  Memories of Duncan - Part 1

  it was a surprise and delight for me to find duncan posting to this board.. our relationship goes back further than either of us would care to admit, right back to the days that were.. we both attended one of the most respected schools in our english town.

  a school which produced reams of achievers like a combine-harvester of the soul.

  it sowed the embryonic seeds of a major uk politician, world class musicians, in the classics and out, and a particularly amusing mimic who went on to write comedy scripts for some of the uks most popular shows.. i was not a jw at the time.

  "Jerico"...NOT a myth.

  many on this board claim the account of jerico in the bible epitomizes a mean, murderous god, who killed women and babies.

  unjustly.

  also, they claim the whole account is bogus.

  Phone Call From My Mother!

  the last time i spoke with my mom was the middle of october.

  i called her that time.. many of you are familiar with the relationship problems ive had with my parents since i quit going to meetings almost a year ago.

  for those of you who arent familiar with the situation, you can do a search by clicking on the paper icon under my name to read up on whats been going on.. anyway things were getting worse and worse and nothing good was coming from our discussions or letters.. since i was the one who called her last, i decided to see how long it would take for my parents to get a hold of me the next time.. my mom even told me in the past that she wanted to limit her association with me.

  Only the anonymous translators of The New World Translation know their intentions and motives, so it is difficult to say whether their questionable translations and interpretrations were deliberately distorted or dishonest.

  Contrarian Ideas

  maybe it is because i am left handed, first born and received contrarian ideas during my education, but i see some things differently than many here.. 1. jws a cult: i don't think they are a cult.

  i think they are a high control sect.. 2. brain washing: i don't believe that jws are brain washed.

  i think they are indoctrinated if they came in as adults, and i think they were enculcated and enculturated, if they were raised in it.. 3. disfellowshipping: everyone says how terrible and awful it is.

  In trying to decide where the Watchtower Society falls in the continuum of education, advertising, propaganda, indoctrination, and thought control, the chart at this site helps me a lot:

  The Society's methods are often coercive and sometimes unethical. I am not sure whether the goal is a cohesive group or perpetuation of the group for money and/or power.

  In my opinion, the Society straddles the line between indoctrination and thought control.

  does anybody know when jason beduhn's comparing work of bible translations is due to be released?

  i think it is to entitled "war of bibles" or something like that.

  (and much to the regret of quite afew, the nwt will score among the best-ranking translations ....)

  I am a daddy!

  my daughter was born at 9:05am tuesday morning.

  she's a skinny little thing, 7 pounds 5 ounces, with a shock of black hair, her father's chin, her mother's eyes, and a fetish for sucking on fingertips that neither of us recognize in ourselves.

  i'll post pictures when i have them up somewhere ... meanwhile, foxy and i are trying to catch as much sleep as possible, which is precious little sleep at all.

  Women are COWS!

  when a girl reaches the age of puberty or physical maturity, her.

  body has developed in the matter of sex more than in the mind.. young folks like to be together, first in groups, later in twos.. if they have not been instructed by their parents in regard to the.

  permitted, because the female is not in physical condition to breed.. the bull seems to understand this and keeps in his own place.

  Well Ginny then I guess you and I spent countless hours (at what cost we know!) at the pointless excercise of arguing ad hominems.

  I guess that will teach me to care, eh?

  As to my assumptions re: e-mails, that was intended to be more tongue in cheek but I'd wager Amazing was quite the victim there with you as he was here publicly. I mean if you don't have the personal fortitude to argue your case publicly I hardly doubt you'd waste it on one on one.

  Believe what you want to believe, Julie. Nothing I write seems to make a difference anyway.
