Intersting post. Thanks for doing the research. I always felt uneasy about Stanley Theater when I was a witness.

Please pardon the unstructured nature of this post.
Have you seen the entire "Fun With Covers Series"? I think they're great and appreciate all the work that went into making them. For your convenience I embedded them all in order at my video blog. Here are the links:

I appreciate all the effort that critics of Jehovah's Witnesses put into placing informative videos on places like Youtube. It's an important part of the battle for truth on the Internet. I think that us apostates are doing a much better job than the WTS. There is a technological development that may giver us an extra edge. Many anti-JW videos are rich in text, but this information isn't found by search engines. Google is working on technology to fix that. Here's an article that discusses it. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,141014-c,google/article.html If this technology is used for video search, then it could be a big boost for distributing this information through the video medium.
I don't have the skills or interest for making videos, but I'm more than happy to help promote them. They are pretty easy to embed into blogs. Doing this can help these videos to do better in searches and is an easy way to add interest to your blog. Here's a link to a video that discusses the process. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4067726624381308649&q=embed+videos+blogger+youtube&total=162&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1
What are your thoughts on anti-JW videos? I would also be interested in seeing some links to your favorite videos.

ANTI-SLAVERY LEGISATION AND THE WT
by badboy inhas anyone thought of whether bethel ree labour violate anti-slavery legistation?

It's an interesting question. Of course, the workers are volunteers, but their "willful decision" results from the propaganda by the WTS. I think a former worker could sue the WTS for lost wages if they can show that their decision to volunteer was influenced by deception or mind control techniques. It might be a tough a case, but I think it's at least possible that something like this could succeed at some point.

2 figurative numbers doesn't = 1 literal number!
by WingCommander ini think this was posted on another one of the forums on here, but i think it is good enough to warrant repeating.
when someone posted this logic, it made so much sense and i couldn't believe i had never thought of this before!
in regards to the book of revelation and the 144,000, the wtbs believes that the 12,000 jews out of the 12 tribes of israel are figurative.

My last comment as a JW was about this. I started to feel cognitive dissonance right away. It didn't take long before I realised how messed up their reasoning is.

The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and legal action..
by DT inthis international treaty is fascinating, if you are concerned about abuses of power by the watchtower society.
http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/a_ccpr.htm.
i would like to comment on a section of article 18, although many of the other articles are also relevant.. "no one shall be subject to coercion which would impair his freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice.".

I thought I would mention some more interesting quotes:
From Article 2,
"3. Each State Party to the present Covenant undertakes: (a) To ensure that any person whose rights or freedoms as herein recognized are violated shall have an effective remedy"
The U.S. courts have refused to even hear some cases where individuals claim the WTS has infringed on their rights.
From Article 7,
"No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."
I would think that secret trials, slander, extreme shunning and the breakup of families could fall into this category.
Article 17,
" 1. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary or unlawful interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to unlawful attacks on his honour and reputation. 2. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks."
I would think that forced shunning is an arbitrary interference with one's family. I may be back with some more later.

I would like to comment on a section of article 18, although many of the other articles are also relevant.
"No one shall be subject to coercion which would impair his freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice."
If a JW admits that he disagrees with an official governing body teaching, the elders try to readjust his thinking. If this fails, the "apostate" can be disfellowshipped and shunned. In other words they threaten someone with alienation if they are unwilling to change their belief. His freedom to adopt a belief is impaired.
Also if a member decides to exercise his right to leave the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses and adopt a different religion or set of beliefs, then he is subjected to the same punishment. Given the severity of losing contact with family and friends, many people are impaired from exercising their freedom of religion.
I believe that the WTS shows contempt for the basic civil rights of it's members. The question is whether we can use this treaty to combat the Watchtower Society's disregard for civil rights. The situation is a bit complicated in the United States, but I hope that there may be a country that has signed this agreement and has a legal climate that would be favorable to challenging the WTS policies and punishing them for the damage they have done.
If this happens in even one country, it could put a tremendous amount of pressure on the governing body to change their policies to minimise financial losses. They might decide to change the policies everywhere. It would be very difficult to explain the changing of these policies in only some countries and could make it easier to show that these policies are used for secular rather than religious reasons, which could make it easier to sue them elsewhere.
The United States has adopted this treaty, but with reservations. It is not self executing in the U.S. It can't be used, by itself, as a cause for action in U.S. courts. However, it appears that the courts can use it for guidance. Here is a good article that talks about the treaty's implications for U.S. law. http://www.geocities.com/mhc_humanrights/USICCPRarticle.html
I barely skimmed the surface of this topic. I hope you will share your thoughts and observations.

I'm very appreciative of all the hard work that went into this. I was excited to read on page 17 about how that WTS failed to get the case dismissed on the grounds that it would "impermissibly entangle the court in ecclesiastical affairs". There have been many other lawsuits that were never tried because the WTS hid behind the First Amendment while trampling on the rights of others. If the courts will continue to reject this lame defense, then it could have a tremendous impact and make the WTS vulnerable to other types of lawsuits such as shunning cases.
