very active almost too hectic when I was younger in my 20's, house parties at least once or twice a month, meet ups in pubs weekly, ice skating most Sunday nights, it got to the stage when I had to put a block on it, some of the drinking in those parties was getting out of hand though, although even back then a purge had started to curtail these social events, the ice skating rink closed down, the phase of barn dances was banned as well due to one very minor incident with alcohol, when I got married it changed slightly as my ex used to like to have dinner parties with other jw couples, I couldn't stand them and would think of all number of excuses for her to try and cancel them, in the end I just said go ahead and invite who you like around I'll go out, when I faded I made very friends with a neighbour (RIP) and we would go out together a couple of times a week, when I separated and moved away my social life really did change, it became almost non existent , I did have a few girlfriends but life was really quite lonely, I dont mind my own company, I've travelled all over the world on my own, and my standpoint now is quite similar, I dont go out much, separated living on my own again.

Do you (or did you) have much of a social life as a Jehovahs Witness.
by UnshackleTheChains ini ask this question out of interest, because as a jehovahs witness for some 26 years, i have always felt that there is an 'all work, no play' culture within the organisation.
the organisation doesn't promote social gatherings.
i could count on one hand each year how many get togethers we have had.

another ex CO was Ron Bicknell, a very decent man indeed, he came off the circuit work many years ago, he was the chairman of my appeal committee, I'd never met him before but the reason he was appointed to chair it was because he knew the so called apostate I'd been associating with, I won the appeal.

you are 100% right Freddo these idiots cause more damage than they are worth, certainly my jw career was based on the behaviour of those two that I mentioned, another nail in the coffin was the request that Anthony Kendall passed on that he wished to meet with me to give some "encouragement" what do you think my answer was? Lets hope Rose is still allowed to carry on his destructiveness, its mad that they dont see the damage they cause, or maybe they are staring to realise.

that talk I referred to DS was a couple of years back and he was'nt suggesting that they do that, what he suggested was completely contradicted and refuted.

by rulehayl inhi all,i have been studying with the witnesses for more than 6 months and regularly attend both midweek & weekend meetings, and i am nearly at the end of the "bible teach" book.
my boss is adamant i attend team christmas functions.
she knows about my studying and potential baptism next year, and has suggested that i attend and just not participate in activities like kris kringle.

I got that impression as well Incognito, her language was too loaded with jw speak to be just an interested person, but still lets hope she took in some of the advice.
