HOW/WHO to donate - hungry, orphans, widows.......

been almost a year, i've planned on, and time for me to start doing something as i continue to learn the real truth.

we gotta follow our conscious and heart in this matter.

i do want to help those who are in 'real' need, and also donate some to organizations who give almost every cent to that.

links "donors" with out-in-the-field
lending institutions..... microloans

about 2 years ago, i "loaned" $25 to
2 separate projects, got paid back, and
have re-loaned that same $50 to 9
different people/projects, from africa
to south america to the middle east
to asia.... to buy material to make shirts,
buy food to stock a cantina, buy a breeding
cow, buy seed for farming, buy a second
sewing machine, you name it and 3rd
world entrepeneurs are doing it.... they
just need a little bit of of a leg up

we are already going on a year and a half, and thank god i have not been converted yet.

i am sick of hearing their version of the bible.

i had little or no problems with my beliefs as an 18 year old convert to the jehovah's witness religion.

fair enough, there were a few things that i found a bit wacky & odd, but i was on the road to life.

i couldn't give a rats arse about many things.

Language usage gripes : I'm a geek, but I hate it when geeks who pride themselves on their proper use of technical terms, abuse the terms used by all other educated people.

i hate the use of the word "simplistic" when the word used should be "simple".

"simple" is good, "simplistic" is bad.

we want things to be presented in a clear, concise and "simple" manner.

"My" atheism...

a comment on dgp's thread about being kind to jw's promted me to post this thread.. as a life long (46 years) jw, i was conditioned to doing "the right thing" because it was required of me.

i was also conditioned to be on the lookout for others not doing the right thing and either distancing myself from them or reporting them to the elders.. today, i consider myself an atheist.

i have nobody telling me what the right thing is or fear of being punished for not doing it.

i LOVE the sentiment, because it absolutely
resonates with me, in that i fear no punishment
nor do i expect a reward... i have a sense of
right, wrong, honor, valor, duty, courage and
compassion (most of which would NEVER
develop in a perfect paradise world, btw)
and my actions and reactions are based on
those cardinal aspects of what i perceive
as my responsibilities.... MY perceptions,
not someone else's

Joining a new religion after being a JW is like......

joining a new religion after being a lifetime jw would be like getting remarried at middle age after years of putting your heart, soul, faith, and commitment into it only to find out it was a hoax.

i have been happily married for many years and if (god forbid) i should ever find myself single one day...i can't imagine ever wanting to remarry...especially not if i had been terribly betrayed as i feel i have been by this organization..
