Yeah you gotta see it! Just been reading some quotes from the film. One of my top ten films of all time for sure.
Forrest Gump: My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
Forrest Gump: Mama always said, dying was a part of life.
Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: Have you found Jesus yet, Gump?
Forrest Gump: I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir.Forrest Gump: He was from a long great military tradition. Somebody from his family had fought and died in every single American war. I guess you could say he had a lot to live up to.
Forrest Gump: The best thing about visiting the President is the food! Now, since it was all free, and I wasn't hungry but thirsty, I must've drank me fifteen Dr. Peppers.
More here :)

satanus, with the greatest respect, how wise is it to form one's opinion about a film without actually going to see it?

I like Forrest's saying "stupid is as stupid does" which I think actually came from his mother.
Forrest Gump's "Stupid is as stupid does" is a variant of an old adage, "Handsome is as handsome does." This saying appears in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and in Herman Melville's "Billy Budd," and can be traced as far back as the 14th Century. "Handsome is as handsome does" basically means that true handsomeness has to do with a person's behavior, not just a handsome face. The saying is also phrased in the forms "Pretty is as pretty does" and "Beauty is as beauty does." Forrest's version of the saying means that stupidity is not just a surface thing derived from a person's appearance. Stupidity is a matter of deeds, not looks. Like the other versions, it comes down to this: judge people by what they do, not by how they appear.

Yeah I love that film-stirs the soul :)
oompa, back to the other thread, was Forest wise and smart? I'd say yes. Was he educated or intelligent? Much the opposite.
Just like Jesus said
Mark 10:15 ESV
15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it."

why do we call ourselves apostates?
by recovering ini think that the very act of questioning the teachings of the watchtower society does not make us apostates!!!
does not the bible teach us to examine what it teaches?
that is what the apostle paul says in the bible.

"I dont consider myself appostate. I am looking for truth.
I asked Jehovah to show me the truth.
And he answered my prayer and led me right out of the kingdumb hall."

need help find a scripure about truth for wise...not just the foolish
by oompa indoes anyone know of a scripture or scriptures that indicate that wise or perhaps smarter people can understand jesus teachings better than the simpleminded?.
my dad e-mailed me a response recently using the scripture where jesus said things had "been hidden" from smart or educated people, but revealed them to stupid people or babies or whatever...............then i saw a post here in the last few weeks i meant to mark that said the exact opposite...........the the truth was for wise people or such..........

Hi ooompa,
Wisdom is not the same as being intelligent or educated. A child can be unintelligent and uneducated yet wise.
As the bible says
Proverbs 1:7 (New International Version)
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline. No surprise as God knows everything.
Proverbs 9:10 (New International Version)
10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.Jesus is the "Holy One", get to know Him.
Mark 1:24 (New International Version)
24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you areāthe Holy One of God!"
You will need Jesus' Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (New International Version)
14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

lascivious governing body
by possible-san init is said that jehovah's witnesses will learn about "oral sex" again in the next watchtower study although i do not know well.. i think that the governing body is really foolish.. why do 3 years old children need to study such an obscene word with adults?.

I could not believe it when my JW friend told me that adult themes such as adultery leading to divorce were "taught" on with all sections of the congregation present including children.
As for oral sex, then have a read of the Song Of Songs/Song Of Solomon and decide for yourself.
If you want some teaching on it then watch this

"does anyone know of a scripture or scriptures that indicate that wise or perhaps smarter people can understand jesus teachings better than the simpleminded?"
There are none. The only prerequisite to entering the Kingdom is child-like faith.
Matthew 18:3 (New International Version)
3 And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:14 (New International Version)
14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Mark 10:15 (New International Version)
15 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."
Luke 18:17 (New International Version)
17 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."
Where is one's faith? Is it that Jesus is born of God or just the angel Michael metamorphosed? Do JWs love Jesus or like the Father?1 John 5:1 (New International Version)
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
All the best,
Stephen
