Banned from the second school!

i've been told by a jw friend that when her hall recently had a refurb that big changes were made to the second school.. one, a large sign has been placed on the door telling people not to use it and to sit in the main hall itself.. two,that all the chairs which used to face the large windows looking into the main hall are now side on to the window facing the wall instead.. this is because "so many people were sitting out in there!

people were finding all manner of exhuses to sit-in there and the brothers want us to all be together in the main hall!

" she said.. of course i didn't tell her what i really thought of this but seriously?

Yes, control...and absolutely no consideration for people's individual comfort, just a "herd mentality." I am not comfortable in crowds...related to claustrophobia,discomfort with heights, and anxiety. So, at assemblies and conventions I always looked for seats either on the end of the row, or seats not too high up in a stadium. So many times, the attendants had roped off entire sections, and got ugly if I requested a more comfortable seat, not even caring to allow me to explain what my issues were. Same at the KH, where they insisted that everyone crowd into seats at the front of the hall, leaving lots of empty seats at the back of the room. (except, of course, when I was attempting to get reinstated---then I was avoided like I had Ebola.)

I had developed a cough, and rather than disturb others around me during the WT study, I went out to the lobby to sit and continue to listen. An attendant came over to me and said I had to go back to the main hall, and in the midst of my explanation, he turned around and ignored me, but not before he questioned how it would look to visitors if they came in and found me sitting there. (???) It seems that the people assigned as attendants just enjoy the sense of power that it fools them into thinking they have, probably above what they have in their everyday lives.

The JW FUNERAL experience

my best buddy is gone.

i attended his funeral this morning.. on thursday evening, i went to the body "viewing" and it was "family only.

" i am part of the family (through marriage) so, i was there.. i was welcomed with joy and enthusiasm like a long lost (prodigal) sheep.

What you have written here over the past few days is the truest and most sincere eulogy in behalf of your best friend, Johnny. True words, true feelings, true love. Thank you for inviting us to "attend" his memorial with you.

I quit the Goodwill :(

i couldnt take seeing people from the kingdom hall.

you guys wouldnt believe how many jehovahs witnesses shop in the goodwill.

i couldnt take it.

I love Goodwill and any other thrift store I can wander around in. At least half my wardrobe comes from there, in addition to household items, books, art and furniture. Years ago, when I still attended the KH, I introduced the "Bethel wives" in my congregation to shopping there after field service one Saturday and they bought clothes for themselves and suits for their husbands. They said they could have the clothes fixed by the tailor at Bethel.

Disturbing/Puzzling Skit at JW Function Last Night Plus Odd Choice of Music

so i attended a fairly large jw gathering last night with my active, elder husband.

it was a good-by party for a former special pioneer couple who have been demoted to reg pios and have now moved to a larger city to find work.

anyway, there was music and skits.

at the young age of 72 ?

o.k.i`m slightly older .. however i`m surprised that nobody has mentioned this to date.

lets say..an assembly is arranged at a stadium for 30,000 jws to meet.

now lets say only about 1,000 jws show up.. do you think the show would go on?, or do you think it would be canceled because it would not generate enough money?.

Would you have married your spouse if you weren't both JWs?

ok, i've had some wine, but i'm curious.

objectively speaking, but for the religion, did you have enough in common with your spouse to have met and married as non believers?

NOOOOOOOO...nonononononononono...no! I actually considered breaking it off with him but an article in the Watchtower had just been printed that said the one who ended an engagement would be df'd for "breaking a covenant with Jehoover." My mother and his were friends and thought we were "evenly yoked"---UGH. It was damned near an arranged marriage. I pulled the "yoke" off about 25 years ago and got a divorce from him since he was an elder (still is) with a nasty temper who was abusive.

How did you feel when they eliminated the Con. Book Study?

years ago when i was "in" i loved the book study.

it was my favorite meeting by far.

mainly because it was a small group.

I'm guessing that the book study was the meeting that resulted in the least amount of money being collected. Therefore, it became a financial waste of time to the organization to produce those books that required all that "research.". And besides...they couldn't allow people to have that much fun at a meeting.

A question for mothers...

a human being, your child, was conceived, grew in you, and on one special day you delivered your child into this world.

a truly miraculous thing in and of itself.. when you were a jw, although forbidden to celebrate evil birthdays (sarcasm), did your heart ever ache contrary to watchtower teaching and want to shower your child with love and thankfulness?

i would think that if a religion were to believe in god, then their doctrine should have god somehow responsible for the act of procreation, birth, love, etc.

Happy Birthday to you too, Bob! I am a mother of 2 and a grandmother of 2 little granddaughters. I am also a born-in, and recognize how the lack of recognition we grew up with has contributed to a lifetime of issues with self-worth, feelings of inadequacy, no inclination to trust my feelings and judgements, and generally no self-love. I have spent many years (at least 15 since I stopped being a JW) in patching myself together, with the result that I am comfortable with who I am today.

The constant JW admonitions that we were "good-for-nothing slaves" who could not even trust our own hearts and who never were good enough or did enough for a constantly demanding God, did a number on most of us. That is why today I am a strong cheerleader of the value of each and every member of my family. I make sure that their birthdays are remembered, to give them the recognition that every person deserves of how special they are. I keep a list of the dates so I can send cards, gifts and contact them by phone with words of love. To me, everyone should be made to feel special on their day.
