we had a brother move into our cong , middle aged worked as a carpenter and was an excellent tradesman, charismatic, very good speaker , hand up all the time, and had a real heart felt way about the way he spoke and answered, speaking to my elder father he came from a cong about 30 miles away and had moved into out territory, as the months passed he ended up working on various homes in the cong as he did in our place , (fitted warbrobes etc) after a while my father explained to me that he was a recovering alcoholic but hadn't touched a drop for years, after a while he was remade up to an elder, my wordly neighbour popped into my place one day and was very impressed with the quality of the carpentry work this brother had done and asked him to do a few jobs in his place in which he he obliged, so after a couple of weeks I ended up having a beer with my pal and he told me that he was very pleased with the work **** had been doing on his place and that they had gone out for a few beers! I said that I was under the impression he was a recovering alcoholic, my pal told me no chance of that not only did drink large amounts he was also seen in the local store buying bottles of whskey! I was well out of the WT by then and if I'd had told any of the elders that Brother **** had fallen off the wagon I would have been classed as a disruptive gossip !

by sizemik inlots of jw's lead a double life.

others have relatives or family still trapped .

Crazy JW urban legend
by Simon ina sure guarantee that this was bogus (really, any reasoning is required at all?
) was that it did the rounds applied to john denver, annie lennox and others.. basically, they relied on satan (oh yes) for their musical ability (i knew it) and any jws in the audience would be asked to leave because ... (drum roll) ... they blocked the signal to satan so couldn't perform with them present!.
anyone else remember that gem?.

I had it on a very reliable authority that when The Jesus and Mary Chain played a concert in London they asked all JW's in the audience to leave as they summon spirits during their gigs.

1973 "Divine Victory" International Assemblies
by Bungi Bill inhow many here attended the "divine victory" international assembly that was held 12- 16 december in christchurch, new zealand?.
the venue was lancaster park.
if the truth be known, that stadium was probably a casualty of the february 2011 earthquake?.

Letter I wrote to the person the caused me to be disfellowshipped
by jwfacts ina thread on another forum reminded me of a letter i wrote to the person that went to the elders and started the proceedings to have me disfellowshipped.
i stopped believing in the religion when i was 25 but continued going for about ten years.
i finally started to fade at 35, but about 6 months after i had stopped going to meetings, a person wrote a letter to the elders about my website, which at the time was anonymous.

First Post - Introduction
by Syme inthis is my first post on jwn, and i would like to take a few lines to introduce myself.. i currently am still in the organization, though my conviction in the last 1-2 years is more or less agnostic/atheist (closer to atheist).
i am an ex-elder and mts graduate, having served in another 3 congregations, apart from my home one.. the reason for the above-mentioned conviction shift has to do with science and rational, logical thinking generally, and with the grand theory of evolution, specifically.
it took me long, endless sessions of hard reading and study of serious scientific literature (plus cross-matching all the quotes and claims in jw evolution-related literature), to finally make the shift from utterly firm religious belief to doubt, and then to lack of religious faith.

Another problem for JW apologists
by Jeffro inthe 2013 edition of the new world translation renders 2 kings 17:1 as:.
in the 12th year of king ahaz of judah, hoshea the son of elah became king over israel in samaria; he ruled for nine years.. this is in fact a better rendering than the previous nwt, which stated:.
in the twelfth year of ahaz the king of judah, hoshea the son of elah became king in samaria over israel for nine years.. despite their improved rendering, the watch tower society still claims that hoshea's reign 'really' began in 758 bce, but that it was 'established' in the 12th year of ahaz.

by neverendingjourney ini was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

you sound very angry Judgejudy!, couple of things about myself; I'm certainly not confused my mind was made up when finding TTATT when I was still attending as an active JW 20 years ago, and in all that time I stepped into a KH once, and nor did I leave the WTS because I was desperate to be a "fornicator" I pay my taxes, insure my car, take regular medical checkups, put money into the car park ticket machine, and generally pay attention to every local bylaw/ goverment law that pops up in front of me, why is it that WT apologists like yourselves continue to make the most stupid sweeping gerneralizations?

my wife and sister perptuated the stories of my demonic possession in such a matter of fact way that there could have been no doubt whatsover that I wasn't , my wife said I used to stand over her in her sleep silently in a demonic possessed trance, I met my sister one time for lunch (in my newly found apostate stage) and she spoke about my eyes showing demonic possession!
