An experienced Witness ought to know when to "take note of counsel" and when to ignore it because an elder (or busybody sister) is just spouting a personal opinion, which may be ignored..

I remember feeling that way when an Elder told us not to watch Schindler's List when it aired on television...hubby and I had already seen the movie, and I thought that the movie was historically significant.
At the time, I thought that the Society was being a wee bit ridiculous. Now I realize that they are massive control freaks.

and then how they insult the young people.

Ah, poor Flipper, it's completely understandable that he becomes bitter occasionally. It's a wonder that he hasn't been driven insane by the whole situation . You're dealing with the same set of circumstances as well, Vinny. It's a marvel that any of us can function after having the cult steal away our loved ones.

i have been lurking in the shadows for a while now i just got my account from the fine administrators of this board.
i have really enjoyed reading the well thought out comments and critiques of the wts doctrine.. i have been around the wts since i was 5 i left for a while during high school got to live a little worldly/normal life then got sucked back in.
my wife has been raised in the truth and even though weve been inactive (for a while now), she still has thoughts about the earthly hope and seeing her grandparents some day.

Congratulations on reclaiming your life. Remember, the WTS has set things up so it will be difficult for a former member to function outside its parameters.
However, since you still have faith, you can put that faith directly in Jesus.

jehovahs witnesses (jw) are taught to never listen to a word, or read an article by those who have left their former faith.
any critical information is viewed as poisonous to your faith.
it will kill your faith.
So as a JW, you are allowed to totally try to destroy another persons faith going door to door, using nothing but WT material. Yet, you are practically banned from reading anything critical about your own beliefs, offered in a similar manner?...If it’s the truth you have, would it really destroy your faith? Is it so weak?

i have lost everything.. i am a third generation jw on both sides of my family.
all of my family is in full time service, pioneers, elders, cos, international construction, anointed and gb.
The WORLD...
The JWs would have you believe that world is a frightening place...and sometimes it is. Especially when you've been living existing in cultic isolation for decades.
But it is also the place where the rest of humanity lives. It is the place where Jesus talked and taught, went to parties, fed people...you know the rest.
You live here too, Apocryphal. So go out into the world, and this time, really meet your neighbors!
Go to school.
Pick up a new hobby.
Become a teacher.
Get involved in your community. Or move to another, and get involved there.
Learn a new trade.
The point is not to be isolated any more. Go out and make a new life for yourself.
Remember, you're not alone. Your existence, your feelings, your life, they are important to us. We who have lost loved ones to the cult know what you're going through. We'll always be here to support you.
And pray for your family, as Mrs. Fiorini suggested, so they may see the real 'light' . Don't forget to pray for yourself as well; for guidance, and peace of mind.
