i left the wts in the early 1990's and i was baptised at the same assembly as this elder and his wife in the late 1980's they were probably in their early 50's back then, you know the kind; get called on, become a study and take to life as a jw like a duck takes to water, a dream call for all jw's and we went onto to be good friends with them over the years, the book study was held in their house also, he quietly progressed up the jw ladder became an ms then elder, a few months after i started my fade i saw him one day while i waited for a bus and he acknowledged me i said hi etc and he started a verbal tirade towards me about me knowing its the truth, how close we are living to the end, how stupid i was turning my back on it etc blah blah blah, i couldn't really get a word in edge ways, i bid him good day and that was that, he really was quite angry, i never saw him again until recently over 25 years later when him and his wife and their son were having a meal in my local pub, he was standing at the bar ordering, i saw him acknowledged him said hi and he looked straight through me, he said "do i know you ?

" i replied " hey eddie its jookbeard from the ********** congregation, surely you remember me?

" he said sorry i've never seen you before in my life, his wife came over to help him with his drinks and i said "hey pat, how are you?

dont think so Scratchme, his son would have definitely known of my status and we made some small talk after the initial contact, I doubt he was practising for an acting role.

I replied " hey Eddie its Jookbeard from the ********** congregation, surely you remember me?" he said sorry I've never seen you before in my life, his wife came over to help him with his drinks and I said "hey Pat, how are you?" likewise she stared blankly at me clueless as to who I was, their son came over and he recognised me and we had a chat for a few minutes , I knew him he studied in and off for a few years and he explained he was now baptised his mum and dad had moved into my town and kind of felt embarrassed for his parents and joked about how the old memory fails as you get older etc. I kind of felt sorry for this couple caught up in the fervour of the impending millennium and how close we were meant to be to the end, all those years they invested and wasted to the extent where they are now an old couple that time has caught up with, that initial confrontation all those years back is still fresh in my memory yet this old elder cant even remember a second of it.

okay, they cheapened the product by getting rid of hardcover books.

they reduced printing of mags.

they drastically reduced the number of pieces of printed paper that members would "place" in people's hands in various ways, the biggest one being that they put them on a cart and don't encourage people to take them.they cut d.o.

tithing would be financial suicide for them seeing as they boasted for decades that one of the signs of being gods channel was that they would never tithe, a shrinking ageing membership would all but disappear in a few short years, I see more sell offs of KH's and next the big one will be the sell offs of circuit assembly halls, these schmucks know the value of these assets and they are obsessed by all things monetary, circuit ass'embles can easily be done away with, they are no better than used car salesman.

Modern replacement for make sure of all things book

you used to have the make sure of all things hold fast to what is fine book what is the modern equivalent of this book i need a book which lists the bible topics and where to actually find them in the bible can somebody give me a pointer?.

i don't remember seeing it ever really talked about here but the facebook group with the namesake of this post shut down at the end of march.

it was archived and they weren't clear as to when or if they would come back.

it seemed to come out of nowhere, and i know a lot of people were disappointed.

I removed myself from all the FB exjw pages, for some reason they just seem too toxic, over familiar and tend to bring out the worst in people, I had 2 very abusive exchanges with two exjw's over the years, I was blocked by one and received a tirade of abuse from another (both women!) FB generally is like this, and as regards to the guy called Tim Nassen and some of the trolls targeting Cedars it went well over the line, I like the slightly more anonymous feel to this forum.

it’s quite affirming to see the horrific material that they’re serving up at the convention this year.

aside from blatant homophobia, the scenes at the end of the convention that are discussed on another thread stoop to new levels of fear mongering.

it seems to occur to nobody inside the organisation that this kind of material could trigger fear, deprsssion, anxiety, stress.

Motherly Love, that "Unbreakable Bond"

my father died a couple of months ago.

he'd been ill for some time and had many health scares and heart troubles over the years but always managed to keep on going.

then one time he didn't.. i'm glad i got to know him again and spend some more time with him after so many years missed because of the wts but those years will always be lost forever.

words cant really do this terrible cruelty justice that so many of us suffer, my mum would have done the same and became more hardlined in the last few years til her death in 2015, her dying wish was that she demanded me to not be invited to her funeral.

Making contact with family

some of you may know that my parents and whole family do not have any contact with me, apart from my dad who has provided his mobile number for "family business/emergencies".

i never try to contact them anymore after a negative experience after being beaten up trying to break up a streetfight last november when i called my dad and he hung up as soon as he realised it was me crying on the other end.. .

anyway - i decided that just because they want to forget about me i don't have to be the same anymore and i wanted them to know how happy i was.

whatever happened to Crumpet ? I always remember her as one of the very first posters I interacted with when I joined here, I wonder if the issues with her family have improved?
