Unbelievable Assertion!!!!!!!

we had our special assembly day this weekend.. what the district overseer stated in his talk totally stunned me, and made me feel sick to my stomach.

he said, "christ is directing us through the governing body, and we cannot get holy spirit except through them!".

i do not wish to reveal all my thoughts on his statement, but i pray to god that it acts as a wake-up call to at least some of the audience.. suffice to say that the gb is now the mediator to our mediator, and from now on, i will have to pray for holy spirit through the name of the gb!!.

Yes you are correct that before this time, the Watchtower did teach you had to come to their organization to receive salvation and *effectively* receive the benefits of holy spirit.

The main difference is that now by claiming holy spirit can only be obtained through them, they are further concentrating their follower's loyalty on them. Earlier, they said that "the truth came" through them, but you could get holy spirit by reading the scriptures (which technically could happen to anyone in or out of their organization).

Now they are doubling down by providing, without any real proof, more reason for their followers to adhere to their #1 doctrine which is loyalty to the organization.

Label Licker, it's quite apparent they are now doubling down on their teaching that started in the 1980's, that loyalty to the organization is the #1 doctrine in the organization. If you do that, apparently everything else will fall in line and you will gain Jehovah's blessing, through the organization of course.

It used to be that the "Kingdom" was the #1 doctrine, and "Satan" was the #1 enemy. Now "Loyalty to the organization" is the #1 doctrine, and "Apostates" are the #1 enemy - even scarier than Satan.

Thanks Don for this post and for all your work illustrating how JW's are captives of a concept.

This new light doesn't seem to be widely known among the rank-and-file of JW's. They did post it in their www.jw.org website in October. I suppose it doesn't matter much to the average JW anyhow - they let the Society do most of their thinking anyhow.

Sometimes lately, when I have encountered JW's on YouTube (after all, some of them think they're doing God's work by arguing with apostates like me) -- I have pointed out that the Watchtower has taught for decades that Jesus is NOT their mediator unless they're of the small anointed class of JW's -- so they might as well now pray "in the name of the Governing Body, amen" because the Governing Body has assumed the role of mediator.

When they started teaching that Jesus wasn't the mediator for all true believers but only for their little class, they were laying the groundwork for being the conduit for holy spirit.

Formerly, at least in the 80's when I was at my most active as a JW, they clearly taught that anyone could access holy spirit just by reading the Bible. One circuit overseer said that the Bible was like "frozen holy spirit" and by opening it up and meditating on it you would unfreeze the holy spirit. That illustration really stuck with me. But apparently they aren't teaching that idea in this century.

I had my first experience with ex-JW apologists in 2001 during our first "apostofest" in the state of Minnesota. If you read the account (linked below), you'll come across a couple of characters who, in the middle of a smoky bar in south Minneapolis, amongst a bunch of apostates, vigorously defended Witness doctrine while puffing on cigarettes. It was unbelievable.

Are atheists afraid of archaeology?

i have to answer this because it makes my blood boil.

this is one of the key things that trapped me in a religion for the first 30 years of my life.. we were told the archaeologists have found ur of the chaldeans, babylon, nineveh and evidence for the existence of the hittites.therefore the other things in the bible must be true.. archaeologsts have also found troy in modern day turkey.

It should be obvious to all truth-seekers that any archaeology that supports your favorite "Holy" book is true, whereas any archaeology that doesn't was planted by the Devil to deceive you!

The old teaching about the faithful slave being all the thousands of anointed "as a class" and the domestics being all the thousands of anointed "as individuals" never made any sense to me for all the decades I was a JW. However the Watchtower vigorously defended this idea without really ever explaining it properly. Of course, the change to make themselves the faithful slave is logical within their teachings - because really the so-called anointed outside of Brooklyn really never had the chance to direct what was taught to Jehovah's Witnesses as a whole.

However, for anyone to say this is just a minor doctrinal change is plain ignorant and wrong. If it was so minor, the Watchtower would have conceded the point several decades ago. It was so obvious to anyone who thought about it for a few minutes (even a child like me back in the 70's).
