Oprah Awards $50,000 to Silent Lambs

ah ha!!

now that i got your attention.... well, oprah hasn't yet awarded $50,000 to silent lambs, but she very well could if enough of us "nominate" silentlambs (bill/sheila/joe/barbara, et al) for oprah's "use your life award.

" any regular oprah-watchers will know what i'm referring to; that during the season, she presents various individuals (on monday's show each week) with this award for their service to their cause (along with the big fat check)... .

What is the requisite for these people and their groups to receive the "Use Your Life Award"? The description from her website is posted below. Now, tell me that is not the absolute "spot on" description of what Bill, et al. have done on behalf of the lambs?

Klaus Vollmer had suggested on another thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=34712&site=3&page=5> that Silent Lambs needs a sponsor. Well, until we can find a sponsor, maybe some recognition, publicity, and cashola from Oprah will hold over the operations/expenses/aiding of the silenced lambs. Therefore, would you please visit the link below and fill out the quick form, NOMINATING Silent Lambs/Bowens/Andersons, et al. to be awarded Oprah's "Use Your Life Award." (I did mine late yesterday).

I did finally find a thread somewhere on this forum where Bill posted the link to his webshots site, and I used that link to send to the JW who was questioning. They "critiqued" the photos and came back with the usual, "Well, it could be the windows were TINTED... the photos were taken from too far away... we can't believe what Bill Bowen says, blah blah blah."

Would You Like to Work For silentlambs?

help needed for the silentlambs organization

due to the increasing workload associated with silentlambs i am requesting assistance to help with certain aspects of the organization.

i have created the following positions which will include the listed duties.

"Organization" became so offensive because the WTS printed it about three times in every sentence of every Watchtower we ever read. (Nothing like redundancy ad nauseum ad infinitum.) Remember one of their favorite quotes from the school book, "Repetition is the Mother of Retention"? Well, they sure ran that one into the ground! Also, it was the non-stop pressurized "allegience" to the "Organization" that I think is what turned most of our stomachs upside down (i.e., "bow down and submit to our Religious ORG or DIE!")

As far as Silent Lambs or any other non-profit charitable self-help "group" and/or "foundation" and/or "organization" using the word "organization," it doesn't bother me at all. Isn't that why the .org was created? But when the word is rammed down your throat constantly by a RELIGIOUS ORG, that's another thing entirely (to me, that is).

Reborn had some good points along these lines. If we volunteer to help Silent Lambs, we are not being promised "salvation" or endless life in a paradise earth, etc. No "pay off" attached for helping Silent Lambs except that which it should be, i.e., the joy of helping others in a very worthy cause.

Glad you mentioned "burn out," path, 'cuz I had wondered the same. Not good to keep such a stressful pace for too long at a time. The body will suffer from it, sometimes irreparably.

Also, good idea about a female spokesperson for the Silent Lambs. I vote for Heidi, since she did so WELL with Connie Chung. Not sure if any lamb would want that job full-time however. What about Barb Anderson as a the "Mother Hen" rep/spokeswoman? Wonder how she would feel about that? (Mother Hen meant in a GOOD WAY!!!!! Loving & Protective.)

So THAT explains the mystery in my family! Five brothers and they are all more on the "soft side" (like Mom), whereas me and my two sisters are more of the "hard-A**" types like our father.

And Dakota Red, about your kids saying the blessing at meals. I thought that was a great idea - teaches them how to pray in front of others. What's so bad about that? Can't believe the elder whacked you for that one. Ridiculous.

All in all, there do seem to be quite a few contradictory statements in those scriptures that I never noticed before... .

Another cable-less person here who is also Very Thankful, Trauma_Hound!!! I got to it Sunday late afternoon, and it said 1522 hits (or thereabouts). It must have been a busy time because it kept "pausing itself" while running the video, at least a dozen times in the short 10 minute interview. I am guessing that means alot of people were watching it simultaneously (??)

Loved your jazzy music and greeting at the beginning, AND the ending. That brick wall and closing message was right on!

I am so glad I got to see it. Heidi expresses herself SO WELL! I loved how she kept answering Connie's questions with, "ABSOLUTELY! ABSOLUTELY!" And Amber looks like an angel who could melt even the crusty-old heart of a GB-er (you would think!) And last but not least, was "Bill The Bull Dog* Bowen," who also spoke out with firmness, and conviction. No hesitation! None of them hesitated in any of their replies. After reading Bill's description of the chaos and stress of the setting up/late arrival/short notice for the entire thing, it's amazing to me they all appeared so calm and relaxed! Great Job Gang!

