Bump. This Scientology protest movement is powerful. I was hoping for more discussion about how this might increase public awareness of other cults, including Jehovah's Witnesses.

Did anonymous wear masks or cover their faces?
The majority had covered faces. This was probably partially a result of the dangerous wind chills, but it appeared that some were also concerned about keeping their identities secret. I was told that the Scientology church had a video camera and were videotaping from inside. I saw a few people with masks from V for Vendetta.

I was curious about the worldwide Scientology protests today, so I attended the one in Minneapolis. It was interesting. It was bitterly cold with subzero temperatures and high winds. But there was still a nice size turnout. I didn't have a sign. I handed out a few fliers and mostly observed. It was dignified. The only Scientologists I saw were in the church. They just stared at the protesters with a blank expression on their faces.
Several of the signs made reference to the Scientologist's tax exempt status. It would be great if lawmakers looked at this more seriously. If you check out the prices that they charge for their courses at their official website, it becomes pretty apparent that they are more of a business than a religion. It would be nice if this also prompts investigation into the Watchtower Society's finances and tax exempt status. I would at least like to see a public disclosure of their finances.
Did anyone else attend one of these or see their local news coverage?

It's an interesting video. It's funny to think about how the WTS makes such a big deal about pagan origins of things like Christmas, but ignores the fact that a good part of the Jesus story was being told by pagans for centuries before his alleged birth. I have yet to hear a convincing Christian response to this. I'm not satisfied with the explanation that Satan did it to discredit Jesus.

Those who do not believe in intellient design and creation is brain dead!!
by Blackboo ini am gonna keep it as simple as this...please answer this simple one question to you who do not believe in intelligent design.. but wait...you notice how evolution leaves out all the obvious details about the human body..which leads to my question how did man and woman evolved???
well my bible says god put man to sleep and took one of his ribs..and made woman.

It appears that you really really believe in God (unless you're just trying to discredit creationists). Why not give this evolution thing a rest for a while and study if the Bible portrayal of God is reasonable and reliable. Even if you convince all of us there is a god, I haven't seen you give even one piece of evidence that he is the God of the Bible. Are you assuming the Bible is accurate, just because you believe in a god?

If God made Eve from Adam's rib, why did they have different DNA? Or do you think they had the same DNA? If God changed it, why bother yanking out a rib?

I blame extremists on both sides for making this debate such a mess. It's fine to put our current scientific understanding under close scrutiny and see where we have to refine or expand on our knowledge. I don't think it's fine for one side to make crazy, uninformed attacks and for the other side to overreact in defense of their changing (evolving?) body of scientific understanding.

Blackboo, I'm beginning to wonder if you really are an atheist trying to make creationists look bad by repeating some of their lamest arguments. If so, I suggest that is the wrong approach. If you are a creationist, you are still having the same effect of making others with your beliefs look bad. You owe it to yourself to better understand these issues. There are much better arguments that can be made in behalf of your beliefs, but this takes education. We can all benefit from a respectful and insightful discussion of these matters. I'm well aware that there are limitations and perhaps problems with evolutionary theory. However, pointing these out doesn't prove one of many alternatives (belief in a specific god) to be true. It's even easier to turn the tables and point out the problems with that hypothesis. There needs to be further research. I would be happy to find the truth, regardless of where that search leads us. If you want to search for a god, there are still a few places where his influence could be hiding. I suggest you search there, rather than places where his influence has already been shown to be unnecessary.
