i guess i was lucky in away that my father was never a jw when i grew up, my mother a jw she tried her best although she tried mostly to force us to go to meetings and get us involved when my dad was not around.. the thing i recall the most with my mom was how she was easily influenced by other witnesses.
she would do things out of character sometimes things that were just not her.
normally she was calm and easy going.

the thing I recall the most with my mom was how she was easily influenced by other witnesses. She would do things out of character sometimes things that were just not her. Normally she was calm and easy going. But I do recall one year we went out to visit her sister who were strict jw's and pioneers. I'm not sure what I had done I was 12 but I know I hated the control they had with there daughter, I had voiced my opinion to my mom and she slapped me across the face, I was devastated. I looked at her and said if you were at home you never would have done that. You let them (family) jw's tell you what to do. Your not like this and it sure gave her lots to think about because after the 2 weeks when we got home she apoligized....she was trying to be someone she was not.
Sometimes other people have away of convincing you that you should do things differently.....I can think of lots of instances but this one was a lot for a 12 year old.
What outstanding experience do you recall tha really hit you hard growing up....

well after waiting months to hear about an important scholarship application that i was turned down for, i got good news about another smaller scholarship that only took a few weeks to process and i got it .
which is great news, since i've been worried about not having health insurance once i start school full-time in the fall.. i've been really, really worried that i might lose my health insurance due to working only part-time when school starts, but with this additional scholarship, i may be able to free up some other financial aid and may be able to port my current inusrance, (or buy insurance thru the school at student rates).. it is such a relief to have gotten it .
hope your dreams are coming true, too!.
that is great news, student rates even better...
Good luck in school nice to see you further your education..

Dating a non witness, a "worldly" person is highly discouraged and disciplinary action is also taken. When dating a so called "worldly" person, the witness involved runs the risk of have the local congregation, under the direction of the Watchtower Society, use their interpretation of 2 Thessalonians 3:6, 14 on them. This person becomes "marked" and although will still be spoken to, all social activities will cease and a judgemental attitude and perception of this individual will be created, causing mental pressure and hardship, all designed to pressure this person to either stop dating this so called "wordly person" or have them start studying to become a Jehovah's Witness and start attending the meetings themselves. In addition, any witness who marries outside of the religion, is considered to be breaking Apostle Paul's words to " marry only in the Lord ."
i just want to publicly apologize for being an ass to fhn.
fhn, you do annoy the heck out of me many times, but i have to acknowledge that you've continued to be friendly and not take it personally.
differences aside, that's worth a lot.
thats very big of you John......

those who would be already predisposed to depression may their problem aggravated by being in the JW religion.
I certainly agree that this can be the case. Chemical imbalances, family history of depression, eating disorders and so forth can all come into play.
Many young couples I knew and associated with one of them often suffered depression. Raising a family, making a living, trying to keep up with study preparation, meetings, service and the stress of talks often had its toll. Some people are good at juggling but for others the multi tasking becomes a burden and stressful.
So many suffer in silence for fear of the stigmatisim that becomes attached to such ones. Many years ago you did not openly talk about depression, you would get the you need to get out in service more or pray more. God will fix it in the new system.
Elders are not psychologist's not therapists they have no qualifications in these area's. What good does reading you a couple of scriptures do? People need real support and understanding its a long haul and their feelings are real.
me at 20: "wasn't the urim and thummim like a ouji board?
if it's wrong to use a ouji board, wouldn't it have been wrong for god's people to have used the urim and thummim?
isn't god the same today as yesterday and tomorrow?
Thats an excellent question.....and of course they have no answer to that one....
