I appreciate you sharing your stories of love and heartache. My Momma must have been your Momma's sister, and reading your history helps me to make sense out of some of my prior choices---I'm a recovering Codependent, too. -

Mummy's (Mommy's) Boys - Old school Elders are mummy's boys.
by freddo inin the congregations i have been in there are many long time dyed in the wool elders who were the sons of women of a certain age.
let me explain - must you?
yes.. mom "finds the truth" (often because a loved one died in the war, or died when she was young and she bought into the nice ladies calling to offer the resurrection hope) sometime between ww2 and vietnam.

So you've met my ex-husband? He was a complete momma's boy---son of a domineering, controlling JW mother and an emotionally weak, spiritually inactive, verbally abusive father. He was very emotionally enmeshed with his mother...she ran our marriage in the background. He was the "golden child" of the congregation, appointed MS at about 20, quickly moving up the ranks until he achieved the position of Elder.
He was angry, narcissistic and abusive. We eventually divorced when he committed adultery with nothing more than a smack on the hand for both the abuse and the adultery. He married again, has another unhappy marriage, remained an elder the entire time and now in his 60's is the COBE of his present congregation. His relationship with our daughter is sporadic, but he and our son barely interact. My son was a MS for many years but has now faded, and his father is giving him the "soft-shun." The ex's health has always been poor, but he keeps running on the hamster wheel, and will probably die early , while at his funeral they will give him the kudos of having lived his life as a "faithful witness."

Is this a BEAUTIFUL STORY--or what?
by Terry inis this a beautiful story, or what?.
act one________.
now in an ordinary romance of the golden hollywood era, the boy goes off to war while the young lady waits nervously for his safe return.in a cary grant, debra kerr movie, the two vow to meet after a certain period of time and tragic circumstances intervene.. in my story, the young man is a conscientious objector who goes to prison instead of off to the vietnam war.

Ah, Terry...my romantic old heart is truly happy for you and your friend. So many years have passed by for me, so many missed opportunities... I have no hope that anything like that will ever happen in my life, but I can live vicariously through your stories. I hope the meeting will be joyful for you both. -

Are Jehovah's Witnesses marriages even legit?
by Joliette ini ask this because of the circumstances behind why they get married and who they get married by.
i know people say that they are really in love, they love jehovah, etc, but are these marriages even legit.
i've talked to older jw's sister who are now widowed, some of them say that they were trapped in a marriages.

Once I was reinstated some years ago, I was surprised to hear a number of "sisters" express their envy of my single status (I have been divorced from an elder who abused me for over 20 years.) Several even told me that if something ever happened to their husbands, they would never marry again. That is not exactly a good report of the happy, loving state of marriage in the organization. -
