Had a Conversation with a Young JW Lady at the Bus Stop

there was a young blonde lady who was passing out the wt & awake magazines at the bus stop where i was waiting for the bus to go downtown..... i started having a conversation with her by starting out about charles taze russell.

i told her that of all of my readings of the works of c.t.

russell, not one time did he ever teach that jesus was michael the archangel..... so i told her about this quote....zions watchtower and herald of christs presence, their official magazine of doctrine, 1879, page 48, which is teaching on jesus christ: "...his position is contrasted with that of men and angels, as he is lord of both, having all power in heaven and earth.

Need help with Watchtower Quote

i've seen the quote numerous times here, but can't seem to currently find it using the 'search' feature.

it's the one the watchtower uses regarding examining your own religion for the 'truth'.

it's meant for other religions, but i want to turn it around and use it for examining the jws.

*** w50 8/15 263 Name and Purpose of The Watchtower *** TheWatchtower does not claim to be inspired in its utterances, nor is it dogmatic. It invites careful and critical examination of its contents in the light of the Scriptures.

*** The New Creation 274 (not yet on CD-ROM) *** The means, the channels of these blessings, the Lord himself will oversee and direct. All the members of the body united to the Head are to have confidence and to look for the fulfillment of his promises: but, nevertheless, are to "try the spirits"--to test the doctrines from whomsoever they emanate. The proving does not imply a lack of confidence in those recognized as divinely directed channels of truth; but it does imply a faithfulness to the Lord and to the Truth as superior to all human teachers and their utterances;--it implies also that they are not listening for the voice of man, but for the voice of the Chief Shepherd; that they feast upon his words and love them-love to masticate them and to digest them. Such members of the body grow stronger and more rapidly in the Lord and in the power of his might than do others, because more attentive to the Lord’s leading and instruction.

Did you merely accept the one your parents had, or did you examine the facts for yourself? Is yours an inherited religion, or a believed one? There can be a great difference between the two.

*** w66 3/1 132 Should Falsehood and Corruption Be Exposed? *** People feel that it may not be the best policy to deceive and be untruthful, but to make known deception and uncover falsehood is regarded as being even worse. To do so often opens one to greater censure than is received by the person who commits the wrong. Jesus never hesitated to speak the truth, even though he was killed at the instigation of the angered religious leaders for doing so. Therefore, how will you respond when pointed statements are made about false religious teachings and corrupt practices? Will you immediately condemn the person or organization making the expos? Do you feel it is all right to teach lies and misrepresent Gods Word, but wrong to expose the error? Contrary to what some may think, it is not unkind and unloving to lay bare falsehood and corruption. Therefore, it is right and proper to speak out strongly against falsehood and corruption. A person or organization that, in imitation of Jesus Christ, has the courage to do so deserves attention and respect.

*** w59 5/15 305 Is It Wrong to Change Religions? ***But what should a person do when he becomes convinced that the religion he inherited is the wrong form of worship, that its teachings are untrue and that its leaders are blind guides who are leading him into the way of divine disapproval? Would it be wrong for him to go against the wishes of his parents and of the community by changing his religion? Or would it be wrong for him not to change? This is a serious decision, and certainly neither the opinions of others nor emotions should be allowed to influence it, because it has to do with his relationship with God.

An elder gave me that look

i'm inactive since many years and i met an elder yesterday while i was driving in the city.

i made my stop, and an elder passed in front of me driving very slowly and made a very sad and disapproved face.

although it lasted about 3 seconds, i could feel exactly what he was thinking.. i felt as if i was a very bad boy not wanting to play knock knock on doors with them anymore.. for the inactive ones, do you often get that kind of disapproved look?.

I am inactive but do not het funny looks. I do see quite alot of the youngsters still so maybe they are a little more liberal than older dubs. Still, most greet me...I might have an idea why btw... I tolled many times that I simply was to busy with my study at the university...maybe after I graduate their stance will change... who knows....
