What's your favorite JW word or phrase?
by Sara Annie inin a minimus moment, i find myself interested in knowing which buzz-words and phrases in jw publications stand out the most to you?
when i read wt literature, i constantly find myself astounded by how transparently cultish the language is.
in an earlier, unrelated thread, i said the following: .

'System of things' ... talking to some sister about vising someplace faraway, she replied "Oh, we never thought we'll see you again in this system of things". What's that nonsense about?? What happened to stopping at 'again'. I didn't visit.

A couple of questions about summer conventions (spinoff)
by razorMind inbeing as i haven't been to a convention in years, i have a couple of questions:
do they still come out with that list of special-jw-rate hotels at the service meeting for the summer conventions?
also, i remember times when the list would be practically useless by the time my parents got home from that service meeting and started trying to make reservations.

It would be a sign of zero coordination if the WTS doesn't put these arrangements in place. They're good for organization. The problem with the arrangement is more ethical than all else. First, for the upcoming conventions, the letters sent out state that rather than use any other hotel not on the 'aprroved' list, brothers should call the congregation secretary and inform him of the situation; it was severally stressed that non-compliance would mean working against the interests of the brothers doing the work and by extension the FDS, and, of course, Jehovah. Also, there's the practice of gentle asking some who occupy the complimentary rooms to 'make a donation' to the Society (as Maggie writes); it's horrible putting more burdens on some of the poor full-timers.

Outright lying, bad. The things is about being creative about what counts as time. Some Reg Pio taught me some, stuff they learnt while at Pioneer's school: hand out a tract to neighbour next door; ask a kingdom question during lunch; write a letter for your NAHs: letter to be handwritten, counting every minute all the time; you get to learn some when you get on the Internet too, researching WT stuff and writing a few posts to argue with apostates; and, well, your dad was being creative about good conduct counting as time, so far he's conscious of if well, just so Brooklyn knows their touting 1 billion and more hours means nothing.

Out with a few dubs at some café, this weird sister (cute, btw; but weird, the kingdom way...) went on about how the kingdom 'll put an end to people smoking in cafés. Good Lord, wtf? She chose the café! And, would there be cafés then?? You want to know someone who's got serious issues with living? Well, they start talking about the old systems, the new order and stuff like that all the time.

w97 6/15 31 Questions From Readers (Excerpt from end of following account) But when it comes to the controversial question of whether any government of this world should exercise its right to execute murderers, genuine Christians remain carefully neutral. Unlike the clergy of Christendom, they keep out of any debate on this subject.

20,000 Die While "GOD" Watches as he sips Iced Tea
by JT intoday i had an interesting conversation, not with a christian believer but a muslim believer, .
he was trying to recruit me into the faith--so i thought i would pose the question to him about why his god watches as 20,000 believers (muslims) women, children, etc lost thier lives-.
his explanation i thought was straight out of a christian handbook on.

Adventures at the District Convention
by RunningMan inwell, after a 15 month absence from the kingdom hall, i once again found myself in the biggest kingdom hall of all the district convention.
as in previous years, the material presented was dull and repetitious, so once again, i was forced to provide my own entertainment.
so, like last year, i am pleased to present a further installment to my assembly adventures, called:

The issue is as much as about 'God', and the image of a God of love who cares about whta's happening on our Earth, who cares for his intelligent creation. Now, if God were presented as a non-caring person who leaves everything here to the forces of nature and chance, there'll be much less a problem. But is the death of about 50,000 people, buried alive while asleep consistent with a God of love, who's abundant in loving kindness? Many decent people don't see it. That derives from our nature as humans; most regular people would've prevented that earthquake if they could. God is presented as being able to; but he hasn't. If there's love, and/or justice in that, then we fail to comprehend it as humans. If our we don't understand God's love and justice, how can we conclude that he is loving and just? We might need to reevaluate our perception of God.

Find the error (quiz)
by Schizm inthe image below depicts the "manger scene".
if you look close, and use a little imagination, you can make out the "three wise men" there on the left, and joseph and mary on the right.
of course the brightest, pulsating "star" above them all is the "star of bethlehem".
