Is the husband the head of his wife?
by Doug Mason inhow do we explain the marital role with what paul said in 1 cor.
“but i want you to realize that the head of every man is christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of christ is god.” (niv).
read a few chapters earlier at 1 corinthians 7 to see what paul does say about the relationships between husband and wife.

Men and women should be equal in almost everything. But according to my understanding of scripture every male householder is a priest over his household so he should say grace unless the woman is Jewish and she's lighting the Sabbath candles. As a Jehovah's Witness her rebuttal is unconvincing to the children. This is one of those points in a marriage that I hold onto despite having lost and then bring up again and again whenever we have a disagreement to point out what a disrespectful wife she is whenever she accuses me of being disrespectful. I know her religion won't allow her to indulge my conviction on this point, and we don't often eat together at the table as a result. But what can I say, I'm entitled to my opinion and I don't care if the relationship suffers for it. -

Has Politics Affected Your Friendships?
by minimus ini’ve read that some families are not looking forward to spending time with their families and friends during the holidays because of their opposing political views.. isn’t that just ridiculous?

My mother voted Green but now supports Trump. Some friends of mine do too. I can't help but be snide and say that he's doing a great job of waking up Congress and the SCOTUS to the need to limit the ever overreaching powers of the Executive branch. Backhanded compliments directed to the Dear Leader are the only way to talk to Trump supporters. -

"Because it's my choice!"
by SonoftheTrinity inmy stepsons, aged 12 and 13 are proud to be the first boys in their school with facial hair, and are choosing not to shave it "because it's my choice!
" much to their jw mother's chagrin.
i am so proud of them for standing up to their mother, but if they want to shave later on it's their choice.

It's because of their ancestry on an isolated archipelago where the men, and indeed some of the women are hirsute from a young age. It's not because of diet.

I am so proud of them for standing up to their mother, but if they want to shave later on it's their choice. I have always found JW clean shaven policies to be feminizing and infantilizing, and contrary to scripture.

According to the Positivist Religion of Compte, people of reason go down in the history books, but I don't equate acceptance of evolution as denial of the God of Abraham, since the Torah was recompiled during the Babylonian captivity, and so any irrational fables that came to pollute Genesis can easily be blamed on Babylonian syncretism. -

Watchtower teaches that Jesus dying on the stake is no longer certain
by Listener inthe watchtower has held for many years that jesus died on a stake and held strongly to this teaching.
w 1951 3/15 the above agrees with the new world translation of the christian greek scriptures in its appendix, page 769, in saying that the instrument upon which jesus was nailed was a stake without a crossbeam, and not the religiously represented “cross”; and that the greek word used for that instrument in ancient time meant a “stake” and not the conventional religious cross.
they are no longer certain on this point.

I wonder if there are any half worldly couples who agreed to name their kid Stavros in honor of all the arguments they have about Jesus.

What Happens If the JW Beard Policy Stumbles a Person
by Cold Steel insome of the videos on youtube really make the beard policy look ridiculous.
i wondered what would happen if the jw beard policy caused someone to stumble?
jesus most likely wore a beard, and charles taze russell had a beard.

"I don't trust anything a clean shaven man, who looks more like a man pleasing salesman or politician than a holy man, has to say about God." -Is there a more discouraging line you could deliver to a door knocker?

Would You Outlaw Jehovah's Witnesses If You Had Your Way?
by minimus ini still believe in freedom of religion even if i disagree with the beliefsof the religion.

As wicked as it sounds I would totally understand the idea of internally deporting Jehovah's Witnesses to a territory all their own, in order to give them the autonomy they need to stop blaming the World. If their religion is so perfect then if they were forced to shift their focus from witnessing to and blaming nonbelievers they could make their territory a paradise on earth.

Don't let them abuse you emotionally. Respect them and demand respect. Learn about logical fallacies and learn to call them out when they attack your motives and character. In fact call out every logical fallacy you hear from the Watchtower. Don't listen to Black Wolf with the calling on Satan nonsense. Go full stone cold Dr. Spock on them, but do it very carefully and respectfully. In their videos they are supposed to respect the adolescent 'questioning' phase in theory. Call them out on whether motives are true faith or keeping up appearances. Use the phrases 'with all due respect' and 'please don't insult my intelligence with emotional appeals' Remind them that 'your disappointment doesn't make 'da troof' any more or less factual' and is thus neither here nor there. Be the nicest logical fallacy policeman in the world and tell them that recognizing fallacies will help me to a better Bethel writer because the ones they have use bad arguments that cause smart people to leave when they could have come up with better arguments for the same Truth and kept people in.' In short, what would Daria do?
