once people figure out they have been duped by religion....what will they REPLACE it with?
Something else just as nutty?
Hopefully not. Hopefully humanity will embrace rational philosophy in its place.
To quote Christopher Hitchens, "Religion ends and philosophy begins, just as alchemy ends and chemistry begins, and astrology ends and astronomy begins."

You won't believe where that $700-billion bailout figure came from
by BurnTheShips inyou won't believe where that $700-billion bailout figure came fromhere's something that john mccain and barack obama and sarah palin and even longtime washingtonian joe biden probably don't know.
not to mention bob barr, ralph nader and ron paul, who usually knows everything.. it's a fascinating footnote to the economic and political bailout debate that's kept so many people from more properly focusing on the pennant races and the colts' problems in the last week.
(incidentally, do you think we'd have had this big fight if president bush had called it a "rescue" plan instead?).

I heard that "story" too.
This number is part of the problem in getting any action done. If they had said, we'll do this in installments -- $150 bilion or $200 billion at a time, and watch the results -- maybe this would be more palatable to the Americans who are unsure of all this.

Other ex-JW sites are listed below. The first one's members are mainly non-JWD people, but it's the second largest ex-JW forum and it's about 4 years old.
The other two are newer, springing up in response to this site's impending finale. The 'recovery' site is for support, the 'support forum' site is mainly for ex-JW chatter.

What can we learn from the Jehovahs Witnesses?
by digderidoo inhe does not want to hear negative things about jw, so i would not know what to say.

You can learn how to control people, break up families, take away childhoods, endure boring meetings, how to believe conflicting things simultaneously.
These and many other useless skills can become yours by closely observing the WT Society and its followers.
You can also learn how to make great deals on real-estate by posing as a charity, and how to twist freedom-of-speech laws to your benefit but against your former members.

Who are you?
by Brother Apostate inwho are you?.
they're the people who walk by obliviously, having trained themselves to not pay attention to details.. they're the people who read books but never read between the lines to see the big picture.. they're the people who watch movies, only paying attention to the obvious, missing the powerful story within the story.. they're the people who merely see the surface, never the 30,00 foot view.. they're the people who can't see the forest for the trees.. they're the people who never correlate history to what unfolds before our eyes in modern times.. they're the people who are forever controlled by group pressure and their wallet or pocketbook, who won't open their eyes to understand that the masses are easily led to their own downfall, that temporary discomfort for the right cause can produce great freedom from oppression and a new lease on life.. they're the people who never put it together to understand the big picture, and scoff at those who do.. they're the majority.. ba- and that's the way the wealthy elite want to keep it.. ps- who are you?.

Sad to say, too many people have a very short attention span these days. Everything is sped up, people want instant gratification and satisfaction.
A secret to success is to take things slowly, pay attention to the details -- live life fully, try to get it right the first time.
If people don't pay attention to details, they can be easily deceived to their own harm. Also I'll take your example about movies -- people who just want constant action and conflict -- rather than good stories, cheat themselves out of truly meaningful and enjoyable entertainment.
I think though, that as people gain experience and age -- they do slow down and take in more of life.
I'm hoping that the 'majority' you talk about becomes a 'minority' when they reach, maybe age 60+ . (Wishful thinking?)

Judge Rutherford: it's OK to say "God damn" (Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire)
by Olin Moyles Ghost inin the u.s., the first amendment prohibits the government from abridging freedom of speech.
of course, there are some exceptions, such as obscenity and the classic example of falsely shouting "fire!
" in a crowded theater.

Ghost, thanks for bringing that case to light. I'd never heard of it before, while a JW or here on the forum.
Chaplinsky (an Eastern-European version of the "little tramp"?) sounds like a man after Rutherford's heart, cursing and swearing at opposers of the almighty Watchtower. No wonder Rutherford was moved to take his case all the way up the ladder.
I remember reading in the Theocratic Ministry School Guidebook (published in 1971) that we JW's shouldn't even use euphemisms -- like gosh, golly and gee.

After I use that electric razor, it's Aqua Velva for me. It's very refreshing.
I've heard there's "something about an Aqua Velva man".

Estee, not really. We're in the "last days" of this site as it is currently constituted and run by Simon. The end is "around the corner".
A "great crowd" have fled to other sites, and we have a "remnant" still here.
Simon has ended new registrations -- " no more inners ". So it's a little party till the end of the year for those still hanging out here.

HATS OFF
by tijkmo inremember at quick builds whenever a prayer was being said everyone was told to remove their hard hats and cooking hats etc,.
even if you were in the middle of doing something important or dangerous.. so was there some kind of divine intervention stopping gravity during a prayer.. and would there have been any compensation to anyone hit during a prayer..

Jehoober's there to protect them, if they're not already hard-headed enough to survive when a blunt object fell on their head!
And, don't forget the resurrection hope!
