Chain of correspondence with Society regarding pedophilia

i have been given permission by barbara anderson to relay some interesting correspondence related to the society's negiligent approach to child abuse.

it should be said at the outset that these letters are anonymous, and the only thing that can be said with certainty is that they are letters addressing the subject of child abuse that were likely sent some time between 1997 and 2004.. with names and dates having been removed, it is impossible to verify the events described in these letters, although if true, they betray a shocking arrogance and apathy on the part of the society.

they also describe pedophiles running virtually unchecked in certain congregations with little or no safeguards for their victims.

james woods is correct, in fact scientology makes jw's look like sesame street. witht he said, watchtower is becoming more and more like scientology with the recent shunning rules change, etc that is more in line with scientologys disconnection policy, which is not contact whatsoever.

ohiocowboy has just posted this information on the two other threads dealing with the sudden collapse of the unthank cases.. i don't know steven unthank, but i just want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for having the courage against overwhelming odds to try and bring the watch tower society to justice over their deplorable neglect when it comes to protecting children from abuse and molestation.. steven is a man of justice and integrity who i deeply admire.

his actions will never be forgotten, and i only hope he can find it within himself to continue his work in whatever avenue may become available in the future.. they have won this battle, but they can never win the war.. .

The above thread, which is now locked, contains much of the unbridled speculation and cynicism pertaining to the minutae of the events surrounding the case and its closure. If you want to brief yourself on what's been said these past couple of days, then this would be a good reference point. However, you'll need a strong stomach, because (as I've said previously on this thread) it contains the ramblings of posters who have dragged this forum to its lowest depths since I've been posting here.

Cedars, what you posted above is not helping and is just further stoking the fire. im trying to walk away from this thing, and then i see cyberjesus post clear evidence of a major contradiction in steven unthanks story (from a transscropt posted by another member) about the sun picture from the conference call and what he posted on his site. (and im not even bringing up the evidence he posted that the picture has been photoshopped) the response? one poster responds with basicly that the ends justify the means, and we make her sick, and then a thread locking, and then i come here and read the above from you, who up to this point have refrained from talking about us like that. so in the face of unthank caught misrepresenting now a second picture, its still the same response, we who bring this to light, among other things, are supporters of covering up child abuse, are "rambling" and have "dragged this forum to its lowest depths since i have been posting here."

how can we hold a member of the ex-jw community to a lesser standard of honestly than we hold the watchtower? is it really the case that if an ex-jw takes on the watchtower in court they are allowed to engage in misrepresentation? (notice im trying to not use the term lie because i am trying to keep this as calm as possible). no matter how many insults there are going to be, this is not something i can just be quiet about, its not right. it is not right for unthank to misrepresent things on his site, no matter what his stature in the ex-jw community is.

This is what Mr Unthank said in the call yesterday.... according to Sebastious transcription I am just copying and pasting.. I wont even add my commentary... just a few questions...
" It was drawn by a young child in the Tarragalon congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. This child had been abused, or actually raped, by a fellow member of the religion, not in that congregation, but in another congregation . This was when I started the case this young child was quite small and was part of the original group of children that I decided to stand up for and protect and when I started my initial campaign for compliance on serveral occasions when I wrote letters it was in regards to her so that she could feel safe within the religion. When I decided I had no choice but to prosecute the case myself I had to resign from the religion. One, I was ashamed to be a Jehovah's Witness and that was a great part of not wanting to be a sharer in what they were doing. The other part was that if I was disfellowshipped then all the action I'd taken as a member of the religion would be discredited, I'd be forever labled a disgruntled former member, someone who is disfellowshipped etc etc. So, to protect the integrity of the case and to do the right thing I resigned.
Now it was some time later that I was down the street and I saw the family where this young child, she was about 4 at the time, she was skipping along and she saw me and she came up to me and she said to me words along the lines of "daddy says I'm not allowed to talk you" and then she explained the reason why and she said, "because you don't love Jehovah" and that was because she had been told that I was no longer a Jehovah's Witness. Then I just stood there looking at her, because, what do you say? She then gave me a hug off she went skipping along back with her family. Then I think about later that week, or possibly the next weekend, my mother came up to me and she had a little picture which I've got on my wall. It's a small circle of paper and it's what this young girl had drawn at kindergarten and she'd asked that it be given to me and she said to tell me that it was "the sun to make you happy."
So that's where that picture came from. So I had spent the previous couple of years trying to make sure that both that girl and other children in the congregation, as well as her sister, were safe. What I didn't know at the time was that this young girl had been raped just a few weeks befor e and I didn't find out about that until really not that long ago and that really shook me up"
1 How old was the girl when she drew the drawing?
2 How do you know it was drawn by the girl?
3 When was this girl allegedly raped? I mean how long ago.... two times?
4 Now look at the picture make it big and look at the amount of detail....
5 So why did he waited a couple of years?
6 Now you come up with all the discrepancies here....
think whatever you want... those comments were said yesterday....
Now here is the statement from Mr Unthank's website... just copied and pasted.
The above painting “the sun to make you happy” was personally drawn by a young child in the Traralgon Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses who was recently raped by a fellow member of the church