*(I saw a "tv preacher" maybe two weeks ago describe why a bull dog's nostrils are receded back up on it's face. He said it's because a bull dog CAN BITE AND KEEP BREATHING AT THE SAME TIME. Therefore, he does NOT have to "let go" of his bite in order to take a breath, but can KEEP BITING FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES. It was SOOO Funny (as the preacher "animated" how it works). The preacher used that as an example of how Christians should "take hold" of their goal and NOT let go! I would say that would apply in every way to Bill & the determination of all Silent Lambs.)

Thanks, blondie, this WAS reaaaaaally good, and a great idea for a weekly thread (if you're up to that). I thoroughly enjoyed it AND your well-placed interpretations for our humorous enlightenment. (Did you type all that out? Lotsa typing!) Makes me miss getting the Watchtowers in the mail (since they cut us off from mail delivery of the mags, I'm SOL).

Paragraph 15: "All members of that spiritual nation declares them righteous as sons..."

What caught my eye about that paragraph was the first two words, ALL MEMBERS... declare them righteous ... and perfect. NOT! When we were dubs and when we did [declare them righteous] it was only because THEY TOLD US TO, not because we thought of it ourselves. Nothing like brainwashing a group by convincing them they have declared you(GB) righteous!

Now that you mention it, when did anything THEY SAY is "so wonderful" have much bearing at the lower levels where WE sat? (no more coffee being served at the conventions). They are always just changing things for their own benefit or to save money. Reorganization at HQ, rather than a spiritual blessing or whatever, was in preparation for covering their legal butts and giving more power to the attorneys for the slam-dunk-wars that were then (and now) on the horizon.

one of my colleagues who just got kicked out of the episcopal seminary in west virginia knows that i post here and proffered this scripture to me as another piece of ammo for us.

Thanks, DO, I like that scripture. I thought of it a few weeks ago and used it at the Silent Lambs Guestbook when some of the regulars were complaining about some of the more "rowdy" posters who were "for us" (Silent Lambs) yet would get off track discussing doctrine, old WT magazines/literature, etc. with the ever-present JW-Defenders who post there. And some of the SL-regulars were upset at all the docrtinal bickering that was occuring between the two parties. It was my opinion and I wrote, "Hey, the {rowdy} posters Are For Us, so let them stay and play" (so to speak). Luke 9:49.

It also dawned on me how that scripture is another great one to prove that JWs are not the ONLY ONES doing God's will, but that other "Christian" religions obviously are too.

And your application of it to B.Bowen would apply as well. It's just more proof that there are more variety of "gifts in men" than the WTS wants to own up to, i.e., "different strokes for different folks" for the different needs of the "brethren" (and the sisters) that need to be tended to.

It would be my PLEASURE to work for Silent Lambs, though not sure I would "fit the bill" for all of the specific job descriptions it any category. (Great job, btw, breaking it down like that. That must have taken some time thinking that through). Looks like I could qualify for at least ONE of the items in all six categories. Is there a job opening for "General Mutt Assistant"? ;-)

Seriously, tomorrow I will definitely write out a formal reply via email and offer what I can do, FWIW. Better to have too many volunteers than not enough. (And, hey, Annie, why not throw your name in the hat anyway? Like you wrote, you're already doing the writing all along. An Assistant to the Assistant Writer, etc. etc.) :-)

All in all, this is great news! It means Silent Lambs is full-speed ahead! I had no idea "conventions" were in the future! I was wondering HOW you guys were keeping up with everything. Now we know! ;) HELP WANTED! VOLUNTEER NOW!

Thanks for the update, Bill. This was good helpful info. Lots of tips. I agree 100% about the focus: Silent Lambs Issues Only, and not doctrinal issues, etc. Afterall, this is a March for the LAMBS. Also I thought it was very wise to ask for the police escort first (offensive rather than defensive, which is where the WTS wants to put the Lambs). The way they acted so paranoid at your DF announcement (I read the newspaper article/it stunk! and I wrote the Sun and told them so), we can only imagine how "paranoid" the GB will be feeling with hundreds of Silent Lamb supporters showing up at their doorstep.

Nancee, good points you "edited in" also! ;-) Good idea about a poster in the car window. And as far as Greelees... I bet he's not the ONLY one. He may have "gotten caught," but I bet there's lots more where he came from...
