Well for me, it means that the tag is not stamped on my forehead and leaves the way open for my family, or other JWs to still quietly be in contact without "breaking the rules". If you don't have family in, I wouldn't bother.
What do you mean about taking it up the butt in the short term? Missed that point, sorry. Remember that the witnesses have the lowest retention rate of every other religion in the US. Odds are your kids will leave anyway.

One more point, although it may be too late.
If you can avoid disfellowshipping, it may be worthwhile. Just feed them bullshit for now, you've been severely depressed and not thinking straight and yes you believe the borg is the earthly spokesperson of God (groan)... see if it works, you never know. Then if they try to see you again later, tell them that you are having a mental breakdown and cannot face the discussion.
I made up my mind if they were going to play their stupid little games, then I'd play right back. My family are all dubs, so avoiding the df title was important to me, only because it is important to my family.
If you don't have family in, then let 'em disfellowship you, it's the perfect way to stop the do-gooders coming around to upbuild you.

Yknot, I see your point, but personally I would sooner stab my own eyeballs out than live life as a hypocrite. But that's just me.

believingxjw... your comments are ignorant, offensive and bloody unhelpful. Raising our children as JWs is what all of us did before we escaped the brainwashing. What a useless and dangerous attitude you have in telling someone to throw their hands up and leave their children to the clutches of this cult.
To the others who are pushing marriage counselling for NVL - can I just ask, with respect, what is your motivation for encouraging the marriage? In my humble opinion I cannot see how a marriage between a witness and an apostate could possibly be healthy. Add in the fact they were already experiencing marital problems and to me the answer is obvious.
NVL, you have a right to be in a healthy relationship with good sex life and with a person who respects your beliefs. Don't settle for anything less. Sadly, your children will suffer whether you stay or go. Now that you are not wearing your dub blinkers and you won't take any more of their shit, your home will not be one of peace. There will be some tough times ahead for your wife, for your kids and for you. You are not to blame, the Jehovah's Witness religion is to blame.
I am speaking from my own experience. I don't know your situation well. Having said that, in my opinion, if you stay you will only be dragging out the agony.

I really feel for you, when I found out the real "truth" I also was forced to make decisions about my marriage.
I know this is a scary thought, but I urge you to consider it. You have said that you already have issues in the marriage. Six months?? PLEASE. That is just freaking ridiculous. Of course you went and got it elsewhere. YOU HAVE MAJOR MARRIAGE PROBLEMS, with or without the truth. Now you also have the insurmountable issue of apostasy. In her JW eyes, you are almost like the devil. And this is a healthy relationship how exactly??
The children is where you need to stop and think. No-one can tell you what to do on that. Very tough facing the thought of seeing them less often. But be realistic. If you work full time, you probably only spend the last hour of the day with them? On the weekends, you waste Saturday and Sunday mornings dedicated to the Watchtower Society. Imagine the quality time you could have if you alone had them over every second weekend. And then you would be free to stand up without hypocrisy and gently teach them the real truth. The thought of less custody is scary, but the benefits make it worth considering.
I left a marriage that was actually a very good marriage in many ways. The clincher was when I realised that our beliefs were too far apart for reconciliation. You can't live with someone that thinks you are the Devil. It was very difficult, very lonely and scary. I had been married 17 years (married at 18). Still, I have NOT ONE REGRET. It was the best decision of my life. Trust me when I tell you that if you make that decision, in a years' time you will wonder why the hell you hadn't done it earlier. Don't sit around letting your wife control your future, take the decision into your own hands.
Good luck, and don't be so hard on yourself.

Most Ridiculous Thing You've Ever Been Counseled On
by MrFreeze ini'm sure topics like this have already come up but they tend to get hilarious with the absolute absurdity that goes on in the kh.
i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.
i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.

I was counselled for wearing "cheeky hot pants" ... and after protesting that I don't own a pair of hot pants... we finally determined that they were actually talking about a pair of boyleg bathers (swimsuit) like this but one piece:
I just couldn't believe they were counselling me on a pair of very modest bathers that I was only wearing to the beach!
To be fair my arse did look damn hot in them though.

How I obtained my personal files from Bethel
by jwfacts init has taken me a long time, but i have finally put together an article outlining how i used the law to force bethel to send me my personal files.
it is a very long article full of scans, so i have linked to it at http://jwfacts.com/watchtower/experiences/personal-files-privacy-act-1988.php.
in brief, in 2006 i requested that bethel send me my files on the basis that the australian privacy act 1988 entitles people to receive a copy of any information a corporation holds about them.

So the Watchtower lawyer was Mr Toole? hahaha ah hell.
Paul, you're a bloody hero, you always stand up for what you believe in, and I think you are a star. I can see how writing that would have been tough for you, but thank you for doing so, you are blasting a light of truth through a very dark, controlled situation.
I love your site... who knows how many you have helped with it. I aspire to attempt something similar one day.

What's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?
by A.Fenderson inwhat's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?.
my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.
it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.
