Christian Arrogance
by startingover inmaybe arrogance is not the right word but i can find no other that describes what i see.
the idea expressed by some christians on this board is that somehow god specifically chose them.
i'll quote perry as an example as his post inspired this thread.

it is the rigidity and inflexibility of
most, if not all, religious movements
that restrict the genuine fluidity of
human nature... my god can beat
your god usually precedes slaughter...
arrogance on steroids!which i suppose is one
way to kill off a god...
kill all its adherentshmmmm....
imagine no religion,
i wonder if we can..... -

Jehovah's Witnesses upbuilding worldwide brotherhood
- Category: Common Interest - Religion & Spirituality
- Description: You *must* have Jehovah's Divine, Holy Name visible for all to see in your personal page to be approved as a member of this group. If I can not see that you are proud of Jehovah's Divine Holy Name when I click on your profile, then I can not approve you as a member. This is a private group for JWs and those studying the Bible with JWs. If you apply, your profile will be checked to make sure you have no un-Christian content. If you do not have Jehovah's Divine, Holy Name in a few places on your page your request to join will be denied.
you cannot make this stuff up>> a profile status
Good night. I have an appointment to search out sheep in the morning and since Jehovah's angels will be listening and watching for all of their responses, I need to be up to the task. Off to bed I go and I'll pray again for the worldwide brotherhood, the brothers and sisters in Russia and in Haiti as they are all trying to endure. -

how do you get a sweet little 80 year old woman to drop the f-bomb?
get another sweet little 80 year old woman to yell "bingo"....
my life is full of mid late adolescents to mid 20's...
if i was going to have a stroke every time some one
said a bozo no-no, i would be well beyond dead....time, place, circumstance and sensibilities
should be the guide for decorum.... i
certainly wouldnt swear in front of someone
who would be grossly offended....i love a good rail laden with forbidden expletives
every now and again, but it is more because of
what my father told me years back (that profanity
is a sign of a weak mind and weaker vocabulary)
than any "moral" outlook that keeps me somewhat
self-censored.... but man it sure as hell gets
downright hilarious sometimes!!!!! -

Another Scotsman reporting for duty :)
by cofty inhi all, its time i stopped lurking around here.
i've been posting at jws for just over a year, i know a few names here and it looks like there is lots of good banter going on.. i am a second generation, born-in who grew up in west-central scotland.
i pioneered in edinburgh and later married and settled in berwick just south of the border.

welcome to the boards, crofty
ït is always interesting and
gratifying to read successful
escape stories... true enough
none get out unscathed, but
if, at the end of the day, you
are engaged in living, instead
of waiting to live in "paradise",
then i think that gets counted
as successfulwelcome!

article in the UK daily mail about JW child abuse
by highdose inmy home became my nightmare': a woman recalls her childhood of abuse by her stepfather.
beth ellisafter suffering years of abuse as a child at the hands of her jehovah's witness stepfather, beth ellis (now 30) finally made a statement to the police five years ago.
but, because of the closed nature of her upbringing, getting enough evidence to prove his crime became an ongoing battle.

man.... what an utter tragedy
no matter what "faith" the
perp has or doesnt have....i spent 6 years as a member
of a forum for adult surviviors
of childhood sexual abuse...
nearly 4 as a moderator...the details vary, but the core
of the story is horrifically familiar....i hope she finds professional help...
i hope the perp gets what is coming -

Have You Taken the Xmas Stuff Down Yet?
by OnTheWayOut inat work, the lights and tree are still up.
they almost certainly will come down this week.. some people get their stuff up early to avoid harsher weather or because they had time right after thanksgiving.
but getting the stuff down is more difficult when the horrible january weather is upon us and the holiday time to get extra stuff done is passed.. my neighbors had elaborate xmas lights displays and most are gone, some are not.

the "tree" is actually a 5 ft silk bamboo
with white lights have about 13 functions,
but i set it on the fade and glow option...
it is truly lovely and i leave it on all yearthe decorations i have are more
winter themed than xmas themed...
winter is entrenched here on the
south shore of lake superior....so..... the decorations stay!
the one string of coloured lights
that outline the front door and
the two windows on that side of
the house is unplugged...
just following the example
of the neighborsi will probably take them down if
we have to rake the roof.... -

For those of you attending college now (or at least recently have)....
by 2pink inplease remind me what the work load is like.
i went to college and took a few classes in my early 20s, and found it all very easy, but i had a lot less responsibility back then so i think my perception was skewed.
now i am 31, married, 2 kids, soon to be 3. i work very part time from home.

well first off! congrats on the growing family!
i wish you the strength and health to face
all the good things coming your waythat being said, i am definitely agreeing
that online is more work than in personwith all you have headed your way i would
want to ask what is the urgency of getting a
degree at this moment in time? why not 7 years
as a timeline?i am only taking between 6 and 12 credits at any
given time and when it gets to 9+ the stress level
increases dramaticallyi think you will find it an expensive proposition
to have to drop classes and lose tuition because
there was too much on your plate....whatever you end up doing,
congratulations and good luck -

Today marks the 4th anniversary of my leaving the Jehovahs Witness religion
by jambon1 infour years ago today i walked out of the kingdon hall at 12.30pm knowing it would be the last time i would ever do so.. i haven't been back or considered going back since.. life in a divided family is a rocky road.. showing jehovahs witnesses that you can lead a fulfilling, happy life outside the circus that is their religion has been met (sadly) with opposition, slander & all the most bitter feelings that can ever come up into the heart of a person that practises the religion.. it's been worth it though.. freedom of thought & expression mean everything to me.. now my children are learning the same.
the religion has virtually no hold on them now.. life is good.
it is also short.
