i totally appreciate the posters who have a ton of bible knowledge and love research, but me being a witness for a few decades find myself not really interested in many of the discussions here and at the meeting.
the current "grace/undeserved kindness" post by sir82 is a prime example.. first off i do know that my personality is to be sceptical about most things, and i usually focus on things that i can see or are more simple, especially if it is a topic i am less interested in.. but am i bad because i don't really care if jesus died on a cross of stake?
or i am not interested in trying to figure out when (and if ) jehovah is going to take care of wicked people or resurrect dead people........ i kind of figure we will find out when it happens.. sometimes if feel stupid about bible things, but i take pride in trying to live by the basic bible principles and laws (about stealing, adultery, bad language, etc), although i do have a good deal of general knowledge about the bible, i could care less about breaking down the different "loves" in the hebrew language or greek language, or whatever..... i guess i have a similar knowledge of the scriptures as the "christians" before the wts "helped us figure it out" starting around 1900. .

Sooner,
Yabbut: I thought Brit was supposed to represent the "straight news" part of Fox and rather than a part of the Hannity / Beck / O'Reilly "reactionary comment" wing of the network.
Hi Beks. Just dropping in for a look-see.
Brit Hume seems to be saying Christianity is superior to Buddhism because it has a better "get out of adultery free" card. "Just join our side and we'll forgive you."
Did the Fox News watchers all nod their head in unison when Brit blathered?
I don't know where you can find the whole schedule.
The Society is too secretive and paranoid to publish much about what they're doing such as "complete schedules". However those who are sheeplike will go to the Kingdom Hall and wait patiently for the magazine to be given to them in the Society-approved time and manner. Then they can have the privilege of reading and studying the recent thoughts of Watchtower writers along with the local congregation.
The Watchtower lesson is titled "Keep Christ's Mental Attitude in You".
Blondie hasn't posted her usual comments yet. I hope she's feeling okay.
I'm sure the main theme of the study is self-sacrifice, and that JW's should find more ways to serve Jehovah the organization.
In our family the reaction was avoidance.
If it was a meeting night, avoiding the cavorters was no problem.
If Halloween fell on a non-meeting night our parents would take us to dinner and a movie. Wherever we went, people looked at me and my little sister --- not dressed up for the holiday --- and give us sympathy candy.
the new clint eastwood movie.
i watched it last night, and thought it was pretty good..
I rented it and thought it told a good story. The screenplay was written in Minnesota by someone who has intimate knowledge of the Hmong community. Because Minnesota doesn't have a movie-friendly tax environment these days, the filming was done in Michigan and the story was set in Detroit rather than Saint Paul as intended.
When I was JW I conducted multiple Bible studies with Hmong in St. Paul, so I got to know them. I found the film contained an authentic representation of their culture.
my aunt's father, a formerly life-long adherent to the apostolic church, became a witness last year.. i just learned he went to the last assembly and died.
tripped and hit his head on an armrest.. i'm waiting for the next round of email that talks about jehovah protecting his people with guardian angels.
maybe he missed the memo that this guy was entitled to divine intervention..
Sorry to read this news, VE.
Although W. Once's point is valid, the counterpoint is that had he NOT converted and had a fatal accident, the JW relatives would have thought it's good that he died because, unlike VE, your aunt's Father will now be eligible for resurrection. With them its "Head we win tails you lose".
a couple days ago i started having these flashbacks of back in the day when i was 17 or so and was a frequent outgoing public speaker.
believe it or not back then i was so naive in the fullest sense of the word, and none of the signs that i encountered then kicked in until years later.. i obviously could go on and on about the impressions and demeanor that i received from the big shots (elders, ms's) from these halls.
a couple that i remember were for ex., one time while visiting a congregation in southwest co i politely waited around to see if any of the elders or a head of a house hold would approach me and invite me for hospitality and tired of waiting around i decided to make that 5 hour solo trip back home.
I gave several talks, and almost always got taken out for a lunch or something. The best times were when somebody had me over to their house. But I never really felt that I got to be close to anyone, except for this really nice elderly couple who lived in Wisconsin.
I started to ask every Sunday at our hall "who has speaker HOSTILITY today"? It always got a laugh.
