the latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.

ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.

but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

I have not read that magazine but it does not seem from the quote that the Society is setting a new date outright. It seems they are trying to instill some hope and energy into the brothers.

If though they are trying to point to a date 2034 is too far away for the core workers the vast majority of the long time faithful brothers to look forward to. This would be more discouraging than encouraging to them I think. The Society's younger ones need the older mature ones in their forties and fifties to help them to keep going. If the Society discourages the baby boomers who have waited for so long and who have witnessed the passing of the previous generations I think it would be catastrophic for the Organization.

I find it hard to understand why they act the way they do, since they even act without reason or common sense many times.

i posted here just a little back in january of 2001. i scrambled out of here right quick then since i was still active and fearful of so many things.

i am inactive but not exactly a non jw yet.

i am a conservative person and still believe that some of the teachings of jws are good though i do not agree with everything that's for sure!

Thank you Steve,

I feel like a stranger in paradise, just discovering the beautiful world around me. My JW upbringing taught me to see everything on the outside as bad. Now I see that while not everything is right with the world everything is not all wrong either.

Don't know where this journey will take me but I trust in God with all my heart and so I fear not. I feel somewhere inbetween a JW and non JW. Is there a word for that? Got to stop now because the tears are coming.

You're right though I did not address my theme. For me "out of the mist" means finding my way out of my whole life's misty thinking as a JW and trying to find a new way of life. I guess that's part of the reason why I decided to post here.

I am inactive but not exactly a non JW yet. Don't think I will ever be. I am a conservative person and still believe that some of the teachings of JWs are good though I do not agree with everything that's for sure! I love Bible study, my family, making good friends, and peace. I hope to find friends here if you will have me.

Hi, thanks for responding. I made that statement about the Great Tribulation in order to make more plain a statement I made on an earlier post on this same thread.

In that post I asked a question about Matthew 24 and Luke 21. When comparing the two could the differences between them be more easiy understood or explained if we looked at Matthew 24 as only applying to the last century in this system and Luke 21 primarily applying to the first century?

For instance, the Great Tribulation is mentioned in Matthew but not in Luke. It has been hard to explain how this Great Tribulation which "has not occurred since the world's beginning until now, no, nor will occur again," could have applied both to the first century and the last days. But if Luke was primarily speaking about the first century and Matthew about the last days then it becomes plain as to what is meant.

There are other comparisons that can be made between the two accounts that when looked at in this light can be more easily understood.

I look forward to possibly hearing your comments on this, if you find the subject of interest.

I apologize, if my post was poorly worded.
By the term "last century" I did not mean the 20th century
but the last century in this system. I do not think that the great
tribulation has started.

Hello! May I ask a question please?

In Luke 21 after the encamped armies surround Jerusalem there is, I believe, a lesser degree of urgency to leave than is spoken about at Matthew 24. Also as was mentioned Luke does not use the term Great Tribulation but Matthew does. There are as you know other differnces between Luke 21 and Matthew 24.

My question is: Could Luke be speaking about the events of the 1st century only, while Matthew by inspiration spoke of events in the last century?
