Boarding schools are not banned but strongly frowned upon just as any occasion you are away from their grasp (long schooltrips, living at campus etc). What struck me as funny was this quote:

this week i did what ive allways wanted to do and joined the navy,,, well nany reserve is the best i can do right now.. im waiting for all the tests now, but i just wanted your thoughts on the "moral rightness" of joining the military.. im still gonna do it though!.

i used to be a jw for a few years but i left it behind like a pair of dirty underwear.
at first it seemed good.
the people were all very nice and inviting (of course they would be), the teachings seemed logical.

If my recollection is right it couldn't have been Russell, because they celebrated birthdays up until 1927, Russell as you might know died 1916. It was Rutherford most likely.

E-man: Josephus, You'd better tell us which country's navy you've joined! Mike. The Swiss Navy rules suppreme! Never beaten! Have you ever defeated an enemy you didn't know existed? Just joking... Good on you! I hope you will find what you are looking for! My personal opinion? I wouldn't serve myself, but that's just me. If you know the Navy is what you want GO FOR IT!!! Greven

Some of you guys were really young ages 12 13! Such an important decision taken at so little an age! I thought the witnesses didn't do child baptising, seems they simply forgot when armageddon was around the corner!
Nobody got presents?! I earned myself a pulsar watch and several 'worldly' books , Tolkien I believe...

I had something simular, I never could connect with any of these people, not even of my own age. It was like they thought on a completely different level then me. So I felt sad, lonely and out of place too. Now I know why!

I've never gotten over the claustrophobic-like feeling of other people thinking that they had the right to run my life and then having the gall to act on it. Never again. Never, ever again.
I feel the same way! I am very hesitant when joining a group, any attempt to control me meets my swift wrath!

At about the age of 16 my parents started asking the famous question: What is keeping you from getting babtised? Actually I wasn't sure about this religion being true. I just hated the meetings and fieldservice was even worse. So my plan was to hold on till I would live on my own and then simply cease going to meetings. This question and the quilttrip around it stood in the way of my cunning plan. I could postpone it intil I was 18. Then finally I decided to go along with it. I had started to have doubts regarding the existance of God aswell and figured the baptism to be a final test. If I would pledge an oath to obey God with all my hart I figured that if he existed, the baptism would make an end to my doubts. Hearing all these stories from loyal JW's, I somehow expected to feel different, cleansed when arising out of the water. Well when it finally happened, I felt lonely, deceived, cold and wet ofcourse. No difference. No nothing. Well, the presents were nice but that was about the only benefits that came out of it. No renewed zeal. No burning fire within me. And no celestial dove either (not that I expected it, but it would have been a nice touch). I knew I had made a mistake.
So what were your experiences? Were you pressured into it or did you do it out of your own free will? Did it feel like you expected it? Did it change you?
