Okay Yadirf/Friday I'll bite.

You implied I was dishonest, saying "surely I must be the owner and operator of a not-so-honest used car lot".

Why'd you turn the heat on me personally, and then when Farkel turned the heat on you (saying your "life is a lie" and you were an "apostate"), you whined in this fashion:

ME, me, me. Let's talk about JW.com, JW.com, JW.com ... and how that title misrepresents the facts.

If you didn't want Farkel to bash you, then why did you bash me (somebody you don't even know)?

I never posted on H2O, because by the time I got out of the JW organization and discovered these discussion boards earlier this year, H2O looked to me like a war zone, very disorganized.

Today, I merely pointed out an inconsistency in Rick's post that I didn't understand. Why did you attack ME rather than answer the point of my concern? Sheesh.

Now, as to whether this site is actually misleading or not, take a look at the following link, which is Simon's preview of how the next upgrade will look.

You will notice two key phrases here, "bulletin board service for the JW and ex-JW community", and "Any Jehovahs Witness or interested person can participate". And Simon means what he says, you can post here without fear of editing or deletion (unless you go WAY over the top). Nothing at all misleading there, eh?

There, I have given you a point-by-point, substantive answer. Or would you rather I have sunk to your level and called you dirty names? Maybe that would make you happier, but I'm not here to make you happy!

Can someone reconcile these two quotes from that H20 thread?

H2O ENCOURAGES EX-JWS TO VISIT SIMON'S BOARD WHICH IS 99% EX-JW IN DEMOGRAPHICS]

I WOULD NEVER RUN A SITE CALLED "Watchtower.com" or "Jehovahs-Witness.com" because personally I would fear it would draw JWs who genuinely believed the site was limited strictly to baptized JWs.

If the name is drawing in actual JW's, how come he said its demographics are 99% ex JW? hmmmmm.....

I think the discerning reader can figure out in a very short time reading this discussion board that it is mainly a place for, shall we say, "recovering" or "recovered" JW's.

This week for example: New poster "Glode" got it, new poster "Ashley" didn't get it, even though she said she lurked for a while.

(note: i'm baaad, not attending meetings in my new area.).

so it'd be easy to renew my subscription, right?

Hmmmm....Where exactly in here did it show how Jehovah's service is joyful? All we see in this article is advice regarding stress reduction & common-sense problem avoidance.

What a lovely gem from paragraph 19:

It is far more likely that secular or recreational activi-ties, not spiritual ones, are contributing to our fatigue. Learning to go to bed at a reason-able hour may help put us back on track.

Oh yeah, the constant spiritual treadmill has NOTHING to do with fatigue that JW's experience?

Going to bed at a reasonable time, what a concept! What are the JW's doing up so late? Hmmmmm....(They're not on the Internet, naaaah!)

Is there anyone conversant with applicable United States law who could tell us whether it would be worth taking Waiting's suggestion, that of requesting the subs via certified mail, and taking action if such subscriptions are not provided???

Trevor, welcome to the board. (We have someone else on here who goes simply by the name "Trevor" as well.) As far as your idea of hitting up the business territory, I think you'd have to be pretty fast. Those magazines have a way of getting into the "out basket" pretty fast, if you know what I mean.

Ozziepost, I had never heard of the "Club Subscription". Maybe they do things differently in Oz. Here in the United States, I believe they still mail the magazines directly to the subscribers homes.

Hippikon, thanks for the offer to scan the mags. Skimmer, did you see Hippikon's earlier post?

Francoise, LOL. You are correct, it seems like pioneers can always bump up their totals by leaving a small pile of magazines in laundromats.

Celia, I think $10 was the going rate in the United States for a subscription when they instituted the "complete donation" arrangement. They probably "expect" a little more now, due to "inflation". But of course they cannot demand it.

Reagan, I haven't picked up a magazine in a while either. I agree with the earlier posters that the main reason is to use the WTS' own information for "counter-witnessing". BTW, are you a fan of the Cleveland Indians baseball team? I am a big Minnesota Twins fan, and would like to communicate with an Indians' fan, as our teams are in an epic struggle for first place!

There are several members of this discussion board who have the same situation as you, which is to be reluctantly active in the organization because of family ties.

I moved into a new area several months ago, and my subscriptions to the Watchtower and Awake magazines expired. (Note: I'm baaad, not attending meetings in my new area.)

So it'd be easy to renew my subscription, right? I thought maybe I'd like to read the latest stuff they're saying, maybe even learn new stuff to post here, etc.

Here's the kicker: The "Renewal procedure" on the reverse side of the subscription blank says:

1. Subscriptions for The Watchtower should be submitted through a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
2. If you need further information, you may write one of the addresses below. (WT Society Offices are listed next)

Having handled subscriptions in my former congregation, I know that the Society mails all copies of all renewal slips to the nearest congregation.

I thought that the literature was to be made "freely available" to all who wish to read it! For most magazines, you mail your renewal request to a central location. But not so, for the Watchtower and Awake.

This is their way of keeping tabs on all their subscribers! The local congregation (if they follow WT Society instructions) will visit all non-members who subscribe. (What a return visit or shepherding opportunity!!) I don't really feel like having a follow-up visit. [>:(]

So, no more subscriptions for me. The information is quite repetitive anyhow. I'll find other reading (including this board) to occupy my time.
