Being a stay home dad I'm around my daughter all the time. If anything happened to her, like death, I would probably go insane. I can barely even consider it a possibility without getting freaked out.

What is your worst fear?
by Scully ina recent death in my family triggered my worst fear - as irrational as it may sound - into a very real possibility.. let me explain: as a global culture, we simply accept that when someone dies, those who care about them will want to gather and offer a meaningful tribute to the person and those who survive them.
with regard to my recently deceased family member - her own children decided against holding a memorial service for her surviving family, which included two children and their respective spouses, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
yes, we are spread out over 2000 miles.

to waste your time seeing this peace of crap movie. I'm a comic book fan who was fairly pleased with the xmen movie and spiderman when it came to DVD (for some reason I hated it in the theatre). First, the acting was horrible. Ben Affleck needs a hydrochloric acid enema. He was amazingly bad. They turned Elektra into a total wuss. Bullseye (one of my favorite villians), was totally one dimensional and barely had a few lines in the movie. But he got to grit his teeth allot.
They spent waaay too much time on his childhood when they could've just flashed over that and had some secondary character developement. The only good thing to come of it was a new trailer for xmen 2 which looked freakin amazing. Also there was a trailer for the Hulk but that movie looks like it could go either way.

St. Valentine's day is a festival of love. It is also sacred to the as yet unborn Norse god
Vali, the archer, and to Juno Februa, the goddess of love. Girls should decorate their
pillows with five bay leaves, to dream of their lovers.

I've found in my short travels that people who think not speaking English is disrespectful are just embarrassed at their own ignorance.

Stinky?
by Francois inobviously i'm back from my general initiation and orientation into grandpappyhood.
although things are kinda hazy due to all the excitement, i do remember charges and speculations of some very dubious nature attributed to me prior to my taking off for the other side of the state (georgia).
most of these charges were made by semi-, or ill-informed people who were mere bystanders to the central misunderstanding which - i'm afraid - was between you and i.. i certainly don't like having the pall of the haze of misunderstanding continuing to be associated with me after being on this board for so long and that in general a very positive presence, and i'd like to respond to whatever dangling strings there are, and i feel sure there are some.

Well it is time to share my opinion on this whole subject.
And that's all I have to say about that.

I didn't work for close to 18 months when my wife and I were first married. Women and Men have different pressures. Men are expected and raised to be assertive, in control, make logical descisions, and make the right descisions. This is a hold over from an older time when a man could get a job and support an entire family. Those days are long gone but the lessons are still taught. When things start to go bad he may have the energy to fight back but eventually it wears him down. I was gung ho to get a job but after about 2 months I was too depressed to bother. I finally was forced to get a job with the threat of divorce from my wife. Once I was working again I was much happier (this is really sad because it is obvious we are conditioned in this manner).
It is frustrating for the woman because she was conditioned for different types of roles. Guys will come on here and act enlightened (myself included) but even the priviledge of patriarchal society requires us to fill expected roles. I did know from an early age that there is no way in hell I would marry a woman who didn't have a college degree or at least a job. Yet, I expected my wife to make those concessions for me. I thank the Goddess that she did because now I'm much stronger. Despite all of my ramblings I don't really have any advice. I hope things turn out well for you.

Who Loves Terry Brooks' Books?
by Banshee ini am a huge fan of books by the author terry brooks.
i have almost every book he has written.
anybody else a big fan of his?
-
gsx1138
I love Terry Brooks. I think the Shanara series is superior to The Lord of the Rings series. Yeah, I know that is blasephamy but the pacing is much better. Too bad there will probably never be a Shanara movie. I think it would be much more interesting than any of the LOTR movies.

Nice one Sidd. I believe even Buddha taught not to put too much weight on words even his. I think he knew that words could be twisted to suit the interpreter. I think there is ample evidence that Siddhartha (sp) actually lived but I think the stories about him are symbolisms and metaphores.
