  JW Closet Drinkers

  how many here have had jw friends that can only have a good time when they drink?

  i've known plenty - ones with obvious drinking problems.

  not necessarialy alcoholics, but ones that equate good times with drinking, and drinking alone.

  Drinking is HUGE among the witnesses here. There is basically no social occasion without it. People actually even bring bottles to the bookstudy, afterwards we have cheese and wine, and the guys crack open a beer.

  the memorial i think is getting close to being over in most parts of the world.

  i'm really interested to know if the recent watchtower article encouraged any to partake for the first time.

  did anyone notice this?

  Thanks for your replies.. the JWD site totally dropped out for hours so I couldn't reply until now.
  
  The 3 sisters in one hall was a strange one. What sort of people were they? I knew a 70 year old who'd been a witness all her life, who partook one year and then stopped the next. Very strange.
  
  I'm really interested to see how the count looks this year. If it has gone up dramatically, my thoughts are that they are being influenced by the Watchtower, which means that it has to be bogus IMHO. If the anointed know "without a doubt" then no Watchtower article should influence this.

  So. The memorial I think is getting close to being over in most parts of the world. I'm really interested to know if the recent Watchtower article encouraged any to partake for the first time. Did anyone notice this?
  
  I was also wondering if any of you know young(er) ones who have started taking the memorial emblems in recent years? How would you describe their personality type?
  
  I do know of one approx 40 year old Circuit Overseer who started taking the emblems when he was about 35. I didn't know him well, he seemed really nice, although he seemed an obsessive-compulsive personality type.

  What proof is there of evolution?

  being raised a witness, throughout my life i've always switched off when i heard an argument for evolution.

  so i know almost nothing about the subject, except what i was taught in the "evolution vs creation" book, and i'm guessing that wasn't entirely impartial.

  i think of the arguments put forth by witnesses about the amazing design in nature, thereby proving a creator.

  Hi Tsar - I actually know some witnesses who think like you do, that evolution might be used by God. The jury still out on this for me, but it still doesn't cover the "yeah but where did God come from?" thing.. Not that I have any hard and fast opinions on this.. yet. :-)
  
  Moxie - The flood idea was something I've always had problems with. It was the start of my research actually. There are still Biblical groups out there that have their own tables on how all those animals could have fit, but my issue is more along the lines of how did 8 people possibly feed all those animals as well as clean up their crap and look after themselves at the same time? And what, did they have little dive pools for the penguins and seals? And if this was all solved by miracles, then why didn't God make things less complicated and just destroy all the unbelievers instead of wiping most of the innocent animal kingdom in a flood? Hmmm..

  ...there is a young lady at my workplace, who is a jw, and is sending the obvious signs that she at least has interest in me...even know that i will be a minister 'of the devil's church', as jws call it, as of june.

  i'm not going to lie, i think she's cute, and if she wants to talk, i would do it.

  one of my major questions is this: if i am not a jw, why would she have any intrest in a person that is apart of 'satan's system'?

  The Future of the Watchtower Society and the Internet

  it seems that the watchtower society was very ill prepared for the advent of the internet.

  perhaps, some of the governing body thought the end would come before it became a big problem.

  now it is a big problem and is only going to get worse.
