  i have published a new article at watchtower corporal punishment, as a response to the testimony that geoff jackson gave at the royal commission.

  it includes the relevant part of the transcript, along with a string of watchtower quotes to show that what he presented was not accurate, and that watchtower translates rod as a literal implement to hit children with.

  my parents were always of the belief that, "the end is right around the corner".. i was a zealous kid, with a learning disorder, so my parents never gave me a hard time or pushed me in regards to my education.. this not only hurt me, but, pissed me off insanely.

  fast forward to me having my own kid.

  Yes, she got a 20 on her spelling test and a 44 on her math test last week.

  Was she concerned or did she ask for help?

  The teacher had me sign her tests. I take that as the teacher was concerned, and rightfully so.

  Could you be overdoing it because of your JW experience with education?

  Yes

  Are her accomplishments directly tied to your feelings of worth as a parent?

  If she doesn't do well in school, I take it very hard, even personally. So, in this particular situation, yes. I say that because when she doesn't do well I feel like I've failed her as a mom.

  Thank you Dune. She's good with sounds (except for th, wh, etc, alphabet and numbers.)

  Last week I thought she was doing great in addition, until she got questions like, "5+_=10".

  Learning lesson for me in how to deal with her homework better...

  Her spelling test had, "what, with, you, your, then" things that you couldn't just sound out...

  I really should have worked harder with her over the summer... Ugh...

  Hi Sabin - This is something I've been aware of for years now. I've tried the best I could to get her ahead of the game; however, that pretty much worked for kindergarten...

  She has issues paying attention. Although, she is very well behaved.

  Mostly her issues are with spelling/reading. Math is a secondary issue.

  I've learned the way I work with her is not the best way. I try to do everything at once instead of a little at a time - just more redundant. I've just implemented changing that and hope it helps.

  Thanks Pete. I go as long as I can until she complains, then I give her a break everyday except Friday mornings - because it's the day of the test.

  Ava is 6 years old.

  I usually wake her up at 5:45am because she needs breaks during homework; however, once she has a tutor I will let her sleep until 6:15-6:30, so I can ease up in the mornings a bit.

  I had to get her to bed early, to wake up early because my 3 year old wouldn't interrupt us as much in the mornings.
