Nope. I believe at best it has a 'placebo' affect for those who do believe in it.

JC question: Do you accept the FDS as God's organization?
by MrMonroe inmy wife and i had stopped going to meetings in april; in december of that year we travelled interstate and stayed with the witness couple who had "brought me into the truth".
we had already told them we'd quit meetings and there was a certain tension in the air for the first couple of days until sunday morning, when, over a breakfast that eventually lasted several hours, they began to interrogate us about why we had left.
had we been stumbled?

My wife had a similar situation... She was on the phone with a friend, and mentioned her struggles and doubts, and within minutes of the conversation the girl says "So do you still say you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses?".
WTF? No love, no comfort, just a hard-lined question to see where you stand.
JW's are trained to avoid any doubt or people with doubts, so questions like these I think make it easier for them to immediately shun you.
There is not true love in the organization.

Front Load Washers. Are they good?
by Iamallcool ini have been thinking about getting front load washer for my home, but i have not decided which brand, etc to get.
any recommendations?.
-

I have a Bosch front loader, which is supposed to be a high end washer. It does a good job washing, but it is a total PAIN when it comes to worrying about mold smells. If you close the door when it's wet inside, either with clothes after laundering, or after you take the clothes out, it will eventually smell with mold.
After about 2 years I had to take mine apart and wash the hoses and plastic parts because they were covered in mold and smelled. Fortunately haven't had much of a problem since, but we're good about keeping the door open until it totally dries.
Just stinks to pay $800 for a washe then having to always worry about mold and smells.
BUT what I love about it, is that it's very quiet! Besides the spin cycle you bare can hear it running. To me this is a very important feature!

New exJW Pamphlet to leave with Bible Studies
by jwfacts inrecently someone asked for a pamphlet to leave with a neighbour that started studying with jws.
i noticed that they was not a lot available, so have put together something.
please let me know your opinion and any errors.

Jwfacts, I love the concept of the pamphlet... my first suggestion is that it needs to be less wordy. You have to assume people will scan this over and not read every point, so fewer words but with bigger impact would be good. I am in sales, and this is just like a Powerpoint presentation, where 'less is more', meaning with toom much words you can lose people.
I'd be glad to help out with content if you'd like. Please let me know, I have a knack for this kind of stuff...

OR, they believe their own propaganda that this is all controlled by god, and are just going with it. They may have NO CLUE why it's going up, but are waiting for their own 'new light' to explain it.
Sometimes I feel like we give the GB too much credit... I feel like they are clueless and are making this all up as they go, in what is sincere in their eyes.

I find it very hard to believe in a god
by Newborn inbut i find it equally hard to believe in the evolution theory .
so for now, i chose not to believe in anything but myself and love.
that was all.

I agree with you that sometimes I have a hard time stomaching Evolution too. I think the reason that so many people do is that Evolution is in one way simple, in another very very complex and hard to grasp. Where creation simply says "god did it", end of story, (which is why I think most people pick the path of least resistance known as Creationism) Evolution has books upon books explaining details, such as fossil records, DNA, etc. (and I in no way claim to be an expert here). People spend their lives researching just aspects of evolution, like biologists and geologists.
I think the other reason Evolution may be hard to grasp is simply that we are raised with creationist beliefs, especially as JW's. So all our lives we are taught that God created everything by design, and everything HAS to have a designer, and now the idea that a life form could have evolved slowly over millions of years can be very hard to grasp.
The beauty of Evolution (versus Creationism) is that all evidence found in the world supports Evolution, and nothing shows evidence against it. Even better, scientists are open minded and are always looking for more evidence to disprove their theories, meaning knowledge is always growing.
I thought "The Blind Watchmaker" by Dawkins was good at explaining some concepts of Evolution.
I am still open-minded enough that it's not just A or B, Creation or Evolution. Never know if there are other possibilities. Great thing is that science is looking for those other possibilities.

DEMONS
by Band on the Run ingrowing up in the fifties and sixties, stories of demonic possession were prevalant in the watchtower and awake.
i was terrified.
we were told they would bother you if you were faithful, but also if you fell away.
-
Robert7
Demons are like the monsters in Monsters Inc. They only "bother" you if you believe in them. Notice how no one who doesn't believe in demons ever gets bothered by them. They are just part of our imaginations.
Now in your case, you obviously are suffering from a lifetime of WT fear-mongering, so that's a different story... sorry to hear what you are going thru... To me the biggest thing is to keep reminding yourself that they don't exist, but I know it's not always that easy.

Birthdays not mentioned in the new elder's handbook
by Robert7 ini just noticed this today when i was replying to another thread.
the new elders handbook doesn't even mention the word birthday, even though there's a big detailed chapter on offences requiring a judicial committee.. is it possible that celebrating birthdays is officially, according to the 'law', allowed?
i can see this being the case, where technically you're allowed to, but you would just get judged like crazy..
-

The writers are crafty in their words, and there's a reason birthdays are not mentioned. I just wonder if basically it's ok if you're not sharing the fact that you did it.

Good point... just very weird that it's Satanism in one book, and not even mentioned in the elders manual.
