this site:
http://www.howstuffworks.com/skyscraper.htm
The two towers in New York's 1,360-foot (415-meter) World Trade Center were built with a sturdy steel truss at their core. This structure was built only to hold the building up under likely circumstances -- it could not sustain the massive blow of an airplane crash.

i was happy when the yadrif was given the boot - we never needed the spread of hatred and name calling.
it seemed as though everyone felt the same way.. i find it hypocritical that as long as you are "influential in the xjw community" or if you run a big anti-jw website you can call anyone names and you can post any obscene drivel as long as it is a song which you dedicate other posters.. i find it ironic that a "well-respected" poster (and i could give a damn what his past actions or brave deeds are, or what fancy essays he wrote) would call me a biggot in chat for asking simple questions but then he would defend the stuff kent wrote in reference to aguest.
i don't give a damn if it was written by frank zappa or some other crack-smokin' loser - the fact that they are song lyrics is irrelevant.
Teejay,
Yes, I support him in the sense of offering help, comfort, and understanding. I do not support him in the sense of being in favor of or upholding everything he does.
Kent is my friend. That does not mean that I always approve of his behavior. Nor does he always approve of mine.

Teejay,
You have a right to form your own opinion of Kent. I cannot argue with that.
However, in the case of Shelby/AGuest, I have neither defended him nor excused him. If you think that I have, I ask that you point out where I have done so. Like anyone else, Kent will have to accept the consequences of his behavior.

my mom's cousin sharon passed away at 1:30pm thursday september 6, 2001. she was a lovely person and was always more like a sister than a cousin.
mulan held her hand every step of the way through a battle with breast cancer and she was with her when she died.. mom's birthday is tomorrow.
now she will celebrate sharon's life along with her own every year at this time.. i wish there was some way to ease your pain mom.
Princess and Mulan,
I hope that your memories and knowing that we care will give you comfort and ease the sorrow.

good. any chance of you helping out your norwegian friend?
I have several Norwegian friends. Do you mean Kent?
If so, I do my best to help Kent, just as he has helped me learn many good lessons. I don't expect that you will have the same tolerance for him that I do.
Have you ever played The Sims? In that game, when each person interacts, the game rates the encounter and shows you a running tally. A character you dislike might be a -20%. A good friend might be a +100%. Each encounter affects this balance.
Kent and I have known each other for a long time. I've had many good encounters with him. I myself would not have posted that song. My esteem for Kent was lowered when he did so. Still, for me, the positive encounters outweigh the negative ones. That's how our friendship stands at the moment.
After he did it, I asked him about it in the thread. Why did he do it? What did he hope to accomplish? He didn't answer.
I wrote to him privately, and he explained. I am satisfied with his answer and accept it.
I truly do believe that if someone offends you, the adult thing to do is to approach that person directly, explain how his/her behavior offended you, and discuss the matter. If Kent has offended you, I suggest you contact him directly.
Kent is Kent; I am me. I cannot control Kent's behavior any more than you can control Bigboi's. I can only do my best to be a good influence.

I've learned my lesson on Simon's board, Teejay.
From now on I will smile when I imply that I would like to stone someone, and I'll be sure I don't use any crass language as I cast that first big rock.

dear all,.
it is with much regret that i have decided to leave jw.com.
it is not a decision i have made lightly, in fact i had been thinking about it for many weeks now.. i am leaving because i cannot be a part of a forum that condones abuse and deliberate offensiveness towards other posters.
Hi, Prisca,
I was a bit surprised to read this:
I am leaving because I cannot be a part of a forum that condones abuse and deliberate offensiveness towards other posters. I am disappointed in the way Simon has let this place degenerate over the past 6 months. But it's his forum, and I am under no obligation to be a part of it.
I saw that you recently brought up the matter of abusive posters in the Suggestion Box forum, and Simon answered:
I do agree, I will try and imrove things if you can bear with me.I'm sorry I haven't been around this last week to keep a closer eye on things - I've just been incredibly busy.
I thought you'd at least wait around for the latest flashes of new light from Simon.
Speaking of flashes, if you leave, who will show her panties at Larc's Sunday School?

mst, duane floyd checketts, 77 died in his sleep due to complications from pneumonia.
he is survived by his wife bette and two children, douglas checketts, patty smith, and 8 grandchildren.. duane, who was fondly called duke by everyone who knew him was born in farmington, utah on march 8, 1924. his father floyd, was one of 10 children raised in a tiny house built by his own mormon father who immigrated in the early 1860's from birmingham, england.
Doug,
Thank you for sharing this.
I'm sorry you must endure a JW funeral that will likely irritate rather than offering you comfort.
Reading your eulogy, I am reminded of what is important in life. Each of us want to touch the lives of other in a good way. We want to love and be loved. We want to be missed after we're gone.
I also thought of a book by Stephen Levine I read recently called A Year to Live: How to Live This Year as If It Were Your Last. By denying death, many people deny life. They put off many parts of their life for "later" and live a life of compromise and unfulfilled dreams. Sadly, religions prey on this tendency. Much of our lives are on hold while we are waiting for paradise, waiting for heaven, waiting for Godot. Given just a year to live, many people would live very differently. His book encourages people to live each moment, each hour, each day mindfully--as if it were all that was left.
Perhaps you could have your own private memorial service for your father and play "Estrelita"? I wish I could hear it.
