As a Witness I Hated Personal Study- How About You ?

i started a serious thread on cult mind control- so i figured i'd start a sarcastic funny thread, or serious, your choice how to explore it , on personal study !

i got so sick and tired as a witness with that expression being crammed down my throat !

Flipper..as usual...great writing! I only like personal study if it's on my terms. The Watch Tower mag used to get my blood boiling when one whole paragraph was just one, long run on sentence. It usually had about a thousand commas in it, making you re-read the freaking thing about 5 times to try to find out what it was saying.

As for not having enough time to read "ALL THE SOCIETY'S PUBLICATIONS" as is brought out at all the assemblies, work should not get in the way. As a matter of fact, you're not supposed to work at all....you should be a destitute pioneer.

As for the illustrations in the books, I always felt ones like "the great dragon" were akin to someone drawing and painting while on acid.

Happiness and the minds of JW's

if god is termed "the happy god" and he truly wants people to be happy, even in the present sense, then why are so many witnesses unhappy, miserable deep down inside, popping who knows what kind of prescription pills, and even driven to the point of suicide?

can witnesses ever truly measure up?

we've been told: "the new system will take care of everything"; "don't get an education in the world"; "don't save for retirement".

If God is termed "the happy God" and He truly wants people to be happy, even in the present sense, then why are so many Witnesses unhappy, miserable deep down inside, popping who knows what kind of prescription pills, and even driven to the point of suicide? Can Witnesses ever truly measure up? We've been told: "the new system will take care of everything"; "don't get an education in the world"; "don't save for retirement". It seems that the Watch Tower Society is more than quick to take your money but when you become old, penniless, and destitute, do you think the Society will ever come to your aid if you're just a "regular" publisher? I think care is only reserved for circuit/district overseers. It's no wonder, whatever is handed down from the great Society is enough to make one's head spin !

well, the letter was read and it applied to our area.

it seems that a lot of people that attend the district convention in our area are not following the rooming arrangements.

so the letter was strong wording about using just the rooms on the list even if it means traveling 45 miles to do so.

Dumping out my purse

ladies, how many of you have had this happen?

your cell phone is stashed in your purse and it starts ringing.

you plunge your hand in, hoping to grab it and begin the call.

Do not even own a purse. my motto is if I cannot fit it into my pocket then I do not need it. Yea, the typical response- how about a comb etc. I comb and groom first thing but why be so vain when out and about.Besides, the windblown tossed look is good too

could someone please tell me what do jehovahs witnesses think of disabled people?.

someone told me they have a attitude like "if it isnt perfect then god does,nt love it".

could someone please tell me if that is true?.

In my experience they are not good to the disabled. I have a disabled son and they were unkind. They (including elders) would look down on his inability to attend many meetings and his limitations in field service. If there was a congretation gathering he was not invited which made him feelterrible as well as me. I did go to the elders about it and the basic response was he is a hinderance to the others. They would plan trips to 6 flags(amusement park) and they said my son would slow them down and they wanted to ride as many rides as possibel. How do you tell a 15 year old that you are not wanted?

The difficulty of recovering from JW teachings

it's difficult to free yourself from years of cult influence.

i'm concerned that i may still be suffering from hidden assumptions that i haven't considered.

i'll have to examine my thinking for the rest of my life, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.. it would be easier if we could reject everything we were taught, but that's not really possible.

Iam still trying to figure it all out. Iam taking the approach of having an open mind and reading. I agree with you that they may be right about some things while most of it is rubbish. The real question is, what is true? I have started with the basics and that is the JW mandated rules. For instance, door to door for salvation- wrong. The faithful and descreet slave class being a mediator-wrong. The more difficult topics like Jesue being Gods son/trinity-no clue. The purpose of the earth???? Heaven and hell???? Try not to get overwehlmed, so much to think about and sift through. This board helps so much. There have been so many nice comments and thought provoking comments. The most importnat step was getiing out of that hateful, mindcontroling cult!!!!!!!!

Too busy being JWs to be Christians!!

some jws are so busy being jws, they have forgotten how to be christians.

the wts obsession with hours has led to the sick, elderly and depressed receiving rare visits because the time can't be counted.

if the wt allowed the time to be counted - i wonder how many visits these ones would suddenly start receiving?

Commentary on James is excellent. The society twists it to their way of thinking rather than what is written, take car eof orphans and widows, needy ......... Yea in thier mind the only way to be a Christian is to turn in that field service slip with at least 10 hours of service time.
