Do you still have faith in humanity?
by lfcviking injust yesterday at the airport i dropped my wallet coming out of a shop and a very kind man picked it up and ran up to me and asked "excuse me is this yours?
" to which i gave a startled but relieved reply of "yes, thankyou very much!"..
i was amazed by his honesty & kindness for doing this deed and wondered for a moment what would have happened if he'd have put it in his pocket instead.

Do you let your dub relatives watch your kids?
by avishai inthis was mentioned on another topic but it needs it's own thread.
ok, i'm gonna say it again.
if your relatives will not speak to you.... do not let them have any contact with your children, period.

Yes I would absolutely let my JW parents and brothers watch my children (when I have them). In fact, if I ever move back home, I hope that my mother will be my children's daytime caregiver when I am at work. I certainly trust her far more than strangers, she raised me well. Since I don't want them indoctrinated in the JW belief system I will simply require that my family not take them to JW meetings or in field service nor talk to them about religion. It's not a big deal. If they don't follow those simple rules then they will only see the children while supervised. My family is not sneaky nor would they disrespect me as a parent. Besides all that I don't feel like my religious upbringing was some horrifying experience and even if my children learn about the JWs I already plan to have an open-minded, humanist foundation for them to build on. Most often grandchildren open the relationship back up. Yes, some parents are stupid for cutting off their children, but most of us followed the exact same belief system until we were given a good enough reason to bend and then eventually break the rules. Grandchildren can be a way to regain what was lost.

Cip- Black Americans need a Black candidate to be happy? Many polls have shown that Black Americans are more in support of Clinton than Obama. (Of course I don't necessarily trust polls). http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/17/poll.blacks.democrats/index.html

Bav- What you just said makes me like the guy even more! Gregor- "Obama has a convenient skin color. If he was a Republican he would be trashed by most of you." And your point is? I think you are saying: I support Obama because of his politics, not his race. That's true.

Hubert- So what? My parents are extremist JWs but that certainly doesn't affect how I go about doing things in my life. Why should Obama's father's religion be a factor? I read that he went to Christian schools while living in Indonesia a primarily Islamic country. Not that that is any better to me. I'd prefer to see an Agnostic/Athiest President but that'll never happen. As for the not saluting the flag (ONCE), I don't think that equates with being a bad leader. It's for show anyway.

Givers and Takers
by wanderlustguy ini had a teacher in jr. high in my advanced education class talk about givers and takers as a subject.
looking back, perhaps she was going through a rough patchmakes me wonder.. this morning i had one of those moments of realization, basically from reviewing recent events, and even more so because i was mentally rehashing some conversations with someone who means a lot to me.
it dawned on me the role she has come to play in one of the major events of her life, as well as who she became because of it.

I don't think anyone is 100% Giver or Taker. If so, I have no clue which one I am.. Which kind of freaks me out.. maybe that's how Takers feel..

If Hillary becomes president.......
by lavendar ini heard this question the other day, and it really started me thinking...... if hillary wins the election, how are all these arab nations and presidents going to relate to a woman president??
i mean women, in general, are looked down upon and have no authority in the arab world.
won't having a woman president put us in a dangerous position??

Atheists - What is the meaning of life?
by Paralipomenon inpersonally i am a agnostic with a complete rejection of a personal god.
without the concept of salvation my belief structure states that when i die, very likely that is it.
no amount of good or bad deeds will extend my life past the point of my death.

The purpose of life is survival of the species. That is our ultimate purpose as with all other life. It is the only roundabout form of immortality.
