So has the wt given up on prophecy altogether or what?

for decades they've produced massive tomes on their own peculiar brand of wt-centric prophecy, but it seems like the production of prophecy-related material as of late has slowed to a trickle, their last prophecy-related book that i can recall was the minor-prophets book released a few years back.

however that book if i recall was very vague in its exposition, focusing on daily life application rather than eschatology.

and yet the armageddon-end-times-obedience-"generation" drumbeat grows faster and louder with less and less exposition as to how or when exactly any of this is supposed to play out.

Harry Belafonte at 83 still active for Justice

one of the people i admired the most growing up was harry belafonte.

he used his talent as an actor and singer to bring attention to the need for justice among all peoples.

at 83 he is still going strong with a new film showing at the sundance film festival 'sing your song'.. http://news.yahoo.com/video/entertainment/-15749636/23924053.

It is difficult for us who grew up in the 70s and 80s to understand the segregation and bigotry that was "normal" in society in the 50s and 60s.

Sure, we felt the echoes of it but the overness of racism was largely dismantled.

A interesting theological topic.

Personally, I side more with the Catholics on the issue. The Presbyterian minister seems to have overlooked Isaiah 11 & 65, Hosea 2, Eccelsiasties 3 etc.

It would be better if they could walk in love, not division John 17:21-23, Galatians 5:19-21

They are squabling over what we know only "in part" 1 Corinthians 13

Ok , this Trinity Doctrine is messing me up

some of you may know, i've been meeting with a jw lady, for a "bible" study (i hate calling it that).

i've been trying to end it pretty much since.

i've gotten more insight on their religion...i've blantently said that i don't like the "governing body", i don't agree with the blood doctrine, can't.

this, and after she left I read more about how the whole doctrine of the Trinity was developed, and now I'm questioning the whole thing myself..

Holy Spirit - Electrical-like force? Or a person?

one thing that strikes me when reading through the nt is that it seems impossible to view the holy spirit as merely a force.

the jw teaching is that it is sort of like god's magic.

it causes things to happen.

Watchtower: Because the holy spirit does not have a name, "it" is not a person.

The idea of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit being different names for the same individual doesn't accord with scripture.

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

Notice the "name", not "names".
