"You are the connection to evil." (or, my JW sisters and me)
by Fleur inwhy is it that i have known for so long what to expect of my jw relatives, and they continue to exceed my expectations for crazy-making behavior, yet still sometimes, i am blindsided by a comment so out of left field, so removed from the way that i see my world and the way that i live my life (or try to)...why does it still hurt?.
i have posted before about my sisters.
the oldest is a pioneer and elder's wife.

Why are the world's anointed not called to Brooklyn to be Governing Body?
by free2beme inwhen i was in the witnesses, and near the end of my time in.
there was the whole new understanding, of putting non-anointed people in positions in the organization that were normally something an anointed person would be in.
i remember them mentioning that the amount of anointed was dwindling and there needed to be people in these positions of responsibility, to make sure the work continues.. after this was highlighted and all good witnesses swallowed this thinking hook line and sinker.

I suppose its questions thats been asked many times about the "anointed".
Why aren't they all at Bethel? Why aren't they all consulted about doctrine etc?
If Jehovah has chosen to "anoint" women, why don't they have a bigger role to play? After all they will be ruling in heaven.
Instead its all left to 12 old men to tell 6 million what to believe and how to live.

How much influence did the internet have on you leaving the organization?
by The wanderer inuntitled document <!-- .style1 {font-family: verdana} .style2 {font-family: verdana; font-style: italic; } --> discoveries about the organization on the internet admittedly, had it not been for the internet, and all of the dis-.
coveries that were found on it; i would still be one of jehovah's .
witnesses.

Very little. Without the internet, I would have left the organization through suicide. The internet opened up the resources and information that gave me hope, and showed me that such a drastic action was not necessary. So, the internet did not necessarily get me out of the organization, but rather, it saved my life.
Similar in a way, with me. I had attempted suicide, diagnosed Acute Clinical Depression, gone through a Judicial Committee etc, given no help or support. Learnt about WT teachings etc etc from books. But the Internet showed me that I was not the only one who had been through such things. That I was not alone.

The most annoying issues you found within the organization were ...

things that used to bother me within the organization.. for example, the time that the organization use to.
absorb, it seemed that i gave more than i received.

Well I was going to put a reply .....but after reading through all the posts I think everything I was thinking of has been covered. So it looks like we are all of the same mind and thought.
One thing that annoyed me was when they had "demonstrations" either at the KH or assemblies. They were so unrealistic.
The householder was always so nice and perfect and listened to every word the JW said. Always accepting the magazines or book.
The family having the "family study" all the children so perfect and eager to answer.
While I'm here the subject of beards was mentioned.
A friend of mine who often engages JW's in conversation when he sees them. Was talking to one a couple of weeks ago middle-aged guy.
My friend said as he was talking to him he thought there was something wrong, but couldn't think what it was.
After the JW had gone he realised what it was the JW had a BEARD!!
He said he could have kicked himself for missing it. Would have asked how come he had a beard.
My friend has been on the look out since then hoping to see the JW somewhere around.

Relationships and 'theocratic' career
by cyberdyne systems 101 indid you notice or experience the fact that to have an approved romantic relationship you had to be baptised, and for men often you would be expected to be a min servant or elder, or at the very least reaching out in the congregation.
i'm sure others had other rules such as being a pioneer or something.
its another area where you are pressured into conforming to a certain ideal - not a scriptural one but an organisational one.

Probably apart from having to be a baptised JW. Never heard of any restictions or otherwise for brothers/sister to have an "approved romantic relationship".
I was baptised Jan 1972, married JW sister July 1974, niether of us had pioneered, I wasn't "reaching out" for any position etc.
We did have a couple of sisters who considered themselves the "matchmakers" of the congregation.
But there again this is one of those things which can vary from congregation to congregation. In my congregation it was as long as you were both baptised JW's. In another the brother may have to show he is "spiritual" reaching out etc.

The Universe in a Single Atom by the Dalia Lama
by frankiespeakin ini have purchased the cd's and proceeded to listen to the first one and then skipped to disc 3. i would highly recomend these cds.
he has had many prolonged visits with many of the top scientist.
it is interesting to hear what he says on dic 3 where he covers evolution and consciousness, very insightful.. 20 bucks for 5 cds is a steal if you ask me.. http://www.amazon.com/universe-single-atom-convergence-spirituality/dp/0739322656/ref=ed_oe_a/102-9192297-3846537?ie=utf8.

Baptisms (WT legal contract) null and void
by Sacchiel inis there any truth that people under the age of eighteen cannot be held under a legal contract (which is what the wt views baptism as, a legally binding document to the society)?
the result would be that individual cannot be disfellowshiped since that person was underage and above all, never even signed a document.
is this applicable in the us at least?.

I was on day off from work at home.
Just happened to put radio on and it just said they had reports of plane may have hit WTC.
Put TV on -SKY News- couple minutes later saw the other plane hit the tower.
I just sat there all afternoon watching it in disbelief.

Had a visit today from my youngest daughter (17) a non-JW. Lives with her JW mother.my wife.
The circuit had their assembly last weekend. Her mother told her they had 12 baptised. I thought "not bad" considering at one assembly last year they had none.
Then my daughter said, the oldest one was 16 , the average age was 14. Of course all were children of JW's.
I can just hear it now "Isn't it wonderful brothers/sisters that these young ones are putting their trust in Jehovah."
I wonder how many of them will be still active JW's when they are 20+.
