i've posted this on the wrong section so i'm posting it on here cos its sort of to topic as i know many of you have vids on youtube.

legal department are beginning legal action against google and its uploaders regards to apostate vids that slander the watchtower and/or contain copyrighted material!!!

my hubby knows people who know so heres my warning lol.

I agree that we shouldn't shoot the messenger. It's good to hear what kind of rumors are circulating among the Witnesses.

I think it's easy for Witnesses to mistake sending take down notices with significant legal action. What I find remarkable is that they seem to have stopped sending these notices. Their first round just caused more videos to be uploaded including parodies and videos with commentaries. If they do a Scientology like attack, I think they realise it can backfire greatly, with a lot of unwanted press coverage. They may occassionally send a take down notice for videos that reach a certain amount of views, but I think they are smart enough to not do more than that.

I would love to see the Watchtower Society challenge Google in court. The Watchtower's legal team would be grossly outmatched and it would be a PR disaster.

I think it is a little premature to start removing videos. We don't have any confirmation yet and removing them wouldn't get rid of the legal liability (if there is any to begin with).

i wrote a letter to pz myers about the sparlock vid and asked all of my ex-jw pals to do the same if they had a few moments.

and he posted about it!.

pz myers is huge in the skeptic/atheist community, so the vid is spreading to non-jws as well.

I can't believe they provided such a nice closeup for us to use. It appears that someone spent a lot of time designing Sparlock.

This is great news. Thanks for helping to make this happen. This could really make it more likely that it will get exposure in the mainstream media. We should try to give it as many likes and tweets as possible.

Can any one add that to the list of references? I know it is a very popular site. Now it's probably only a matter of time before other reputable sites pick up the story. There are also some news stories about the 2012 District Convention that might make appropriate references.

I was wondering if this passage, "Also, many elements of the entire video perpetuate outdated sexual stereotypes and manipulative, coercive child rearing techniques." should be changed to something more like this, "Also, some critics have suggested that certain elements of the video perpetuate outdated sexual stereotypes and manipulative, coercive child rearing techniques." to make it sound more nuetral.

Demons and the Witnesses

ok, this one is a little long, but i think it's worth reading.

in putting this together, i came across a fair amount of interesting information about the witnesses and their belief in demons.

there's a lot that i'll be interested to put to the next witness i come acoss (if any of them still quite dare to talk to me after last time.

allright my first post messed up and i lost it some kind of way.

haven't posted on here in along time, obviously don't know how to anymore.. trying again.. so i was raised a jw, da for over a decade, of course estranged from parents and jw family, have a teenage son from a previous relationship.. anyways, i wanted to see what someone who had no first hand knowledge of the jws would think.

so i showed my non-jw girlfriend the obey jehovah (go sparlock!

Do we have any videos, recordings or even transcripts of this talk? We should get some videos up on Youtube. It might be another copyright fight, but apostates have proven that they can handle it.

Sparlock: The Sociology of the former Jehovahs Witness community

thewatchtower bible and tract society has unwittingly unleashed quite a viral sensation within the ranks of its former members.

to summarise what has happened so far:- become jehovahs friend dvd is released.

it is an animated feature aimed at children with modern computerised graphics.- the antagonist of the relatively brief cartoon is a self-described warrior wizard by the name of sparlock which was obtained by caleb, the young subject of this material.- the unnamed mother in this dvd guilt-trips young caleb into disposing of his sparlock toy.- the video goes viral within the ex-jw community, with youtube videos being posted of the video.

I keep reminding myself that most Witnesses haven't even heard of Sparlock yet. Most District Conventions haven't happened yet. We know the EXJW reaction to Sparlock, but we really don't know what the reaction will be from loyal Witnesses. It may seem that Sparlock mania has already peaked, but we can't predict what the ultimate reaction will be.

It's a grand social experiment. Other religions and cults have invented villians in the past (like Satan), but I'm not aware of any that have tried this in the age of the Internet, certainly not in such a ridiculous manner.
