That is why I said I'm glad to see a START towards equality :) Liek I implied, I don't think true equality can be reached until minorities are equally represented in government as they are in our general population.

Are you part of a progressive Hall?
by Not Feeling It inwith the proliferation of the vague concept (to most jws, not me!
) of a conscience matter, do you think there are more liberal (i don't mean politically) jws?
have you come across many or any halls where the boe or the membership are content to really let the conscience decide the small stuff rather than the iron-fisted approach?.

fwiw, I've moved around a lot (I'm almost 29, and I've in 22 different houses among Michigan, New York, NW Arkansas, and Texas) and the only "liberal" congregation I encountered was Austin. The rest seemed about average. Austin was a more liberal city though all around.

no, I've been out 4 years :) I met with the elders and addressed my concerns and stopped going right then- so it is well known that I've chosen not to be a JW, but I've never been DA'd or DF'd.

nvrgnbk- just silver. I am cheap (if you can call any patron cheap that is) and I don't know why, but I find clear liquor more aesthetically pleasing for shots. I was actually craving a good top shelf vodka and grapefruit juice last night, but I don't know much about vodka brands and varieties so I haven't bought any.
Right now I'm sipping black coffee. not that it matters, but A Dark Roast, South American, and fair trade variety (which I tend to prefer to an African variety).

It is sad that the gender or color is even an noteworthy factor, you know? But I'm likewise thankful that true equality is finally starting. I've always felt that true equality wasn't achieved until here was equal opportunity in positions of power and government. I am glad we're reaching that as a country.
I am voting for Obama in the primaries as I prefer him to Clinton... even though as a woman with 3 daughters the idea of having a strong female president does appeal to me. I'm just not fond of her personally.

Do they still call you "for your time" for this month?
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land inwe got woke up this morning (again) by a call from one of the elders or his ms assistant, looking for "our time report" for this past month.
i've been out for over two years (faded), my wife and the kids haven't attended hardly any meetings since the memorial... talk about clueless.
no "shepherding calls" on her (thank goodness!

hmm... no, not at all. Even the very first month I quit going they pretty much knew I was choosing not to keep going and never called me even once for my time or for encouragement. Maybe that is because they came over to answer my questions, and I had enough objections that they might have written me off as a lost cause. Since reading here I'm surprised they let me go so easily. I raised all the normal apostate issues, but I only talked to elders about it- so maybe they didn't feel they had grounds to DF me but also didn't really want me around their sheeple?

I do think there is a variance. When my DH was in college in Austin, the elders were almost understanding of us missing meetings and came over often to check on us in a very loving/non condemning manner. After bookstudy on goody night there was almost always beer in that hall as well. Most other places I've lived have not been that way at all... at all.

"This change shows how close the end we REALLY are..............."
by Warlock inaccording to one of my relatives, the co said, on a recent visit, that the offer of "everlasting life" will be brief and to the point.. when street witnessing, if people refuse, do not chase them.
in the door to door work, if someone is not interested, do not persist, just leave.. according to my relative, these changes really show "how close to the end we really are".. why is it that every change is interpreted as "this change shows how close to the end we really are"?.
i have come to realize that the wts are masters at jerking people around, and i really hate it!.

This is what we hear from my MIL when we talk to her... how close we really are. Obviously hoping to encourage us. Same stuff I was hearing when I was 5.
