  Elders Appreciation Day?

  hi everyone, here i come, "from roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.".

  i have been trying to keep from expressing my volatile opinions and doing pretty well until i came across this rediculous video.

  I never heard of this when I was in (grew up in MI) There were parties when bethelites would come, but it was usually more like "sister so and so is throwing a 'we miss you party' for her son" or something of hat nature... the same way to often do when someone first goes off to Bethel. But never did I see an elder or pioneer appreciation day.

  OT but we sent a mother's day gift & card to my MIL who is still in. She thanked us and never mentioned anything "bad" about it. I think she knows she isn't supposed to, but enjoys it anyway. She is he type who would go all out for holidays if she could.

  He Doesn't Want Children ...

  from friends who are called on regularly by jws i learn the latest in our locale:.

  "we" don't want children because the end is so close.. .

  I only know one sister who truly desired children and chose to forgo it for the sake of the "end". She is still a sweetheart and will probably keep smiling for generations to come... but I know her heart will always be sad about it.

  Most others I know who said that, seem to actually like being child-free and it is more like an "acceptable" excuse in a world where only pioneering and motherhood are acceptable roles for women.

  DO YOU PHOTOSHOP?

  i do.....enjoy creating images...right now for fun....someday, as i learn more , for fun and profit..... all my images are compositions.

  one thing i need is a good digital camera to build a stock library...i also enjoy taking pictuers of friends and others and placing them in various old move sceens and such....any other shoppers out there?

  show us some of your stuff........ below are a few images i've done over the last several years..... .

  I don't do composites. Just standard retouching, photofinishing, and other boring stuff. I also do some designs for coffee table books and the like.

  Have you noticed an increase in JW's with one foot in the world????

  i have a few examples: a witness did a job for me an asked for cash under the table.

  alot of witnesses talk more about material things than anything else.

  alot of complaining about the organization mostly by people that once held positions.

  Witnesses have been trained to adjust their presentation to fit the audience. When they're around "proper dubs", they talk about the proper things, you know, the meetings, service, and such theocraptic crap. When they're around "worldlings" they have their choice of being good dubs, ordinary folk, or somewhere in between. But when they're around like-minded less spiritual dubs, they can be incredibly honest.

  You ask if there's been an increase... I ain't the all-knowing Hojovah, but I'd say probably yes.

  ITA- I was always a double lifer and I could usually pick out the others who were as well. Many that were there with me (and are still in) are still living the double life al these years later. We all look pretty straight and narrow at the hall.

  I do think the number of those people are increasing, but there has always been pockets of them in every hall. They just couldn't reveal themselves to everyone. Once you're out or borderline they will feel much safer being themselves around you.

  3 a.m. - my wife is in tears! What do I do?

  well my situation has developed a bit, any advice appreciated.. their has been a gradual building up of pressure ever since i stood down as an elder about 6 months ago.. i have been telling my wife about my doubts but have continued to attend "some" meetings.. as time has progressed i have become more open with my criticism of the org.. i mentioned the un scandal, molestation trials, false prophecy ect etc.. interestingly she does not deny these facts and yet still wants to continue as a jw.. i told her that god is not happy with people knowingly being part of a false prophet (deut 18 - etc) - starting to lay the groundwork for my exit.. she appreciates the difficult situation doubters are in - they cannot openly express their feelings for fear of jcs.. anyway, a few weeks ago we moved house which meant changing congregation.. but i felt it would be best if i did not attend meetings " at all" at the new cong so my fade could be easier.. but i could not have predicted my wifes response - when i told her it was an explosion of emotion, i mean real heartbreaker stuff.. she seems depressed at the prospect, perhaps the reality is finally hitting home.. last night, about 3a.m.

  i noticed that she was not in bed.

  i went downstairs and she was sobbing away to herself.. "i can't go to that hall myself!

  fwiw, my husband stopped going because he didn't want to go it alone. For me personally, it felt horrible. I hated knowing that he left for ME instead of himself... BUT it took that time of mental clarity and freedom from the constant catch phrases to find his own truth, which he has since done.

  I am not sure what I would do in your case. I obviously stayed true to my goal of leaving, but my husband didn't respond emotionally. Maybe you could open discussion with her that you feel these are your two choices and ask her what she would do if she were you. The conversation should progress from there.

  I hope you find a good solution.

  Being told that "Not all people will die at Armageddon"

  my wife, who while still (at least partially) in, is an open thinker, agrees with me for the most part, and has made a recent observation... .

  she brings up with her friends how it's difficult to believe that all non-jws, over 6 billion will die at armageddon.

  plus will die becuase they didn't accept some magazine.

  If you could have your family back..... (Are JWs toxic to you?)

  would it be worth even being around jws from time to time?

  my family left before I did, so I have them. I would absolutely have my in laws more involved in our life if I could. I adore them, I especially miss my FIL and step MIL. I think they mean well and want us in their life to, their ideal is just deluded right now. I don't consider them toxic.

  We continued to speak to my MIL the many years she was DF'd and I doubt she'll ever cut us off. I honestly don't think she believes, I just don't think she was able to get out to the "other side" even though she tried. She is very respectful and far from toxic.

  What I miss the most is all the aunties, uncles, cousins, family dinners, etc. I loved marrying in to a close family, and I'm sad I don't have it anymore. They are lovely people who think they are doing right.

  Patchy memories

  i often think back to my childhood and discover that my memories are very patchy.

  names, faces, school teachers, things related to being a brought up as a dub.

  memories of some years are patchier than others - for example when i was about 10, we moved from the city that we had always lived to a small town, 2 hours drive away - we moved back to the city 3 years later - i remember very little of the first two years in that small town.. i seem to think that the years where the memories are patchy were times when i was quite unhappy.

  Very much so. What I do remember I can only tie to an age range based on what town or house we were in- and trust in my Dad to tell me what I age I was in said town or house. (we moved a lot)

  I also look back at my time as a JW (born in until 24ish) as a big void of sorts... a few memories, but for the most part it feels as though it was all a dream or something. Doesn't seem very real. It is an empty feeling for sure.

  i certainly have heard a lot of idiotic stuff during my tenure as a witness - but this one is priceless:.

  a neophyte was complaining about the heat, humidity, physical effort, etc., involved in attending the district convention at veteran's stadium in philadelphia - and she was right.

  it was miserable.

  I have a horrible memory really, what comes to mind for me does so because it was a monumental moment for me. I remember once a brother went on for about 7 or 8 minutes on why feminism is the root of all problems in society. From starvation to marital demise. He explained how Satan was leading the feminist movement.

  Apparently women would never decide against being substandard humans on their own, they needed Satan to lead them to it. What garbage. Oh, and he related is to Eve and how the snake lead her towards "independent thinking".
