Is Mankind Born Evil....or Good?
by Farkel inmany ancients including confucious and lao tzu took opposing views about this subject and their arguments are fascinating to read.
their arguments are nearly 2,500 years old.
the greeks also lively debated this question.. of course, as dubs (and in fact, in most christian faiths) we were taught that man was born inherently evil, and the quest is to overcome that and work towards the good.

Farkel, I think I understand now:
The question you asked was: is mankind born evil or good? which suggests we can choose as an answer good or evil. And for this we do need to define good and evil.
However, I think your real question is: Are humans born with a blank moral state or with one that is at least partly predetermined (be it by genes or sin)? In other words, the nature vs nurture debate. Good and evil need not be defined in this case.
This caused alot of confusion and my reason for pressing you to define "good". These two questions are very different. But I understand now, am I correct?
Your last post was pretty good BTW

Several things:
1) writing several articles on religion/bible/reason/wtbs/logic etc
2) creating a mega-index. On my computer I have scores of articles/quotes/random thoughts on a zillion topics stored. I like to index them logically so I can find them when I need them (see number 1).
3) Writing a book (several ideas)
4) free my parents from the borg (it's working!) and DA
5) creating a rift in the space-time continuum

Poll - What kind of Ancient People are YOU???
by LittleToe inare you: a minority group called "jew" a majority group called "greek" a minority group called "christian"
to believe in christ, the jews asked for a powerful sign, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the greeks appealed to logic and wisdom, before they would believe.. to believe in christ, the christians simply believed, and treated it as a personal calling.. which category do you believe you fall into 1, 2 or 3?.
.. 1cor.1:22-25 - the message.

Yet another example of how silly the Bible is...
by Abaddon inokay, let's go along with the flood story for a moment, to the point where noah exits the ark.. here we have noah, with two of each animal and seven of the clean animals; maybe a few dozen animals that were not essential to the future survival of the species.. what does god do?.
tells noah he can eat animals now.. are you telling me an all-wise, all-knowing god isn't capable of better planning than that?
which strikes you as more likely?

Funny thing is that this also provides us with a testable claim!
Such a dramatic bottleneck in the genetic diversity could be measured today as we know mutation rates. And guess what? The genetic diversity is huge! No way there was such a decline in genetic diversity just a few thousands of years ago.

Onacruse, I agree (see my previous post)!
The question cannot be answered unless we have an objective definition of "good". Farkel already provided the definition of "evil" which he defined as 'not good', a negative. Fair enough. We don't know what that is however until we define "good".
I was ignored too btw :o((( sniff sniff sob sob.... LOL
