It seems to me, over the years, dramas have drifted further and further from the actual Bible accounts they are supposedly based on, adding more and more made up fluff. They exaggerate, are intellectually dishonest, and manipulative. This really started to annoy and WORRY me. Why do they think they have to make up their own "Bible stories", and isn't that a little dangerous (going beyond the things that are written, etc)? I know for a fact that many JWs go home thinking that what they saw in the drama is really what happened in the Bible. Bizarre.

It's Sunday. I'm just sitting here. I won't be forcing myself to sit through an enormously boring and depressing meeting. I won't be struggling to make superficial conversations with self righteous nervous people. I won't be parading in to McDonald's in a suit to choke down fast food between the meeting and field service. I won't be pounding on doors annoying people at their homes. Just being home on the weekend and not feeling guilty about it is a big treat after years of running in circles.

Are we hyper-sensitised to JW changes? Do we exaggerate their importance?
by yadda yadda 2 insometimes i think we lose all perspective at times on here.
that we are just as prone to over-magnifying any meaning behind relatively minor changes like this in the organisation in the same way jw's are prone to over exaggerate every bit of bad news in the world to mean armageddon is near.. when you sit down in the cold light of day, this change to the bookstudy arrangement for example, is it really that much a big deal?
i strongly doubt it really, despite initial reactions (including my own).

Yes and No. It depends on the individual perspective, experience, and situation in life. One thing's for sure, it makes for interesting reading. Claim to be the only true religion, claim to be the only way to survive when the world ends any minute now, claim excessive control over people's lives, and yeah, someone's going to watch and comment on what you do, especially if they or their friends and family are stuck in it.

As A Former JW, Do You Feel You Should "Apologize" For Past Actions?
by minimus indo you believe that you should now apologize for whatever actions you made when you were a witness?.
do you think that if you were an elder that you should contact those that might've felt oppressed by you and your "theocratic" actions?.
if you were a zealous preacher, do you now feel you should go back to your former bible students and tell them the error of your ways?.

When the 1995 generation change came out I was still active and "zealous" and everything. My first impulse was to go back to all those doors I had been to where someone had allowed me to do the song and dance about "Jesus said we don't know the day and the hour, but we DO know the GENERATION". 1914 plus 70 or 80 years means it's SOON. I felt I had distorted Jesus' words and had twisted scriptures, and it really bothered me. After awhile I figured no one had really listened anyway, probably paid no attention or realized I was nuts. If I went back to apologize they would likely wonder who is this moron, and it would just be an further annoyance to them.

Why are Pedophile attracted to JWs?
by MMae inbadboy raised the above question in another thread.
i was wondering how much jw training and/or fear of god played a role in jw childrens' victimization.
these are my comments:.

In response to the comments that pedophilia is not specifically a JW problem and therefore "bashing" is not appropriate: Yes it is true, JW's are not unique in having this problem in their organization. But that is exactly the POINT. JW's teach themselves and their children that their organization is a special place of safety. Outside the org is "the world" where danger and terror abound. Inside the org is the pure spiritual paradise where all are safe. That is a major teaching. "We are clean and have Jehovah's protection, the world is evil and dangerous." This self-righteous pompous lie/exaggeration amounts to a false claim made in the name of God. It invites a strong response from those who have been hurt.

Of Pedophelia and False Positives
by inkling inok, something has been bugging me recently, so please forgive meas i play devil's advocate for a moment.
child abuse of any type is horrific, and when it is sexual innature it can cause unimaginably cruel and life-long damage.i think we can all agree on that.
however, in the past irreparable damage to people's lives havealso been caused by accusations of child abuse that turnedout to be baseless... families are torn apart, trust is shredded, reputations ruined, all because a child misunderstood something, or fabricated a story to get attention, or was pressured by paranoid and possibly abused adults into remembering things that never happened.

The statistics for false positives in that article included many kinds of mistreatment, not just pedophilia. Therefore, your post was misleading, although perhaps not intentionally. Elsewhere on that website the point is made that sexual molestation is if anything under-reported. http://www.menstuff.org/issues/byissue/incestmolest.html#molestation

Are We Any Better Than the Witnesses?
by Caljuher ini have just been on this board a short time.
i have been visiting it for years, however, via the freeminds site since i left the jws in the late 1990s.. but there is so much anger and pain and hatred--especially for people who still want to believe in some kind of god or religion--on this board that it doesn't seem to be so healthy of a place.
why so much hate?

This forum provides a badly needed place where people can freely express their thoughts and feelings. A basic level of civility is appropriate, to facilitate communication. But trying to be "better", being concerned with appearances, worrying about what THEY will think... that kind of pressure is what many here are escaping.
