  Hello and welcome. If it helps, my wife and I are a success story where we both left the faith at about the same time early last year. I was the first to leave, and it was difficult at first. She became even more spiritual and made sure to get to all meetings and do a lot more service.

  However, I would bring up little things about why it's not the truth, and slowly it sunk in, but very slowly at first.

  What worked for my wife is she on her own researched the history of the WTS on Wikipedia (non-Apostate site), and the crazy past just doesn't show how it could be the truth. This really put a lot of doubts in her head, and made it easier for her to open up her mind.

  i came on jwd a year ago tomorrow, having realized that jws were not the truth, quite painfully, on march 29, 2008. i was here within a week, and within 2 months i was officially dad by my congregation.. ever since joining, i have never actually wrote down a comprehensive look at why i left the organization.

  what doubts caused me to leave?

  why did a gilead grad leave what i once considered so precious?.

  i live in a semi large city.

  200,000 + residents.

  just found out the other day from a friend that 3 congregations are merging down to 1!

  Here in Raleigh, NC, (high growth area) the "remarkable growth" is from transplants probably from areas like yours with declines. They rave about the growth but there are very few true new ones found at the door. Just moved from other areas.

  I love how the punishment for being spiritually weak is to take away your 'priviladges', giving you less reason to make the meetings. I slowly had my few priviladges taken away early during my fade, and it helped me leave! Thanks brothers!

  What they should do it the opposite. If you're weak, you NEED to be involved to build you back up. If the brothers would have done that, I may have never faded...

  i recently met a woman here at work (a contractor) and discovered she is an ex-jw.

  eventually we got around to telling why each of us left the religion.

  she said the main reason for her was not doctrines, but because she was tired of the physical and emotional abuse she received.

  Holy crap! As much as I wanted to spank my kids when they were bad during the meetings I felt 1) They weren't bad considering being locked down in a chair for 2 hours, and 2) I didn't want them to associate spanking misery with meetings. So I usually just let them play in the back room.

  i have two df'd friends...one gay....and they are both going back to meetings to be reinstated.

  one has a serious drinking problem and he feels the jw life with friends and family again will help him with the drinking (i would drink even more!

  )....he has some doubts, but believes a lot of it.. the gay friend you would think is full of holy spirit!....i thought from prior discussions she thought it was all bs....but nope, he has just always felt he was an evil sinner and wants a better relationship with god and to be with family....proven it to their self that it is full of lies?

  Sometimes the comfort of what you know is enough to bring you back. The WT mind control is strong, and sometimes being away is tough, and it's just more comfortable to go back.

  No. After questioning the JWs, I questioned and researched everything from the ground up, including the Bible, and to open my mind to reconsider everything I grew up to believe.

  After a lot of reading and learning, I have come to the conclusion that the Bible is a book of myths. Religion was created by man for man to explain the unexplainable, provide justifications for his actions, hope for his future, and control over others. I want no part of that and live a good life without religion and the fear of any gods' punishments.

  i guess i lean more towards an agnostic point of view; though if asked, i will still identify myself as a christian.

  why, i'm not really sure if i'm honest with myself.

  it all boils down to how i feel about the earth and all of the inhabitants thereon.

  Exactly! It's not either/or. Being Atheist just means there is no known proof of a creator (and creation in itself is not proof). It doesn't mean you have to believe in the big bang theory or evolution.
