I appreciate you posting that. My parents were sort of the opposite of yours in that they were so sure about '75 that they waited to have kids. My brother was a '76 baby (they wasted no time) and I was a '78 baby. My parents were in their thirties which was kind of late but they were so sure about '75 that they didn't want their offspring to see this system of things.

My memory of the 1975 fiasco (born in 1970)
by Lady Zombie indrew sagan posted this fine thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/160876/1.ashx in which a few people remarked that hardly anyone under the age of 40 even knows about the 1975 failed prediction.. i was born in 1970 and i do remember the 1975 fiasco.
for what it's worth, here are my memories and how it was explained to me.. late in 1968 my parents decided to have me because, like many other jws, they thought that i would never have to deal with the world or go to school.
they carefully planned to have me during the year of 1970 because they didn't want to go through armagedon with an infant, so they figured if i was 5 years old, i would be old enough to run, feed myself, and at least know enough to take shelter from the elements or hide.

i just signed up my daughter for day camp at a local church... they have daycamp, they have a music school, they have preschool, they have girlscouts, boyscouts, moms night out, family night, orchestra at the services.... the list goes on!!!.

Notice they said the "modern history" as in there is an ancient history of JWs as well.. If I remember right though, they denounce Catholism's claims to apostolic succession when they in fact have records that date back many hundreds of years showing their 'lineage'.

Some of the stuff that gets by when fuck or shit doesn't is funny. "Get Low" by Lil' Jon speaks of the sweat dropping down his balls. And that same song also speaks of "skeeting" which is.. well you can look it up. I once saw this 12ish White kid with his Ipod on, singing about skeeting.. it was quite disturbing.

Don't blame the dubs for everything. I tested as "gifted" in elementary school and was sent to a "gifted contained" school. My parents (the elder and regular pioneer) thought this was a great idea. We had intensive Spanish classes and high level math.. in 5th grade!
Upon growing up, I traveled the world a bit and went to college and am currently working on my Master's degree. I have people in their 40s and 50s in class with me and the same was true when I got my undergraduate.
Don't let anything hold you back from improving yourself!
