China's censorship of the web is sometimes surprising. The Wachtower.org site is accessible, but not Richard Dawkins'. I'm glad this site is not on the index.

I'm in China, and I just tried to search "Ferrari" and its Chinese translation "???" on the Chinese search engine Baidu. It returns results, but nothing regarding the accident.

It is well known that, starting in 1918, Watchtower publications under the direction of Judge Joseph Rutherford had prophesied the forthcoming resurrection of ancient biblical worthies such as Abraham, Moses and David. That prophecy is generally thought to have been unsuccessful. However, secret Watchtower files tell a very different story.
The truth is that Abraham, Moses and David did come back to life in the twentieth century, in 1933 to be more precise, and came to live at Judge Rutherford’s Beth-Sarim mansion in San Diego, California. That fact was never made public, though, as the return of the three “princes” ended up in complete fiasco.
Upon their resurrection, Judge Rutherford had decided to give the three men six months to adapt to their new environment before announcing the fantastic news to the world. Sadly, less than four months later, Rutherford was forced to conclude it had all been a mistake.
As it turned out, Moses is the one who caused the police to come see what was going on at Beth Sarim. On Saturday May 20, 1933, a neighbor had called the San Diego Police Department. As that man was mowing his lawn that morning, Moses had hurled a small stone at him, threatening to continue with bigger stones if the mowing was not stopped at once.
What the police then discovered at Beth Sarim has remained a well-kept secret to this day, not just because of the Watchtower Society’s embarrassment, but also at the request of representatives of the local Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities.
More than a hundred Mexican immigrants, men, women and children, were kept in a state of slavery on the property. One of the women, whom Abraham used as a sex slave, was two-month pregnant. All of the men and boys, including two babies, had suffered sexual mutilation. A boy was found in an extreme state of shock. It appeared Abraham had attempted to kill him in sacrifice.
Abraham was not the only one arrested that day. The police found that twenty-six of the women at Beth-Sarim were all married to the same husband, David. Such an extreme case of polygamy had never been seen in the history of the State of California. The worst was unraveled later, though, when Moses admitted being the murderer of a homosexual couple two months earlier.
Abraham and Moses were discretely judged and sent back to death on the electric chair. David took five years, and then disappeared. Compensation to the former slaves cost the Watchtower Society a fortune. Rutherford admitted having made an ass of himself, and promised to be more cautious when inviting anyone to his winter mansion in the future.

The history of the patriarchs, judges, and kings among the ancient Hebrews provides ample evidence that Jehovah gives direction through human representatives. When the people did not properly honor the appointed individuals, they were disciplined by Jehovah.-2 Ki.1:2-17; 2:19, 23, 24.
I'm not surprised they only mention official positions in the ancient order: patriarchs, judges and kings. Prophets were dangerous outsiders, just like Jesus Christ. When these people "did not properly honor the appointed individuals" by exposing their abuse of power, they were disciplined by the authority machine: kings, priests and Sanhedrin.
That article is a return to the Mosaic law and the worst of the ancient Israelite authority structure. Brilliant.

The future of the Watchtower
by Exterminator inwhat are your thoughts on the watchtower's future?.
here's my guess: they will move away from the increasingly embarrassing dates of 1914 and 1919, rather stressing the "success" of their organization as credentials.
there will be even more emphasis on the concept of god's organization.. the result will be total sclerosis, for god's organization cannot err nor be reformed by men.

So, the next end of the world is now for 2011?
Exactly my point: 2011 doesn't originate with Crooklyn. The Watchtower may continue to talk about the incoming end, but without a fresh date for the incoming consumation of the world, a new Russell will hold the flamme. Perhaps he will be that Harold Camping, or some self-appointed prophet anywhere else in the world.

Sure, the organization will probably remain, at least for some time, but its lifeblood will be gone.
Most religions on earth are ghostly remnants of their dynamic and reformist past.
In this one, the concept of a faithful "remnant" might be given more prominence in the future.

Here's my guess: they will move away from the increasingly embarrassing dates of 1914 and 1919, rather stressing the "success" of their organization as credentials. There will be even more emphasis on the concept of God's organization.
The result will be total sclerosis, for God's organization cannot err nor be reformed by men. What made that religion so exciting to millions decades ago will be gone: the dates, the grand fullfilment of prophecies, the urgency of the times. All that will be left is an increasingly boring, rigid, empty, cult.
Eventually, the biggest threat to God's organization will be competition. Another Charles Russell will rise somewhere, with fresh dates and bold claims. Perhaps, the Watchtower will be to him what Second Adventism was to the previous Russell. Like all other Russells before him, he will condemn the corruption of all established churches (including the Watchtower) qualifying them as "Babylon the Great".
The new Russell will set up free congregations of free Christians, drawing greater numbers of excited disciples. Intoxicated by his success, it will not be long before he starts to feel that God's blessing is upon his newly-established organization.
And God will have a new organization, as he regularly does.

The small group of anointed ones associated with the Kingdom work early in the 20th century had no way of knowing that by the year 2008, about seven million Witnesses would be engaging in this work in over 230 lands.
Oh, they sure were not expecting witnesses to be still preaching in the year 2008
