  How did you get through mind numbing meetings?

  as an elder, i used to find a legitimate reason to wander.

  My wife and I used to look through the Bible and point out any words that could be taken sexually.  Here are some examples I quickly pulled out of a few random scriptures online:

  Breast, eat, for the word harass I'd block "har" to show "ass", came, rim, flesh, bowing down, pillar, fertile, stiffened, hard, slave, lay, wood, etc etc

  It was a challenge to see how obscure we could be to find more words.  It's amazing how many words you could quickly pick out when you're bored and have a devious mind

  Is shunning effective?

  make the person repent?.

  deter others from committing similar offenses in the future?.

  If the goal is to keep "furthering the kingdom message" then it's a total failure.  My mom shuns me. Won't talk to me, avoids being in the same room as me, and avoids even looking at me if we are in the same room. (Loving provision right?)

  Does it make me change? Absolutely not. If anything it proves to me what a cult they are, and confirms my issues with them. 

  Worse, I've told this story to many people. These people will all think of this if we talk to a JW. Can you imagine how much of an anti-witness my mom has done by shunning? I bet all her unintended anti-witnessing actually more than makes up for any positive results she sees preaching. A net loss. 

  We know, as said, it's about information control. And for that, yes it works. With a closed mind that won't communicate with me, she will never hear my side of the story.

  I dressed up as a Mormon for a pub crawl and had SUCH a blast. Everyone knew immediately I was a Mormon and had fun with it. I doubt many would recognize a JW.

  there's an interest point raised by stephen letts at around the 7 minute mark of the intro video;.

  much of the equipment used to build the studio was made available by donation.

  he twice mentions (once at the start of the video) the need for "support", which we can assume means donations.

  I flat out don't believe that it took 2 months versus 1 1/2 years. That's way too much of a difference. Who is this guy they quoted? There HAS to be more the the story. If it's true, then there has to be a logical (likely business) reason besides "Jehovah's blessing".

  For one thing, the WT has free labor and can throw bodies at things. They also have money and may have thrown excessive money at it. It's quite possible a real studio would intentionally plan ahead and take longer to be more effective with resources and costs. Real studios may not be in such a rush as what was stated with the WT, and maybe it's normal to plan ahead and take a little more time.

  Name Some Things That JWs Look Down Upon That Normal People Wouldn't Even Think About?

  jws look down on others for saying, "bless you" if someone sneezes.

  it has something to do with the demons.

  another example is that it is considered satanic if a man took his hat off for a lady!

  College. I recently told a friend about the Witness stance on college. How it's Satan's tool to pull people into immorality and drugs. They looked at me like I was crazy. It was had to believe.

  Here's another one that always threw me. I grew up in a Polish family in Chicago. Birthdays and Weddings (or other great milestones like an anniversary) always sing a great fun happy traditional song called "Sto Lat". It literally means "100 years". It implies "live a long happy life". That's it in the song. Live a long happy life. No mention of birthdays, Christmas, nothing!

  Well, the JWs get their panties in a bunch. Why wish only 100 years? You have everlasting life. So they treat this innocent song as if it's a song of Satan. They will NOT sing it, and will look down, and get all haughty about these poor people wishing only 100 years. Meanwhile everyone else is singing it wishing the best for those at the event. No one else would have any clue as to why this is a bad song.

  I refused. To me it was insulting to my intelligence to parrot verbatim out of a paragraph written at a fifth grade level. I would only comment if somehow I could insert a commentary or some kind of thinking, but that was becoming more and more frowned upon. Needless to say I commented very Rarely.

  How long did you know TTATT while attending the meetings?

  Not long, maybe 5 months. I learned TTATT in December 2007 and my last meeting was the Sunday meeting where they announced the end of book studies at home. I actually was eager to go to that meeting Knowing that announcement was coming (thanks to our apostate friends who leaked it months early) and it just confirmed that this was all a hoax. Never been since.

  Now on a related note, my wife also stopped within 6 or 7 months I learned TTATT And also stopped and never been since. For those of you with spouses still in, never give up. I was just very logical about why I was leaving, and kept emotion out. What was huge for her was researching the history of Russell and Rutherford on Wikipedia. That was a trusted neutral third party, and quickly she realized what I was saying was right and that the JWs were just amother crazy religion.

  Blood doctrine discussed on popular TV program this morning in Poland

  so my wife watched one of the morning talk shows today (questions for breakfast) after seeing an advertisement on tv yesterday about why jw's dont' accept blood.

  she thought it was going to be a presentation by someone from bethel but it ended up featuring a disfellowshipped jw that stated the jws were a sect and individuals did not make this choice of their own free will.

  i wasn't watching, just listening from the other room.

  Maybe Armageddon arrived invisibly...
