as we all know the wt has a special way of treating famous jws, becuase it puts them squarely on the horns of a dilemma.

Michael Jackson was not put out of the organization. He wrote a letter of disassociation. His fall from popularity had little to do with his leaving the J-dubs, but had more to do with the controversy surrounding his interest in young boys.
I don't know that the tennis-playing Williams sisters are even baptized as JW's. I know they are believers, but if they're not baptized -- then the WTS can really do little or nothing to them. If one or both of them are baptized, I'd say they just need to keep their generous donations coming in, and as long as they don't commit an actual crime, the WTS would look the other way. How famous they continue to be after their playing careers are over is largely up to them. They have several career choices that could keep them in the spotlight if they so choose.

"you may call it something else," clouse said, but for area utilities, the main byproduct of human waste - methane gas - will soon be converted into natural gas to burn in their power plants.. the city approved a deal where massachusetts-based ameresco inc will convert the city's biosolids into natural gas, which could generate about 1.5 million cubic feet per day, he said.. methane gas, which is a byproduct of human and organic waste, is a principal component of the natural gas used to fuel furnaces, power plants, and other combustion-based generators.. "the private vendor will come onto the facility, construct some gas cleaning systems, remove the moisture, remove the carbon dioxide content, and then sell that gas on the open market," clouse said.. the gas will be sold to power generators, he said.. some communities are using methane gas harvested from solid waste to power smaller facilities like sewage treatment plants, but san antonio is the first to see large-scale conversion of methane gas from sewage into fuel for power generation, he said.. following the agreement, more than 90 percent of materials flushed down the toilets and sinks of san antonio will be recycled, he said.

What's the point of the preaching work, if Jehovah can read hearts and doesn't need JW's to go out and expose people's heart condition?
The point is to keep the JW "publishers" on a treadmill, so that they can be judged by how fast they run on the treadmill, and to keep them from having the time to have a real life.

aren't they due to start getting them riled up again?
Why is 33.5 years significant? The speculation goes that Jesus was 33.5 years old when he died which could have reflected Adam sinning at the same age since the ransom was a perfect one.

I seriously doubt we'll see a full-on promotion of the year 2034, such as F.W. Franz instigated for 1975 starting in the late 1960's.
We kept hearing "what will the 1970's bring", and about "remaining years/months in this old system". I seriously doubt that in this information age they'll commit such predictions to print.
However they will drop little hints that the R-and-F will pick up, but then after 2034 comes and goes with no Armageddon, they'll deny deny deny.
I don't think that the majority here are atheist, but we are well-represented here. There is a cross-section of believers of many stripes here, atheists, and those who really don't care to discuss beliefs at all.
I'm not an active JW, I'm on their files as Disfellowshipped.
So... knowing that the boards are monitored by JW heavies, sometimes the best I can do is expose them here (and to my friends and relatives in real life).

I think the emphasis on 40 years back then was largely due to the miscalculated date of 1874, when compared to their "end of the Gentile times" date of 1914.
That 40 years was replaced by the "short time remaining" between when Satan was supposedly thrown out of heaven in 1914 and the coming end, supposedly around 1975. I don't think they have any way to incorporate another 40-year theory into their theology.
They have been dropping hints of 120 years -- involving Noah's "time of the end" between when Jehovah supposedly gave him instructions for building the ark and the legendary flood.
So if the time of the end started in 1914, the average JW can do the math and see that the time of the end would logically extend to 2034. But the WTS hasn't put that date in print. They don't need to. They just needed to drop the 120-year-time-of-the-end hint into a couple of Watchtower studies, and voila, their followers would pick up a new sense of urgency!!! Woohoo.
