It's an interesting video. It's funny to think about how the WTS makes such a big deal about pagan origins of things like Christmas, but ignores the fact that a good part of the Jesus story was being told by pagans for centuries before his alleged birth. I have yet to hear a convincing Christian response to this. I'm not satisfied with the explanation that Satan did it to discredit Jesus.

by Blackboo ini am gonna keep it as simple as this...please answer this simple one question to you who do not believe in intelligent design.. but wait...you notice how evolution leaves out all the obvious details about the human body..which leads to my question how did man and woman evolved???

It appears that you really really believe in God (unless you're just trying to discredit creationists). Why not give this evolution thing a rest for a while and study if the Bible portrayal of God is reasonable and reliable. Even if you convince all of us there is a god, I haven't seen you give even one piece of evidence that he is the God of the Bible. Are you assuming the Bible is accurate, just because you believe in a god?

If God made Eve from Adam's rib, why did they have different DNA? Or do you think they had the same DNA? If God changed it, why bother yanking out a rib?

I blame extremists on both sides for making this debate such a mess. It's fine to put our current scientific understanding under close scrutiny and see where we have to refine or expand on our knowledge. I don't think it's fine for one side to make crazy, uninformed attacks and for the other side to overreact in defense of their changing (evolving?) body of scientific understanding.

Blackboo, I'm beginning to wonder if you really are an atheist trying to make creationists look bad by repeating some of their lamest arguments. If so, I suggest that is the wrong approach. If you are a creationist, you are still having the same effect of making others with your beliefs look bad. You owe it to yourself to better understand these issues. There are much better arguments that can be made in behalf of your beliefs, but this takes education. We can all benefit from a respectful and insightful discussion of these matters. I'm well aware that there are limitations and perhaps problems with evolutionary theory. However, pointing these out doesn't prove one of many alternatives (belief in a specific god) to be true. It's even easier to turn the tables and point out the problems with that hypothesis. There needs to be further research. I would be happy to find the truth, regardless of where that search leads us. If you want to search for a god, there are still a few places where his influence could be hiding. I suggest you search there, rather than places where his influence has already been shown to be unnecessary.

Would anyone like to recommend a topic for March first? Some have already mentioned the idea of talking about the pedophilia scandal. It might also be worth asking about the recent layoffs at Bethel, since that is an issue that will probably be on everyone's minds.

Naked Bobbing Bible Students
by DT infrom the golden age of february 10, 1926 page 310, "air baths are good for preventing colds... what you do is strip naked mornings and evenings and then bob up and down for a while.".
i found this at the watchtower society quotes site in this section on medical quackery.
i'm not surprised that the wts tried to shut it down because of all the embarrassing information there..

There was alot of medical quackery going on back in those days. The Bible students had no monopoly on that.
Very true. I get a kick out of it because they thought they were God's channel of communication, yet they always seem to be a little behind the times.

To my conservative counterpoints, and fundamentalist foils
by inkling infirst off, i want to make it clear that this is not sarcasm.. as shape is defined by shadow, each of us is somewhat defined by understanding.
exactly how we differ from those with whom we disagree.. for me, and perhaps quite a few kindred spirits here, this contrast is particularly.
sharp drawn on the subjects of "literal bible truth" and the origin and progression .

Thanks for this thoughtful post. I'm critical of religion at times, but I think of problems with religion as being mostly a symptom of common human tendencies. Atheists may feel smug at times because they have avoided certain superstitions or claims that can't be defended rationally. However, atheists are still human and can easily make the same kinds of mistakes. Some atheists seem to be reluctant to allow their theories to come under close scrutiny. There seems to be a fear that admitting weaknesses in current scientific explanations will cause people to give up the attempt to understand things rationally.
I think atheists need to be as critical of themselves as they are of religionists and embrace outside criticism as a way to improve our theories. If we don't do that, we could become guilty of the same irrationality and hypocrisy that we sometimes point out in others.
