Don't forget that a good percentage of those baptised are family/children, so the average hours per baptism of new converts, and therefore cost, is probably quite a bit higher!

Businesses have a known customer acquision cost. This is the cost of advertising, subsidies, etc. it takes to add one new customer. A bank may spend $200 total, on average, to acquire a single new customer.
Now let's take the WTS. In 2010, 1.6 Billion hours are spent to acquire 294,000 new members. This is an average of 5450 hours per member.
Think about that, 5450 hours! There is a cost in those hours. Opportunity cost, time that could have been spent doing other things, even working. Plus costs with travel, gas, etc. Let's place some values on the hourly cost, low, medium, and high:
- 5450 hours x $2/hr = $10,900
- 5450 hours x $5/hr = $27,250!!
- 5450 hours x $7.25/hr (minimum wage) = $39,500!!
Talk about the most inefficient acquisition cost! In the US at a time value of minimum wage, this would be $40,000 per new publisher!
Imagine if they used these resources to real advertising!

Atheism, the absence of someone to pray to.
by cyberjesus ini was talking several days ago with a believer who was telling me what an atheist is.
i personally do not have any gods, therefore i consider myself an atheist.
however this person was telling me that an atheist says there is no god.

It's funny how you'd be considered insane to believe in Santa, who makes presents, knows if you're naughty/nice, flies around delivering presents.
But belief in GOD? Of course it makes sense. He made all matter and life, knows if you've been naughty/nice, and is everywhere answering prayers.

JW MIL having surgery - Elders there are the "blood nazis"
by Robert7 inso my jw mother-in-law is having some rather major abdominal surgery today.
given the type of surgery, there is a chance that the blood issue may come up, where in worst case if there's a loss of blood she may need a transfusion.. so in the waiting room for the entire 3 1/2 hour surgery are two elders.
these guys don't know my mil that well, and they are not there to support her... when it comes down to it:.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I just hate how the JWs make such an issue of blood. Took such a focus, plus added so much more unnecessary stress.

If she is angered by you saving her life, at least you have a living angry mother.
I totally agree! How could anyone hate you for saving them, especially when they don't want to die? The only exception I can think of is if saving them leaves them in some horrible condition, like crippled, where dying maybe was a better option.

She didn't ask for the elders... they just showed up.
She does have a blood POA that does outline her wishes including avoiding a blood transfusion.
Fortunately she only has 1 daughter, my wife, who is no longer a JW. She has a POA for everything non-blood related.
So the elders are there to ensure the blood transfusion wishes are followed, and that my wife, god forbid, tries to save her life.

Could ''boredom'' at the Kingdom Hall be one reason why some members leave?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inyou'll find boredom where there is the absence of a good idea earl nightingale quotes (us motivational writer and author, 1921-1989).
let's forget that most members leave due to the wrong beliefs, doctrines and practices of the wts!.
i was bored out of my mind from the repetitive: talks, prayers, ministry school demonstrations, field service talks(peddle magazines),assemblies, special talks and watchtower magazine study articles.

The boredom for me indirectly helped me leave. It is boring because for example the same topics repeating over and over again also the many Meetings talking about meetings.
So these reasons for the boredom opened up my mind. Why repeat such simple topics over and over? Is this true worship as they say? Why did I spend 2 hours getting myself and the family ready for this? This is so unfullfilling.
So over time my mind broke out of the cult because of this boredom.

On top of that, they are sitting in the lobby in suits (who wears a suit to the hospital waiting room, let alone 2 guys), sticking out like a sore thumb, and reading their bibles for the full 3 1/2 hours. All for show. All I see is cult! cult! cult!
And to add insult to injury, my MIL was never informed they would be there. So they just show up so they can ensure she dies in the event she needs a transfusion to live.

This is disgusting and makes me sick to even think about it....

Obessed with organizational growth?
by sabastious init could be argued that the jehovah's witness religion is obessed with it's own growth.
what kind of non-profit organization puts general growth in such high esteem?
non-profit companies are suppose to have a mission; a purpose.

For being so obsessed with growth, their 2-4% yearly growth is pathetic.