The above was posted by cyber jesus. what steven is saying about the sun picture does not add up. how is it a problem that this is being pointed out?

what if it turns out that the sun picture is lie? does that not make it clear then? even if i give you the girl picture, and i give him a complete pass on that, how can you then defend him still if the sun picture if that also turns out to not be true?

im down with that cedars, providing your read on steven is correct, and i have no reason right now to doubt that. hopefully nothing else comes to light that puts gasoline on the fire.

i apperciate the answer you gave, while i view what he wrote as an absolute outrage, i respect your position. child abuse is probably the single worst thing a person can do, and to be called a supporter of it because of being skeptical is one of the all time worst insults i can think of, and it has me beside myself.

i also support him and barbara 100% in their efforts against the watchtower, just not their negitive portrayl of skeptical posters and the insults. i apperciate the respectful and balanced position you are taking. i think its unfortunate that all the of skeptics are being lumped in one group. i never had an issue with the cases, my issue was with just the picture and the responses.

Cedars, can I point your attention to the 2 paragraphs included in the apology? can you not see after reading this why some of us would be pissed off?

Personally attacking me over my standing up for the children does not wash away your liability, your guilt, or your sharing in the sins of others, if you yourself did nothing and chose to side with those who had a valid charge brought against them both within the religion of Jehovah’s Witnesses and within the courts. You’re conscience is now either accusing you or excusing you. It will never acquit you. Take a good hard look at the face of the child in the above picture and then take a look at yourself in the mirror. There is such a thing as community fault if the community denies judgment."

he apologises and then says those who took issue with the picture were "attacking him" and want to have abuse victims remain facelesss among other things. Just because you did something good, and he did do something good and deserves props for that, that doesnt give a person liscence to go off on people who brought up a legit point.

i am more pissed off by the reaction to steven being caught about the picture. if him and his associates (barbara anderson, rick fearon,etc) simply apologised and left it at that, then i'd have no problem. but instead we get insulted, told we are "negitive" and we have "community guilt", and that those who "attacked" steven over the picture really just want the victims of child abuse to remain faceless. i mean, THAT shit pisses me off and makes me speak out even more. plus, its sad that people who have done great things have stooped to the level of rick fearon and used watchtower fallacy debate tactics against people who pointed out that picture. that is not right, and im not standing for it. i dont stand for it with the watchtower, and im sure as hell not going to stand for it with anyone else. i dont care what your stature is in the ex-jw community.

he always said that the opp had the right to do exactly what it did.. the cases are/were real.

He was caught in a lie about the picture. it is amazing that we are insulted, told we are "eating our own", called "negitive", told we are part of the problem of covering up child rape, and that we share in the same in as pedofiles, all becaus we would not accept what is a complete 100% bullshit excuse for the picture. it totally reminds me of rick fearon and the insults he hurled upon people once they discovered that Johnny the bethelite was fake.

were the cases real? yes. did uthank do a good thing in trying to bring watchtower to justice? yes. did uthank lie about the picture he posted? yes.did he then attack those who pointed it out? yes.

just becaue you did some good doesnt give you licence to lie, and to attack people like us who called him on it.

i dont know whats more insulting, being told i have community guilt for the pedofile problem or to be told "since he didnt say it was a picture, but merely an "image". i mean, where did that get ripped out of, watchtower debate tactics 101 right next to "the governing body is not spirit inspired, they are spirit directed".
